Sorry... just felt the need to eulogize. :)

I generally never fly online as I'm not a particularly social person, but I figured I'd give it a go last night. I jumped into the 104th's server, spooled her up and then headed out towards the first steerpoint.

En route, I was blown away by the landscape and the lighting. I recently overclocked my PC, allowing me to run everything at the highest detail levels and it's absolutely stunning. Just cruising the rolling, undulating landscape in NOE profile was a wonderful experience... but I had a job to do.

The targets at the first and second steerpoints had all been devastated, so I set the PVI-800 and ABRIS for the third and headed out into increasingly mountainous terrain. As I approached the steerpoint, I suddenly received a "Warning! Under Attack!" message from the ALMAZ system. I dived to the left and started kicking out flares, at which point I got a team message from another Ka-50 pilot ("Custom", I think his callsign was) saying "LOL! Buddy-laze! Sorry!".

Thanking my lucky stars, I joined up with Custom and we began carefully working our way into a good firing position. This took about 10-15 minutes, but we eventually got to a nice elevated vantage point where the massed opposing forces couldn't reach us. I then began scouring the area with my Shkval and identifying targets before settling on a semi-hidden Shilka...

...at which point I was horrified and embarrassed to discover that I'd left the FARP with NO WEAPONS WHATSOEVER!

Custom fired off his weapons while I watched and then we headed back to the FARP to rearm and refuel. Once we were done, we headed out again. This was probably my favourite part of the entire session. I took up a position off his right winglet and flew perfect tight formation through the hills and valleys at about 200kts. It was an AMAZING experience. SOOOO intense, but so rewarding.

We eventually made it back to the target area and spent about 20 minutes carefully and systematically exchanging datalink targets and taking out air defences. The coordinated strike was just perfect and managed to completely clear the area.

By then, it was starting to get dark, but we pushed on for the final target area, high in the snow-capped mountains. Custom eventually got taken out by an Sa-13 when he pushed his luck a little too far, but I managed to take out about 8 air defence targets in the dying light.

Once I was out of Vikhrs, I headed home. I didn't have NVGs and I was starting to get concerned about how dark it was.

It took me about 15 minutes to get back to FARP and JUST as I was about to land, there was a sudden roar and an F-15C blasted past my right side, scaring the hell out of me. Why he didn't shoot me down, I have no idea, but he high-tailed out of the area with a couple of SAMs from the FARP racing after him.

I then returned to landing... the pinnacle of a perfect evening... when the game froze and I got "Connection Interrupted".

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!:megalol:

Anyway, the TL;DR version of this is that Black Shark is just an absolutely amazing experience. So much richness. So much depth. So much fun.

Thank you so much, ED! :pilotfly:

- Learn to fly low with instruments only and YOU will become a flying master !

- That's why i'm concerned about the future of BlackShark.

When flying Falcon, not a single enemy chopper survived in south korea while i was airborne. Usually, you start sending CAS chopper when you have Air Superiority. In DCS, it's not the case. Fighters can take off while taxiing within 1mn, miserably crash or playing around without fear to die.

I've played online a couple times, it was kinda fun, until Opposing Fighters players played "dumb", trying to scare you passing 1m from your shark, or over your airport..... This reminds me arcade gameplay should not be mixed with simulation gameplay.

I'm pretty sure the fun could be extreme with a good limited supplies (crafts and missiles), and when they have to wait 30mn before having a chance to be cleared to take-off, like in F4AF++

otherwise, you're right, Ka-50 is an exceptionnal simulation, which has a bright future ahead. (Well, EDGE will decide somehow)

I only miss some teammates to play online. But AI makes me laugh quite often (when they are not bugged ;)...)

my words dude!!

most missions online are about teamvteam-FC3arcadelike-killemall stuff. 10 player in f-15 just flying around for a fastkill against 3 shark pilots who trying to make mission objectives

im not judging the players, dont ge tme wrong, simple i dont like that missions; :helpsmilie:

a-10 with bs, coop missions from dragon that was alot of fun!!

but simple throwing all modules together will not work.

i just think on upcoming huey and mig21.

we simple need more creative content

Yeah, or a different solution would be to select an airbase a little further away. 30 min is a little harsh :)

Absolutely (Watari).

Even if an old Fighter Jet would become very cool anyway (like a A-10/Ka50 sim module for Mig21, SU24 or so), mixing Simulations together is extremely fun.

I don't think A-10 and Ka-50 should fly on the same side. I wish missions will be really more balanced when you'll have UH-1 for blue side, and Mig21 (or DCS SU25T) for red side.

Roob, if you played F4 without controlling the Ground War (like CA commander), your campaign could last 30+ days, with limited supply.

You have to take this in consideration, if you fail your CAS, the whole company could die, stopping your progression. You can't conquer yourself.

If you die, you basically remove 1x F16 from the pool, plus its beloved Aim120C / Aim9X. that's 1 less for your CAP, BDA, Deep Strike etc...

The fact is, when your have an arcade mode game, you don't care if you expend all your missiles in a row, flying low, Afterburning all way long to hit Mach2 because you don't have to RTB anyway. Aligning the INS, which takes 20mn, will force you to think : Damn, if i loose this ship, i will regret it.

For the story, when i (almost) cheated in iron fortress, i took a F15E at night, loaded to teeths with BSU-49 Durandal. I flown low around the coast, to china. Bombed their runways, and escaped interceptors on my tail while RTB. This was a lot of fun, A lot more than flying a F-22 at angel 60 and overshooting every advanced MIG/SU incoming to south Korea (they had not a chance to hit me)

That kind of fun, i can have it in a Ka-50. hide, strike, run... that's why i love this sim.

My only hope, that the warehouse implentation will do its jobs and no one will set it to infinite supplies.

Nice post. I love this SIM as well, I have yet to try MP, but I am eventually going to find a squad that flies regular KA-50 coop missions.

I bought BS1 when I learned about it and flew offline for a while (not too much Ive to say) years ago.

Yesterday I decided to purchase the update and try it out with DCSW and I've to say I really like it now. It is quite fun flying missions online with all the other guys flying their F15s or SU27s for the other say.

I feel like a sitting duck and Im getting the thrill of playing hide and seek.

So far my balance for my first day of DCSW: BS2 is something like 2 HMMVs destroyed versus a dozen times shot down :D

Im definitely a better fixed-wing pilot...
