I've just updated my DCS world to Version 1.2.3 and I am unable to stay in a field for more than 5 minutes and mostly cannot join other peoples fields at all.

I either get an immediate "Connection Interrupted" as soon as I select a field to join or I can get in there with no problems ( Good FPS and Steady connection ), but shortly after, DCS Crash's to desktop and stops responding.

I have tried to join about 10 fields today and only got into 2. 1 of the fields seemed fine, but had a hero in it that would shoot me before I could even get the Ka-50 started.

So I tried joining 3 other fields that showed me an immediate "Connection Interrupted".

I finally joined 1 field that had a ping of 74, and all I got to do was take off, fly about 4km's away and as soon as I started to fire the cannon....Boom! Crashed to desktop and offered to send a message to Microsoft, at this point I was unable to send the message off as DCS kept taking Posesion of the screen and not allowing me to click the "Send Error Report" button.

The only way I could close DCS World, was to End Process on the error message which immediately closed DCS World.

ON the fields that give me an immediate "Connection Interrupted", does that mean I have been banned from those fields or what ? I dont see why I should be banned as I have hardly ever flown online long enough to annoy anyone.???

I used to get "Connection Interrupted " occasionally on fields with a ping higher than 250, but now I am getting them so frequently it is really starting to boil my blood.

Can anyone please shed some light on this for me, so that I can find out what the hell is causing it and put an end to it please ?

I am unsure of how to represent the problem I am having, so if anyone has a suggestion of how I can get this problem looked at I would be very grateful.

I have not bothered to post a ticket on this problem as I have about 4 outstanding tickets from 5 months ago that no one is interested in answering. I have tried several times to update the tickets, but so far, I am the only one working on them.

I understand ED is extremely busy at the moment and don't expect an immediate response. But I would have expected something in 5 months. :(

P.S.

Although I had been looking for a previous thread that may explain this, I did not find one at first. But I just found one that suggests to make sure your connection speed is set to "LAN".

This is an option I selected Loooong ago and have not changed it since. So in the above information was all under the connection speed of LAN.

Hi SkateZilla, to be honest I am not sure of how many were running 1.2.2 in comparison to 1.2.3. But I did note that out of the ten fields I tried to join, some of them were 1.2.3 and some I assume were 1.2.2. I did see a couple that had 1.2.2 and 1.2.3 on them, but my success at joining any of them was about the same.

I believe that the one I did get to fly in for about 5 minutes was a 1.2.3 field.

I guess its just gonna be "Back to SP for me" until I can sort this out. If I dont get it sorted out, its no great loss to the MP community. :(

I can't get enough of the missions made by the people who host online, but I fly to relax. And these constant "Connection Interrupted" issue's just wind me up. :(

1.2.2 servers don't show up in the 1.2.3 server browser.

I wondered about that too sobek, but I did see 1.2.2 at the end of the name of a couple of the hosted fields.

At the time, I did wonder if that meant that they were using Version 1.2.2 or if the mission that was being hosted, was created in 1.2.2. :( ?

I'm pretty sure that it was the latter.

Did you ever have a look at your RAM usage at the time the sim crashed? How much RAM do you have installed?

Thanks for all your replies fella's :)

Did you by chance use the auto updater, or re install using the updated installers? I am inclined to say try a fresh re install by deleting all of the old folders and installing fresh. Are you running any mods?

I used the Auto Updater to update my DCS World, I was really hoping to avoid a fresh re-install as i have had to do that a few times so far. :(

And I am not running any mod's. I used to when I was flying DCS BlackShark 1, but after having issue's with that too ( on my old PC ), I got annoyed with having to chase up all of the mods I had used, re-install them, only to suffer issue's with the program after adding several mods in a row.

After that point I vowed that I would not touch Mod's again as I barely have the time available to learn to fly these aircraft, let alone spend hours trying to track down what I have mucked up this time. I figured if I install the program the way the Developers intended, I would not keep having my program mucked up, requiring massive amounts of backing up and re-installing.

My DCS World Remains un-Modded. I know people like the mod's, but I don't. I figure if they are that good, the Developers will adopt those mod's as normal running conditions. If not, then I am not missing what i don't know about. :(

Still No luck ....

Oh well, I tried the updater repair and nothing has changed.

I did recieve a PM that I have been banned from some fields even though I have barely spent any time online. Apparently I have made some mistakes when I have been online and instead of trying to let me know that I was making a mistake, I was just banned.

I think for everyone's benefit, I'll just stay offline. The update is awesome in SP mode and I suffer no isssues and do not get banned for simple mistakes.

Thanks for all your help everyone. It appears that my problem is solved as long as I stay offline. I really enjoyed the amazing missions on there, but it is what it is :(

Its been brought to my attention that most of my "Connection Interrupted" issue's may well be that I am banned from those fields.

As I have a high ping here in Australia, I try to limit myself to servers with a ping less than 225 so that I don't spoil everyone else's fun with buckets of lag.

This gives me a grand total of the top 4 servers I can join.

In the last few days I have found that I have been banned from server's online without so much as 1 word spoken to me.

I just wanted to say that I appologize to all concerned if I caused any problems in your server. What ever I did was not intentional and I was unaware at the time I was doing anything wrong.

Had I have realized, I would have ceased Immediately. All it would have taken was for it to be brought to my attention. I said a bad word today in a mission and the Host banned me, and sent me a message to make it clear. Giving me the opportunity to appologize directly for my 1 time bad word. 1 time in more than 4 years.

I try to follow the mission breifing to the best of my ability and not ruin anyone else's enjoyment of it. I NEVER EVER knowingly Blue on blue, I always try to make sure I am not taking someone else's kill. But somehow I have managed to offend people with my actions.

For that, I am sorry. If I knew what I had done wrong, I would be directly appologizing to each person for each individual thing I did wrong.

But I have not been given the opportunity.

Other than that, I can not account for any online imrovements here, The only fields under 225 that I could join have banned me without explanation. And I am not going to find out what its like above 225 and spoil everyone else's enjoyment.

So I might just stay offline to save causing any further aggravation. I thought I was doing the right thing when online, but obviously I've rubbed people up the wrong way.

That was not my intention. All I wanted was to share and enjoy these amazing simulations.

Anyway, I just wanted to let everyone know, that If I have annoyed you at all, in any way, I appologise sincerely. I did not mean to anger anyone or spoil anyone's enjoyment online.

I just made mistakes. :(

Thanks flybynoob, but I think until I know what I am doing wrong, I am just better off staying away from the whole lot. Last thing I want to do is annoy another host without knowing what i did wrong.

I can't get enough of MP, but I'm not going to force myself into anyone field.

I have hosted fields on other Simulators that were open to anyone and I understand that some people just don't get the rules no matter how simple you make them.

I never thought I was one of them. :(

You shouldn't be taking this personally. A lot of online game sites may have a limit to how high your ping can be for certain servers. You are probably not annoying anyone. The servers admin may just have it set up so a high ping automatically gets bumped and banned. As to explaining it to you, well that's up to the server admin.

Thank you snafup for your reply.

Most of the sessions I try to join in the last few days have had a ping value of less than 180. Some as low as 74. Unless the Host is looking for Local Hosting only, I can not see a reason to set a ping value as low as under 180 or even 74.

I understand being bumped if my ping value reach's too high a number for you to remain in the session, but that usually produce's Dialogue box that basically tells you that your Ping got too high, doesn't it ? And if that happens, I don't expect an explanation.

But if you welcome me into your field, let me fly for 10 minutes, then without a shot being fired by me, kick me out and I am never able to join again ( even a week later ) I think that is a bit rough.

Especially when a brief "Hey! What are you doing Toad ? " would have stopped anything I was doing immediately.

I don't think in these case's, it is a connection error. if it is , then great. But if not, then I am clueless as to what is going on.

If I recall correctly, servers with passwords on them will immediately pop up a "Connection Interrupted" error. Also, when servers crash and/or end unexpectedly sometimes DCS will crash to desktop (at least it has for me in the past).

Perhaps it isn't a matter of being banned it is a matter of trying to join password protected servers and/or joining a multiplayer game and then having the host exit to add a password to a game that he didn't realize was not passworded to begin with?

I usually host games to play with my friends and just don't feel the need to allow random people I don't know into my games... so I password my games. If someone tries to join and forgets to enter the password or enters the incorrect one, they see a Connection Interrupted but I don't get any indication on my end that anyone is trying to join.

I'm sure being in Australia limits your choices significantly, but are you sure you aren't trying to join password protected servers?

Most of the servers running SLMod have a max ping boot, if you exceed that ping you are booted, or if your already higher than the ping amount, it will refuse connection.

The higher your ping, the more unstable your connection gets.

1-75 is Excellent

75-150 is good

150-200 is okay, but treading into unstable.

200+ forget it, every game will boot you, DCS, BF3, MoH.. Everything.

The thing is, not only do you lag and have issues, but one person with a extremely bad ping, can bring the whole room down.

So if you join an empty server with a 200ms ping, your connection is unstable, and the first packet lost due to line quality between you and the server will result in your Connection being interrupted.

Hi Psyrixx.

I am absolutely certain I am not trying to join Password protected sessions. The sessions that have a little "*" next to them indicate they are password protected.

I do not know what happens when you try to join one. I have never been given a password for a session, so see no need to try and join in case.

I am also certain that the session I was trying to join, was not accidentally started without a password being applied and the host shutting it down to then apply the password.

The sessions I have gotten the message "Connection Interrupted" on, have remained without password after my exit, and no amount of Restarting DCS, My PC or rebooting my modem, changes the "Connection Interrupted" status.

I have had 1 host come forward and ask if I had tried joining their session which is hosted from just a few hours by car from me. They assured me that there is nothing I am doing that should get me booted from their server and have checked their bootlist, without finding my name.

But it was one of the sessions I tried joining today, that gave me the immediate "Connection Interrupted " message.

I have tried Repairing my DCS World and found no difference in my ability to join. If it means a fresh install.....then I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

I guess this is just gonna be another one of those Brilliant programs I can't live without, but because the majority of users are on the other side of the planet, I'll only ever get to experience a small fraction of what other take for granted every day :(

Maybe a port / firewall issue? Check if you forwarded the ports which are used for dcs. 23...something.

Hi Skatezilla.

I am very mindful of the Ping to a session I try to join. I understand that one bad connection can spoil the whole thing. Thats what I meant about not being able to check my connection on sessions above 225. I know that as soon as I enter, it drags the whole session down and it may not even recover after I leave.

Hence the reason I stated that I can only join about 4 sessions. I don't want to spoil anyone else's fun.

When trying to join MP, the server will look like this.

1st in then list will show 74-125

2nd in the list will show 130-160

3rd in the list will show 180-225.

I am lucky if I can join most days and that is why I was so bummed today. In the few sessions I was actually able to join, I get no warning about high ping value, but instead, without warning BANG! Straight back to the server list and a message saying connection interruted. The ping is still low enough for me to join ( like one session today at 74 ) but I get an immediate "Connection Interrupted ".

I have been flying on DCS MP for about 4 years now and am well aware of how the high ping values can affect everyone's connection.

Anyway, Its seems to me, that the best thing that can happen right now is that I just back away from MP.

Not only because of the issues today, but because as addicted to MP as I am, it is just one big disapointment that I will only ever be able to enjoy a fraction of it.

Thanks for all your help and advice everyone.

if you're in Australia trying to connect to any US Server or Canadian server, 99% of the time you'll get a connection interrupted or time out before you even connect.

Distance to server + Ping.

I've been on a few servers, that seem to be running off DSL or some low spec connection, 1 or 2 players will have a decent ping, as soon as the 3rd and more pilots join, everyone's connection and ping take a dump.

Those server problem are amplified with distance to client,

You can start out with a 70ms ping, but once it starts sending/receiving more data, that ping will jump quickly.

I agree 100%. That's why I feel it is best for me to just back away from MP and be done with it.

There's no point in me chasing a better connection when its just not gonna happen at this distance. I'm disapointed that I even tried it because now, none of the pathetic little mission I have made for myself match up to MP.

And the SP experience is not even a patch on the fantastic experience you get online.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE DCS in every form. But its just not the same when you can't share the fun you and others are having.

Until the Missus agree's to move closer to the server, I am just gonna have to pretend MP doesn't exist. I dont see her changing her mind any time soon. :(

OH well. Such is life.

Thanks everyone for putting up with my lag and I am sorry to have brought it with me.

Knock a few bogies down for me next time you all go online. ;)

I have been hoping and praying for just such a thing since I bought LOMAC back in about 2006. Unfortunately, it seems like all the coolest stuff is made overseas and so very little of it can be used online here.

I'll check back each new major update, but without some major change in net transmissions, I'm not too likely to have a great deal of success.

In the last 4 years, I have only ever been able to join the top few sessions and no more. Sometimes not even that.

I've never really wanted to live somewhere other than Australia, but I have to say, when it comes to awsome-ness like DCS, its a real kick where it hurts to live here. :(
