trooph Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Well this keeps bothering me. I asked about which CPU to choose just to get my performance better... I usually run at around 25-50 fps with DCSW depends if im near AO. Sometimes when i zoom in quicly i get a hickup...and that made me think... Is it my CPU MOBO or GFX causing all this stuff. Those are my system specs: AMD Phenom x4 965 BE @ 3,6 ( i had some stability issues recently with 3,9) ASUS M4A77TD Sapphire HD7850 2gb (not OC) 8GB 1333 CL9 ram Western digital 500gb 7200rpm HDD I just would like to have fun without major issues untill i upgrade my rig... Any comments appriciated. T.
PeterP Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 >>> What is my bottleneck? Before any one answers your question (lots of info is missing to decide...) - there is a very simple test to see if your CPU is the bottleneck , - and so you can decide if you will benefit from a new GPU. Run a track that is recorded in a campaign mission with a lots of battle going on. Do this first on your normal setting with your system is in the exact same configuration (monitors/exports...) - and than do it with all graphic settings are turned to low. - If you have a better overall average FPS at the seconded run,...you can benefit from a GPU upgrade. If the average (not the max!) is staying the similar/same - you should think about a CPU upgrade first - because a better GPU will only help you to turn on more GFX options on like HDR/AA... but it will not higher your FPS while the CPU is struggling with the calculations for the ongoing battle. (that's why I call DCS a "framed" simulation) If you running Multi monitors in a windowed configuration and want to have a boost for "free" :SoftTH NEWS This will make it possible to run DCS in full-screen and even have Helios visible at your secondary screens. more than 1GB V-ram helps if you run on very high resolutions/have more than one View-ports and/or more than one monitors. - if you only want to run 1 monitor in 1650x1080 - 1GB is sufficient.
SkateZilla Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 I'd go with a Complete Mobo/CPU/RAM upgrade. 4+1 Phase VRMs on a Budget board wont get you any further. Windows 10 Pro, Ryzen 2700X @ 4.6Ghz, 32GB DDR4-3200 GSkill (F4-3200C16D-16GTZR x2), ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate, XFX RX6800XT Merc 310 (RX-68XTALFD9) 3x ASUS VS248HP + Oculus HMD, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS + MFDs

danilop Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I'd go with a Complete Mobo/CPU/RAM upgrade. +1
trooph Posted January 4, 2013 Author Posted January 4, 2013 Cheers lads. So when get those components i can save cash for ssd instead of buying new GPU :) Thats good news. I was thinking about I5 with some sabertooth mobo +8gb atleast 1600mghz ramz. Unfortunately i wont have that much cash so i would have to stick to cl9 maybe 8 ram cubes. I did some CPU OC recently. Increased this and that but with my cheep ass mobo i cant get any further than 3.8 with NB 2.2k any further than that and my vcore jumps over 1.5v which shouldnt happen with that 965 BE;/ ANyways thanks for ur comments im really glad u answered my question. Also im even more convinced to upgrade my pc ASAP. Maybe with iminent Haswell release Sandy and Ivy bridge will go down on price a bit. Maybe than i'll get i7 :D Have a good night guys! Cheers T.
