jime Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 (edited) I bought A-10C on Steam and couldn't get it to launch, I uninstalled and downloaded it from DCS and still can't get it to go. I set my options and as soon as I try to train I get the DCS stopped responding error. I checked the forums and tried a couple of "fixes" to no avail. I uninstalled DCS World and re-installed without the A-10C and couldn't get that to run either. It gets past the loading screen and let's me make my set-up choices but as soon as I want to do something, be it train or just learn about the plane, it crashes again. I tried with/without my controller(Thrustmaster Top Gun HOTAS) plugged in with the same results. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit w/ 8gb of ram. GPU is GTX 560Ti 1gb. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jim E. Edited February 7, 2013 by jime
MaceUK Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 I had a similar problem a while ago http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1505656#post1505656 . For me it was a steering wheel that was causing it to crash so I would suggest you unplug everything that you dont need to fly. jime Posted February 7, 2013 Author Posted February 7, 2013 I un-installed DCS and installed it in the default directory. I previously tried to put it on a separate HD. I still don't get anything when I press tutorial but it did fly when I pressed instant action. It crashed when I had my controller plugged in so I tried it without and like I said, it worked when I tried instant action. I flew around for a few minutes with no problems. I haven't loaded A-10 Warthog yet because it still doesn't work with my controller plugged in and using a keyboard is not my idea of a flight sim.:joystick: Any further help would be appreciated. Jim E.
Sarge55 Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 jime, What CPU do you have? DCS is very dependant on the CPU. Also, do you have software installed for the Top Gun HOTAS? If so try uninstalling it and just have the drivers installed. Then program the HOTAS in game. Just enough to test fly and see if that makes a difference. Might be the software, just a thought. Quirkitized Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Are you removing your DCS saved games folder? Sounds like there is some conflicts with it trying to load settings. Saved games folder holds all your control input and other settings. For a full clean install, try: - Uninstall DCS World - Delete the dcs world folder if there is anything remaining to make sure - Delete saved games folder (c:\users\username\saved games\dcs) - Install dcs world, install c++ (it's included with the install iirc, or the a10c install cant remember which) - install a10c module
MaceUK Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 So you have no other USB devices plugged in at all? I've un-installed the drivers for the HOTAS and re-installed them, no difference. As soon as I hit instant action tab, it starts to load then it crashes. I was able to run instant action with it un-plugged and it ran very good. I tried the tutorial taband it didn't do anything. It just sat there. Yes, I un-installed the DCS saved games under user. I appreciate your help, guys. Jim E
jime Posted February 8, 2013 Author Posted February 8, 2013 Okay, I un-installed the HOTAS drivers and started DCS. As soon as I pressed the controls tab I got the "stopped responding" error and closed the sim. I un-plugged the HOTAS and turned on DCS, then I pressed instant action and was able to fly without it crashing. It sucked using the keyboard though. So now that I know it's the joystick that's causing my woes, I need to figure out how to remedy the situation. If anyone knows how, I'd appreciate some help. Jim E
PhoenixBvo Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Looking at the Thrustmaster support page for the Top Gun USB, I suspect that the drivers are not fully compatible with Windows 7. You might try using the controller without drivers installed. jime Posted February 8, 2013 Author Posted February 8, 2013 I tried it without the drivers installed, I got the same results, a no go. I find it hard to believe that Thrustmaster hasn't updated the drivers for this particular product of theirs, a product that's still being sold. One set says it's for Windows 7, which is the set I use. I have no problems using the joystick in FSX, as a matter of fact, it works great in FSX. I know, it's an older sim. I've searched for newer/updated drivers but keep getting referred to their website that has the older drivers they say is for Vista/Windows 7. I usually use my Saitek Cessna flight yoke/throttle quadrant but I don't think it's be appropriate for the A-10C. So yeah, I tried it the way you suggested with no drivers. No luck :( Jim E.
