Kuky Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 I need to know one thing... did you eliminate stretching on side panels when using single viewport? And what FoV did you use? frank Posted December 26, 2012 Author Posted December 26, 2012 I did not do anything to the FOV - just setup 3 viewport Left, Center, Right Working well - right ;) http://www.dcscockpit.com
Kuky Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Don't judge the FPS when you are up high... start some Su-25T missions that are in DCS World and check how your FPS are while on airport... if that is satisfactory then you are good. :) PS: That is one HUGE screen! :D (actually 3 of them) PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
frank Posted December 26, 2012 Author Posted December 26, 2012 Anywhere in DCS i can see the FPS ?? http://www.dcscockpit.com

metalnwood Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Frank, re the Xeon, I dont think thats the answer for gaming. They were made to have higher on board cache which made them better for some computing and were favorites in enterprise servers but DCS just requires raw clock cycles to do things. an ivy i5 or i7 should easily be clocked to 4.5ghz and then you are in the territory where you can start to get acceptable frame rates on multi screen. I would have said stay away from th2go but your application for using it with the mfd's seems to be a good one I use an asus dc2 7970 with 6 outputs and have used five of them - 3xviews, 1xhelios and 1x CDU screen. It can help that you arrange your screens in windows so that they take the smallest footprint in terms of total pixels E.g. if you had 6000x1000 already and added another monitor then you should add it to the end so that the new total is 8000x1000 or 8MP rather than arrange it at the bottom so you had 8000x2000 total area which is what you would have to tell DCS and does impact frames from my experience.
frank Posted December 26, 2012 Author Posted December 26, 2012 (edited) Point taken - thanks BTW, 6 display - you use DISPLAYPORT SPILTTER?? About Helios, do you run it on same PC ? Edited December 26, 2012 by frank http://www.dcscockpit.com
metalnwood Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Frank, I do run helios on the same computer without issue. I have only heard of one other person running it on another PC. Most run it on the same one. In my testing I am losing 2-3 FPS when helios is turned on. I am using this card with onboard 4 display ports and two dvi ports, 6 in total on the board. http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/AMD_Series/HD7970DC2T3GD5/
frank Posted December 26, 2012 Author Posted December 26, 2012 (edited) Ok, i got it, it's only when HELIOS is on top of the DCS window i have the problem.... I'll upgrade to this board INSTANT, Then everything is perfect ;) 3.5" CDU attachec Edited April 29, 2013 by frank http://www.dcscockpit.com
metalnwood Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 Yes, the small lcd is nice for the CDU. I have a 4" lcd I use for mine. Way cool to have one :) If you are using helios and that slows you down then you probably have the option set to turn off Aero! Go to the options in dcs world and there is the option to disable Aero. You do NOT want to disable it when running helios. Make sure it is not ticked and things will be good.
BHawthorne Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 okay.... Just a idea... can i set the FOV in single Center view to 180dg ?? I suggest no greater than 120 degree FOV per camera. Any more and you get the typical odd triplehead distortion effect on the sides.
frank Posted December 27, 2012 Author Posted December 27, 2012 (edited) MetalnWood !!!! On your 7970 (mine is first arrive at 16 of January).... can you set EyeFinity on 3 port like 3x 1600x1200 and 1 port 1x 1920x1080 1 port 1x 800x600 1 port 1x 640x480 Please let me know ;) My Plan is..... 3 projector with 1600x1200 for OTW 1 Monitor 1920x1080 for HELIO (witch is working fine after your tip) 1 monitor 800x600 for my HUD 1 monitor 640x480 for CDU Frank Edited December 27, 2012 by frank http://www.dcscockpit.com
frank Posted December 27, 2012 Author Posted December 27, 2012 COOL Now we are talking.... a new PIT project is born... and finished before summer ;) All the best Frank http://www.dcscockpit.com
Sierra99 Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Ok Guys ;) So if i want to give my self a new system (dont look at price) What is the optimal config in the hardware to give me the best performance ...and HELIOS on a second PC is still an option... /Frank Go here: http://www.maximumpc.com/article/features/build_pc_blueprints_november_2012 Check out the 3rd system. Personally, I've never spent over about 50.00 on a case and there are a few places I'd save some money. Go big on CPU, Motherboard, RAM and video card. 1TB is plenty of storage for gaming rig but for sure get SSD drive for system files. BHawthorne Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 3 camera + panel doesn't look bad. 36 fps is bearable.
frank Posted December 27, 2012 Author Posted December 27, 2012 Hi BHawhorne This is smooth running.... What type projector do you use ?? /Frank http://www.dcscockpit.com
BHawthorne Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Hi BHawhorne This is smooth running.... What type projector do you use ?? /Frank Three Optoma GT720. They're the older version of what Flim just bought for his setup. I've been using them pretty consistently in my gaming setup since 2010.
frank Posted December 28, 2012 Author Posted December 28, 2012 My curved screen has a diameter of 5m.... and yours ?? does it give you full HD in the sim ? http://www.dcscockpit.com
Kuky Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Screendump off the current system 36 FPS 180dg view Keep in mind this is without cockpit view and no larger size districts in view... go near airport and you'll see around 15fps at best. I think you should judge performance by starting Su-25T mission and check your FPS while you are on runway end. That'll give you good indicator of what to expect as low FPS By the way, do you plan on flying without cockpit view? PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
frank Posted December 28, 2012 Author Posted December 28, 2012 Yes i fly without cockpit view as i build the sim and agree to the Airport - and no, i do not need to try with SU as i fly A10c and need the best setup with this mashine ;) Oh, and this is without overclocking and all the tune stuff, so it still looking promising as there is more opportunities for increase performance /Frank http://www.dcscockpit.com
Kuky Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Reason I say try the Su-25T mission as they all have around 15-20 stationary aircraft on the base so it'll give good indication what you can expect with few units around and on the base, flying over almost empty terrain is not good indicator of performance you can get in game (unless you use low scenery) and sure, you can do the same in A-10C also :) PC specs: Windows 11 Home | Asus TUF Gaming B850-Plus WiFi | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D + LC 360 AIO | MSI RTX 5090 LC 360 AIO | 55" Samsung Odyssey Gen 2 | 64GB PC5-48000 DDR5 | 1TB M2 SSD for OS | 2TB M2 SSD for DCS | NZXT C1000 Gold ATX 3.1 1000W | TM Cougar Throttle, Floor Mounted MongoosT-50 Grip on TM Cougar board, MFG Crosswind, Track IR
frank Posted December 28, 2012 Author Posted December 28, 2012 will try play around with this tonight ;) http://www.dcscockpit.com
Manuel Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 And if you really want to test your performance... try some clusterbombs in F6 view. I heard a lot of people with decent set ups got 5-7 fps dia show. Best luck with your built!
