Timranbarger Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Hi. I'm new to the site and I just wanted to know before I buy a-10. What PC will run this game out of the box? I have about $1500 to spend on a new pc.
Faelwolf Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 I would recommend starting by looking at the recommended (not minimum) requirements for the game, then exceeding them as best your budget will allow. CPU speed and memory are bigger issues than the video card, you don't need to lay out huge bucks for the latest and greatest V-Card, and that is a very easy item to upgrade later anyway.
PeterP Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 BTW and this might help to get a idea about if your system is sufficient: Basic DCS-World install is free - and you can fly the SU-25T for free!
joey45 Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 A good CPU sandy bridge i72500k no less then 8 gigs of RAM A GTX 580 or AMD equivalent . The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. Vlerkies Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 To add to Joey45's post ATI dual gpu's like the 6990 dont work so well, I have one and its forced to run on 1 card only, so go for the best single gpu card you can afford. Loki_ Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 A good CPU sandy bridge i72500k no less then 8 gigs of RAM A GTX 580 or AMD equivalent . The 2500k is an i5, just dont want the poor guy to go looking for the i7 version of it lol. Generally, the only difference between i5 and i7 is hyperthreading which is not used in many applications and small (100hz) bumps in factory clock rates. I agree the 2500k is a great CPU, and an excellent overclocker. If you are not interested in overclocking i'd recommend the i5 3570 (without k). For your video card i'd agree with this poster that GTX580 or better is the way to go. SLI is not worth your time, especially if you play multiple games. Most hardware websites recommend picking the best single gpu card you can afford, I would agree. I got the gtx680 and love it, in DCS my frames usually stay locked at 60 but can drop to 30/40 in heavy smoke or close to ground combat. Also when purchasing your video card, the amount of VRAM on the card should IMO be no less than 2gb if you plan to play in 1920x1080. I've seen my card normally consume 2.3-2.4gb vram at that resolution on a single monitor. tl;dr CPU: i5 2500k (if overclocking) i5 3570 (if not) Mobo: z68 or z77 respectively, look for best reviews. RAM: 8gb+ ddr3 1600 (no need for higher mhz) GPU: Nvidia (raedon's have anomolies in dcs) GTX 580 or GTX670/680 2gb+ Joystick: CH Fighterstick or Thrustmaster HOTAS warthog (discontinued?) AND Samsung 830 series 256gb SSD for your OS, DCS, and a few of your favorite games. 1
thisisentchris87 Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 My build is in my sig. I paid around $1500 for it and its smooth enough for me. If you can I would try and jump for a GTX 580, it'll certainly help. Sierra99 Posted December 25, 2012 Posted December 25, 2012 Hi. I'm new to the site and I just wanted to know before I buy a-10. What PC will run this game out of the box? I have about $1500 to spend on a new pc. Check out this article from Maximum PC http://www.maximumpc.com/article/features/blueprints_maximum_pc_recommended_builds_-_june_2012 They do a good job of explaining what parts they used and what you can substitute based on budget. Personally, I think you get far more bang for the buck by building your own machine vs. buying one. Maximum PC covers the how to also. http://www.maximumpc.com/article/features/build_it_how_build_kick-ass_ivy_bridge_gaming_pc_step_step Sierra [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Primary Computer ASUS Z390-P, i7-9700K CPU @ 5.0Ghz, 32GB Patriot Viper Steel DDR4 @ 3200Mhz, ZOTAC GeForce 1070 Ti AMP Extreme, Samsung 970 EVO M.2 NVMe drives (1Tb & 500 Gb), Windows 10 Professional, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS, Thrustmaster Warthog Stick, Thrustmaster Cougar Throttle, Cougar MFDs x3, Saitek Combat Rudder Pedals and TrackIR 5. -={TAC}=-DCS Server Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD3, i7-3770K CPU @ 3.90GHz, 32GB G.SKILL Ripjaws DDR3 @ 1600Mhz, ZOTAC GeForce® GTX 970.

You are going to pay a huge premium for that brand - and its not even alienware anymore. Its a label on a dell product, which im sure you know. If you are dead set on paying for a premium brand check out digital storm. The hardest part about building it yourself is correctly applying the thermal paste, which there are dozens of videos on youtube to cover. It all snaps together like legos man, and you'll get so much more bang for your buck.
