Teapot Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 (edited) And again, I never wrote I want an infantry simulation. Please read my posts... The ability to go prone' is a crude simulation of what infantry do. Obviously I did 'read' your post but maybe because this is the Internet and it's a fairly fluid and open discussion ... and I don't have access to the inner most recesses of your brain ... it is just marginally possible that the discussion might stray a little from any restrictions presumed by you :D. Please loosen up. Edited February 24, 2013 by Teapot "A true 'sandbox flight sim' requires hi-fidelity flyable non-combat utility/support aircraft." Wishlist Terrains - Bigger maps Wishlist Modules - A variety of utility aircraft to better reflect the support role. E.g. Flying the Hornet ... big yawn ... flying a Caribou on a beer run to Singapore? Count me in. Extracting a Recon Patrol from a hastily prepared landing strip at a random 6 figure grid reference? Now yer talking!
MasterZelgadis Posted February 24, 2013 Author Posted February 24, 2013 The ability to go prone' is a crude simulation of what infantry do. M249 soldier in the sim already goes prone. Don't know if they do when just halting or when enemies are nearby. So again, no big deal to "simulate" ;) "Sieh nur, wie majestätisch du durch die Luft segelst. Wie ein Adler. shagrat Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Wow! This thread is derailing into a fight about DCS:ARMA IV or what? I thought MasterZelgadis asked for a tiny spice up in variety in foot soldiers and maybe some more moves/stances for the troops. Nobody asked for a full blown infantry module, a complete AI overhaul or hundreds of different "Special Forces" types. I do like the idea to get some additional foot soldiers! Especially I'm interested in civilians to force people to plan and think before bombing everything into oblivion. Some different countries camo textures for the existing troops models would also be nice. About the use of these "useless" AI Soldiers let's just say I played through a lot(!) of missions where special forces, extraction teams, road side ambush by foot insurgents, MANPAD on roof tops, mortar spotters played a key role, rather than the T-80 and BMP-3 battalions rolling over the fields... much more immersing, needed good spotting skills, resembling current scenarios in Iraq or Afghanistan rather than the 80ies "Cold War gone hot" scenarios. What I don't realise is, why are some people so opposed to get "better" infantry? Sh...ng your pants 'cause they might be a threat to your fast jets? I don't think so. Let's face it: With CA ground war gets a place in DCS and I have never even heard of a war that was not fought with troops, whatever sophisticated Tanks were involved. At the end it's all down to the grunts, to hold and stabilize an area. 1 Shagrat - Flying Sims since 1984 - Win 11 | Ryzen 9 7900X3D | 64GB | GeForce RTX 4090 - Asus VG34VQL1B | TrackIR5 | Simshaker & Jetseat | VPForce Rhino Base & VIRPIL T50 CM2 Stick on 200mm curved extension | VIRPIL T50 CM2 Throttle | VPC Rotor TCS Plus/Apache64 Grip | MFG Crosswind Rudder Pedals | WW Top Gun MIP | a hand made AHCP | 2x Elgato StreamDeck (Buttons galore)
Ripcord Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 If the Huey is really and truly on the way, then we do need some improvements in our AI infrantry -- both in terms of stance, appearance/texture, and to some extent, in terms of function. They need to be able to perform a few more tasks than just run, or stand there and shoot. Key among those will be get in/get out of helicopters, as well as paratroopers. Doesn't mean we need a full-on FP shooter grade infrantry combat sim, just that we DO need to extend the boundaries a bit. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
MasterZelgadis Posted February 25, 2013 Author Posted February 25, 2013 Thanks, apparently at least some people who understand what I intended here "Sieh nur, wie majestätisch du durch die Luft segelst. Wie ein Adler. Ein fetter Adler." http://www.space-view.net
