Probably been asked before....I searched but didn't see anything specific.

On a recent mission, I run out of ordinance and am left with guns. I switch to GUNs master mode and have the (doesn't matter) gun cross or the pipper.

The problem I have is when I place the pipper on the SPI, the SPI gets masked. I need to see the SPI, not hide it. Is this normal?

Thanks in advance!

It gets masked so you can see the target better rather than having a square in the way. There's a way you can turn it off but I can't remember it now.

Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing

Thanks Jona33 for the quick reply. so it's supposed to be like that...problem is in this case, it's near dark and even zooming in, target is hard to see...the night vision doesn't help either...too much light at dusk? thanks!!!!

The feature jona is talking about is called gun cross occult. It applies only to the TVV and not the SPI. And no you can't unmask the SPI from under the cross. Oh, and just SYK, the cross is a cross, if it's without numbers it's the 4,000 ft slant cross, if it's with a number, it's the CCIP cross. The reticle is the big circle in any mode. The pipper is the central dot on any targeting reticle or cross. For example, the gun CCIP reticle has 2 pippers, the above armor piercing and the lower is the high explosive incendiary, that is in addition to the right and left 20 knots moving target indices, which are also PIPPERS.

addendum:

For night missions, pop an suu flare and it should light the joint for like a minute or so, more than enough to turn back and engage the target. I'll post a demo shortly. I agree that gun targeting can be difficult, specially with dark backgrounds, so I also recommend you dim the HUD display at daylight to better see underneath, and , zoom in all the way of course.

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

If you want to see your marker in the hud and line up your CCIP gun cross on it, then do this.

1. Turn IFCC to TEST

2. Use "+ and - " SEL rocker switch, go to DISPLAY MODE, hit ENTER

3. Use the SEL rocker switch to go down the menu to "CCIP GUN CROSS OCCULT"

4. Use the DATA rocker switch to change it from a Y to a N (yes to a no)

Put IFCC back to ON position. Now use CCIP and the gun cross will not mask the SPI.

Please make sure you then use CCIP mode, not Guns mode with the ccip pipper. Just regular CCIP mode you'd use for weapon delivery, but use the gun cross.

By default, the guns mode doesn't show it so you can see what your shooting at...this method is good for longer range gun runs or low-light, but experts here can always give exact engagement methods...

Also you can adjust the gain on the night-vision so you can see better.

My test shows Gun Cross Occult set to N doesn't affect SPI, it always hidden under Gun pipper.

overpro = I'm not good at Nintendo Mario and always get "Game over" pretty fast, so over~~pro

The option only works in CCIP master mode, and only effects the CCIP gun cross in that mode.

When set to "no" the CCIP gun cross will not occlude any HUD symbology, including the SPI.

System specifications: Computer, joystick, DCS world, Beer

Will the information above fix the problem in this video:

Quick video regarding the Gun Pipper in the A-10c masking the the SPI marker. In this video I was going after a MANPAD and accuracy was crucial. Anyway to fix this?

It's not a problem, since that's the correct behavior. But yes, it's a workaround that behavior. In the video above you are using the CCIP cross, but you are in guns mode.
