mjeh Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 How does the bug rate in maneuverability (as related to combat maneuvering, dogfighting) compared to other contemporary fighters? I'm finding it hard to find credible sources
Kenan Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 It's supposed to be very manouverable at low speeds.. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Commanding Officer of: 2nd Company 1st financial guard battalion "Mrcine" See our squads here and our . Croatian radio chat for DCS World
LordWolf Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 so it's most manouvarable at 0,7 mach which is about 450 knots, pretymuch same as f16, but most of it's turning rate is better at lower speed compared to other aircrafts. f18 isn't ment to dogfight 2
mjeh Posted February 27, 2013 Author Posted February 27, 2013 E model turns better than C, that is quite surprising. Thanks for posting this!
Maior Posted February 27, 2013 Posted February 27, 2013 Well, if it is a low energy dogfight, it may be used for that. High AoA means you can pretty much pont your nose anywhere. i for one am really looking forward to see the bug on DCS.
mjeh Posted February 28, 2013 Author Posted February 28, 2013 Oh don't get me wrong, thoroughly looking forward to it! :) Was just wondering how it compares to other fighters in terms of maneuverability.
Dudikoff Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 E model turns better than C, that is quite surprising. Thanks for posting this! Those are charts for loaded aircraft for a fixed mission radius - since E carries more internal fuel, it only has one drop tank, compared to the three on the C. i386DX40@42 MHz w/i387 CP, 4 MB RAM (8*512 kB), Trident 8900C 1 MB w/16-bit RAMDAC ISA, Quantum 340 MB UDMA33, SB 16, DOS 6.22 w/QEMM + Win3.11CE, Quickshot 1btn 2axis, Numpad as hat. 2 FPH on a good day, 1 FPH avg. DISCLAIMER: My posts are still absolutely useless. Just finding excuses not to learn the F-14 (HB's Swansong?). Annoyed by my posts? Please consider donating. Once the target sum is reached, I'll be off to somewhere nice I promise not to post from. I'd buy that for a dollar!
Pyroflash Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 The bug also bleeds energy like a mug in those high rate turns. It is also prone to the falling leaf syndrome. If you aim for the sky, you will never hit the ground.
aaron886 Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 The bug also bleeds energy like a mug in those high rate turns. It is also prone to the falling leaf syndrome. No, when departed it often exhibits the falling leaf MODE. It is, by all accounts, extremely departure resistant.
Pyroflash Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 No, when departed it often exhibits the falling leaf MODE. It is, by all accounts, extremely departure resistant. That is supposed to happen? Please elaborate, I would like to know more. If you aim for the sky, you will never hit the ground.
