idenwen Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 Hello pilots and mission makers, I played around with the mission builder for a while now and ask me (and you): Has anyone managed to create some kind of "persistand world" for DCS:World (Black Shark)? With "persistand" I mean some kind of endless campaign from a specific base (Sotchi Adler for example) where ressource management is importand (can I spare 12 more vikhr or keep them until next convoy arrives with supplies?) Like a convoy with ammunition / NPC pilots (wingman/flying missions themselves/...) comes every X missions and inbetween you have to defend FARPs / Base & attack different targets / locations etc. Allied units arrive also every X missions and roll against the enemy. Any idea if it's possible? Since location / status / waypoints / task of every unit has to be transferred between missions, stockpile on the airport / FARP also. Lots of scripting I think.
mwd2 Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 what you want is a DC...... Playing: DCS World Intel i7-13700KF, 64GB DDR5 @5600MHz, RTX 4080 ZOTAC Trinity, WIN 11 64Bit Prof. Squadron "Serious Uglies" / Discord-Server: https://discord.gg/2WccwBh Ghost0815
shagrat Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 Lots of scripting, but in general it should be possible... only problem is that "action" usually is triggered by "once" trigger commands. That would be no option here. With the new triggers to "run script" etc. may be a switched condition with Flags can randomize and repeat tasks to a certain degree... Just a thought, though. I'm not the typical LUA scripting specialist. Anybody from the scripting faction may think about that idea? mwd2 Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 i think, the main problem is the export of the status quo, after you have left the server/mission Playing: DCS World Intel i7-13700KF, 64GB DDR5 @5600MHz, RTX 4080 ZOTAC Trinity, WIN 11 64Bit Prof. Squadron "Serious Uglies" / Discord-Server: https://discord.gg/2WccwBh Ghost0815
shagrat Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 i think, the main problem is the export of the status quo, after you have left the server/mission I thought more of an online server that will generate missions for ever, as long as it is not rebooted. Using a pool of scripts that circumvent the "once" triggers may work here... A dynamic campaign is not possible yet unless you may export status and import/read them for the next mission. Only the campaign mode with the stages is an option at the moment...:( Shagrat - Flying Sims since 1984 - Win 10 | i5 10600K@4.1GHz | 64GB | GeForce RTX 3090 - Asus VG34VQL1B | TrackIR5 | Simshaker & Jetseat | VPForce Rhino Base & VIRPIL T50 CM2 Stick on 200mm curved extension | VIRPIL T50 CM2 Throttle | VPC Rotor TCS Plus/Apache64 Grip | MFG Crosswind Rudder Pedals | WW Top Gun MIP | a hand made AHCP | 2x Elgato StreamDeck (Buttons galore)
Grimes Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 Yes it is possible to an extent, but it is a ton of work and not all aspects of it are possible yet. idenwen Posted April 1, 2013 Author Posted April 1, 2013 Yes it is possible to an extent, but it is a ton of work and not all aspects of it are possible yet. To bad but thanks for the answer. Would really love such a scenario...
Oznerol256 Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 As far as i know the main limitation of generating tasks is that its impossible to add a unit. All you can do is activate a hidden unit. This means all possible units have to be added in the mission editor. You cant just spawn new units while the mission is running. Or is the scripting engine capable of this? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
RagnarDa Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Or is the scripting engine capable of this? Im afraid not... :( DCS AJS37 HACKERMAN There will always be bugs. If everything is a priority nothing is.

dikkeduif Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 What's the limit count of units you can place on the map?
Grimes Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 The sim has no known hard limit that prevents you from adding new units to a mission. However the max number in terms of game performance is somewhere between 1000 and 3000. It depends heavily on the computer you are playing on, what the AI are doing, how close in proximity the AI are, how big the groups are, etc. The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. msalama Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 IL-2 had some good dynamic campaign (online war) engines back in the day. I just wish someone took up porting one to DCS :music_whistling: Thought about doing it myself, but no way - this would be a huge project and I'm awfully rusty as it comes to programming / SW engineering. And I'm not even sure it'd be wise to attempt a portover because of the amount of customization work required (at least a new parser outputting LUA, a total DB reconstruction plus a bunch of scripts all in need of an overhaul) instead of starting from scratch... The DCS Mi-8MTV2. The best aviational BBW experience you could ever dream of.
BeachAV8R Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 I always felt playing the dynamic campaign "game" was actually handled better by EECH than Falcon 4 oddly enough. In EECH I felt more like a big fish in a small pond (able to more have an influence on the overall war). I realize that isn't as realistic, but it was a lot more fun to play. Too bad EECH didn't have better ground unit movement. BeachAV8R
scottt Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 I don't have any of the DCS modules (although I did have the original Black shark) The only thing that has kept me from buying them is the lack of a Dynamic campaign...
