SUBS17 Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 For 1.2 is it possible to remove the client altogether? And instead select a mission making all flyables for that mission accessible for online play. If theres no online player then it could be replaced by a random or fixed AI unit. I believe it would be easy to set this up and worth while to all players. Also maybe an Airfield selection option would be cool as well.(a step in the direction of a DC) [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
Maverick-90 Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 do you mean: every plane that's not used by a client should be set as AI?
Floyd Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 IIRC the client-player concept is coded deeply in the sim and could not be changed. Flanker has this concept as well - i have not the best thoughts for the guy who thought that out at a time where online play was pretty exotic.
WhiskeyRomeo Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 If theres no online player then it could be replaced by a random or fixed AI unit. Would that mean no Player could enter your game after you Start the mission? I can't say Im in favor of THAT unless a late arriving player could bump one of the AIs and get the aircraft of his choice.
SUBS17 Posted November 29, 2005 Author Posted November 29, 2005 No, players could join at time but this change would allow players to work together to win campaigns . [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
Gazehound Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 Well I dont think gettting rid of the client thing completely is such a good thing - you need to be able to set server missions up without ai interfering. But it would be nice to have some sort of AI 'stand in' to make up numbers in an online coop mission (if there are less than X players present). VVS504 Red Hammers
SUBS17 Posted November 30, 2005 Author Posted November 30, 2005 Thats what exists in AF and its quite effective as you are in a strike package and another player wishes to join then they can select one of the other AI flights and fly straight away whats more if the flight is flying, ingress or taking off makes no difference. So for Tank Killers, we select our side red or blue, then aircraft type and runway(ok so each side must have territory of its own and there must be a difinite border between them). Then we select Squadron and flight package by default you are aircraft number 1 unless the player selects a different flight position. 1 [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
