Dear DCS users,

Sooner or later I will need a new computer for DCS and other flight sims. I am not much of a computer expert, so I want to start from the following setup I put together on the Dell website (it costs about $2500, which is obviously a "little" high).

PROCESSOR 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-3820 (10M Cache, Overclocked up to 4.1 GHz)

OPERATING SYSTEM Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64Bit, English

MEMORY 16GB (4 X 4GB) Quad Channel DDR3 at 1600MHz

VIDEO CARD 4GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 690

HARD DRIVE 500GB SS Hybrid MAIN + 1TB 7200RPM Storage

WIRELESS & BLUETOOTH 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 EDR USB Combo Adapter

OPTICAL DRIVE Single Drive: 24X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) w/double layer write capability

Sooner or later I would like to run three monitors. Can you please make suggestions how to optimize my choices. Which ones are too much/too little for what I will likely need.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.:helpsmilie:

The only thing I can add is ...in my case I don't buy off the self computer's I found a computer outlet small enough and big enough to suit my personal needs..since 1992 I have been going there and every computer I get is built to my spec's by the store staff with their added opinion on what to get or not..I find personal built computer's tend to run alittle better and smoother but that's my opinion..good luck...and open your wallet wide...:music_whistling:

PS: Next Summer I am gonna build and real gamer system starting with the I7 and a 4gig video card..going to the limit...

Two things I can comment:

1. don't get dual GPU video card, save yourself some money and best performing single GPU video card (reason is DCS doesn't really benefit from dual GPU config)

2. Get yourself some SDD for OS and Programs/DCS, it'll reduce loading times a lot. (EDIT: Disregard this one - just noticed you are getting Hybrid SSD/HDD)

rest looks good

@air wolf

I will be opening my wallet wide, only problem: no matter how wide I open it, I can only find a couple of bucks in it:(

@kuky

If I run a single video card, can I still connect 3 monitors to it?

Given my hardware config, is Dell a good place to buy it from, or can I save a couple of bucks when I go with a different company. Maybe giving endorsements for companies is against forum rules, in which case maybe you can give me alternate companies/websites I could have a look at.

I think you can connect 3 monitors on latest nVidia video cards but wait till someone who has one confirm it, as for AMD cards you can definitely connect 3, on some cards even 4 or 6 (HD7970 stock you can connect 4, on some ASUS brand even 6 - check for port connectivity on the card)

Also don't buy from Dell, if they build you a PC they always use shitty cases and PSU and makes it very hard to do any upgrades later. Best pick a regular PC shop (that sells good stuff, not just cheap crap) and pick a case a PSU and either let them put it together for you, or if you know or have some friends put it together yourself.

I just build an i7/7970 system and can run three 1080 screens at 3240x1920 on high settings with great frame rates.

I know it's not for everyone... but I highly recommend building your own. I spent $950 on mine and it is comparable to the one you described. :)

You could use the extra money for three very nice monitors :) (I already had the monitors and only needed the actual tower)

PS: Message me with any questions, because I may not check this thread again.
