mue Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Have you ever thought to make the screen touchable. With only a webcam and an IR illuminator I made my rear projection screen touchable. It costs me 40 EUR. The software is free. See this thread.
zahry Posted February 24, 2013 Author Posted February 24, 2013 mate - that's awesome! love that idea - I was fiddling with kinect but this is far better
Mnemonic Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 This is lovely! How much did it cost to build such setup?

zahry Posted February 24, 2013 Author Posted February 24, 2013 I can do walkaround - unfortunately I've just discovered single gtx580 can do only one projector (need my ATI HD7970 back). will post some vids gaming once the other icarus will arrive to australia or once the card arrives back. I'm making these kits (construction, screen, mirrors, projector holders) for 1750 usd - here is the pic of the box before shipping.
nrgized Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Do more then just a walk around pls. Show the stability of the rig, shake it because in all the pics it looks weak. Particularly it looks front heavy. Show the insides with the cover off. I wanna see the mirrors and everything. Anything else to help sell 2k worth of someone's money.

Just uploading the video - it's just a quick walkthrough - I gave it a push in the middle couple of times to show it doesn't tip over easy and it shows what's holding it in place and stable. The construction was calculated so all the weight goes into the legs (same physics as a crane) and everything is locked in a place so if you give it a push it doesn't move much (mirrors are staying locked in place relative to the screen at all times but if you need to readjust it you can)
Wolf Rider Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Well done and excellent approach, I've always believed in curved screens such as you've demonstrated here. How, though, do you deal with the screen wrinkling (or is it shadowing) I noticed towards the very end of your 'tube? zahry Posted February 25, 2013 Author Posted February 25, 2013 this screen has been trashed by couriers (they drove over it when it was rolled up) so I'm using it for my testing purposes - it has seen better days, that's for sure. I'm going to be testing some new screens soon so I can take more photos and better video
zahry Posted February 28, 2013 Author Posted February 28, 2013 (edited) here is detail of the raw image and the center of overlap area (I've also changed the screen for brand new - so there are no folds or creases Edited February 28, 2013 by zahry
