How to play a sound when a given frequency is tuned?

Hi !

First, i think it was question about a bug atm in radio transmission.

This awesome feature worked fine when they released BS2 (or DCSW?). i made some posts about it with a picture.

For your specific question, if this function works (can't test it atm), ME and, i'm pretty sure scripts, can't monitor when you switch frequencies. That means the file will be played immediately.

Imho, your only option is the "other" radio menu. you can set a trigger via this tool, and, maybe ask the player to pre-call the tower. A response will give a new frequency, then start chatting with a reasonable delay on the desired frequency. Maybe add important notes if you want to force the player to switch his frequency.

A large monitored trigger zone around the airport could do the trick too.

What do you think?

Mais ce fut un plaisir d'aider, Cyclic Redundancy Check (Aka CrC ;) )!

EvilB, yes, you're right, it's working, even in Frequency Modulation mode.

As i said, i never experienced a bug with this yet, but didn't tested it everyday too.

But, hey, did you hired Siri for this sound file ? :D

Edit : In fact, Evilboy made available arguments list for Ka50 too.

OOook, it works indeed....most of the time. Thanks EvilBivol-1.

Added two ATIS messages in my mission (one in Anapa, one in Gelendzhik). Starting from Anapa, I can hear 5/5 the local ATIS, and 2/5 the Gelendzhik ATIS with 15W power setting for the latter. Pretty cool.

I added Rostov control with a large 55km radius centered on my navigation between Anapa and Gelen with 50 then 100 then 150W power, but I could get only static sound from the frequency set whatever the power setting. Strangely enough, Rostov with its 150W of power and zone centered halfway to Gelendzhik was 0/5 but I could still hear Gelendzhik ATIS from ANAPA with 15W power. So not so sure how this works. Anyway, Removed Rostov.

Then I tried to add some other frequencies on Anapa airport like the TWR, with another message, but all the radio transmissions stopped working. Tried different zones, different power settings. Nothing.

So I sticked with just the two ATIS messages and it seems to work. Tried also in MP with 2 aircraft. Worked for the two aircraft.

Erforce, for the ATIS message I used this AT&T voice synthetizer demo since it allows you yo download the file in .wav format. I then converted the files into .ogg with very low quality settings to simulate the usually poor quality you can hear on aero VHF.

It sounds like you are experiencing line of sight limiations, especially if you are testing at ground level. Did you try it at altitude, so you are well above of the hills in the area?

I'm not sure why adding more messages to other frequences would cause a problem. If you like, you can attach the mission here and I can take a look at it.

Yes, you are probably right for the line of sight.

I tried to make two miz files for you. One with the ATIS on Anapa 125.4 and one with ATIS and TWR on 125.4 and 119.8 and got mixed results. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. One mission with ATIS only: OK. Added a trigger for TWR: NOK. Removed the TWR: still NOK . Reloaded the .ogg file in the ATIS trigger: worked again. So I am a bit at loss now. Doesn't look like something systematic. Let me know if adding several radio transmissions on an airport is working for you.

I leave the two missions files, in case my .ogg files are simply in a wrong format?

Luckily enough for my tomorrow's MP mission, I finaly got a real ATC controller to join and play the Anapa and Gelendzhik TWR through teamspeak/TARS. So I am happy enough with just my working ATIS messages.

did a bit more testing with a friend. It only works in multiplayer if the client is in the mission before mission start. E.G if they join after "start" no dice. Bug?

Seems to work fine using the Radio Transmission trigger for me using the current public World version. Maybe your issue was that by default the trigger sets FM mode, while the radio in the cockpit is set to AM. Or maybe the audio file format was incompatible. Example mission attached.

FM navigation works only for HOST in MP :(

Anyone having issues getting the ATIS to function on a dedicated server?

Guys in our wing have it working when they host the flight, but it doesn't work on our dedicated server.

I also had issues getting this working. I added a triggered action in the transmitting unit to change to the desired freq (even though in its properties I had set it to the correct freq). Every time I triggered it to play a sound, I also triggered it to change to the desired freq. This made it work properly.

I’m new to this aspect of dcs world but couldn’t you set a flag for the freq to me null then when they tune to your freq have the flag set to true then have a trigger check for a true flag then set a time more than condition then play the sound file as your action ie

Continuous trigger event flag true

Time more 30 condition

Play sound action
