Dafiew Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 Any way of completely disabling trees? Since they don't provide any advantages I might as well get rid of them ;) Tried the graphic.cfg file but that didn't do anything when I put the values to 0  Simflyin' since 1985 :smartass:

Dafiew Posted March 31, 2013 Author Posted March 31, 2013 Didn't work I still got trees :( Simflyin' since 1985 :smartass:
Nate--IRL-- Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 That doesn't make sense, you must not have deleted them all. Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading
zaelu Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 (edited) its because they are simple textures on two sided objects that probably have LOM backups besides EDM... alternatively you can look in bazar... terrain... etc (I don't have gaming PC on now) for some archives that are called: LandTexturesSummerOther LandTexturesWinterOther LandTexturesSpringOther LandTexturesAutumnOther (or is it fall?) and inside you will find the textures for trees... make a 1x1 pixel transparent dds file and copy and rename it as all the textures in there... they are not that many... 13 for summer for example (I have the folder here :P ) and then replace the originals... (make backups) I would like better looking trees and that is why I extract those from summer to see how they are made... many are 256x256 textures so from close they look bad but also the trees are too rare on the slopes... a mod that would make them denser would be great. Also... if collision are not possible (I guess because the game engine will make us hit the invisible squared margins of the texture) I think collision detection is possible and without taking any damage or would be nice to hear a sound of chopping branches and debris "whirlwinding" away. Maybe a timer like 15 seconds and you start taking damage. :) Edited April 1, 2013 by zaelu [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] I5 4670k, 32GB, GTX 1070, Thrustmaster TFRP, G940 Throttle extremely modded with Bodnar 0836X and Bu0836A, Warthog Joystick with F-18 grip, Oculus Rift S - Almost all is made from gifts from friends, the most expensive parts at least
Nate--IRL-- Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 Doh, thats it - it is using the LOM files now the EDMs are gone. Search for tree*.lom and delete them too. Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading
Dafiew Posted March 31, 2013 Author Posted March 31, 2013 Doh, thats it - it is using the LOM files now the EDMs are gone. Search for tree*.lom and delete them too. Nate There are no tree.lom files, the forests are gone which is great but I still got trees around the cities and villages... Well I think I'm going to have to cope with those xray capable AI units until EDGE is released  Really screws up the game for the Shark, I'd rather have a treeless landscape than units that can see/attack you through them! What is the path for those EDM tree files so I can put them back where they belong LOL Simflyin' since 1985 :smartass:
zaelu Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 lol... if you didn't delete them for good you can do a restore from recycle bin. I think is DCS folder... bazar... world... shapes... but I am not sure (I'm at work :) ) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] I5 4670k, 32GB, GTX 1070, Thrustmaster TFRP, G940 Throttle extremely modded with Bodnar 0836X and Bu0836A, Warthog Joystick with F-18 grip, Oculus Rift S - Almost all is made from gifts from friends, the most expensive parts at least

zaelu Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 good to know. I wonder if they can be moded... I'll try to play with some bigger textures and see what they look. Also it should be a technique that controls the density of trees... like a noise texture or something. I don't know if the trees are placed for all clients the same... if they are not like civilian traffic... random. zipdigital Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 One thing to add: As I understand it, if you use Nate's method above you might think you did not remove any trees since you would see them around an airport or town (those trees are built in to the airport's mesh), but you wouldn't have the randomized trees that pepper the landscape. So it may seen as if the trees were still there at first. Correct me if I'm wrong? "Sol" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron
Nate--IRL-- Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Correct - trees in towns are part of the town templates, not the forest templates. Nate Ka-50 AutoPilot/stabilisation system description and operation by IvanK- Essential Reading
Pinkie_Button Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Correct - trees in towns are part of the town templates, not the forest templates. Nate So I renamed all the TREE*.EDMs and no more trees in the countryside. Happy Days  As noted in the thread, there's still plenty of leafy greenery in the suburbs. Do you know if there's a way to edit these Town Templates of which you speak in order to eliminate the urban shrubbery as well..? Thanks! - PB
Fearless Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 I'm hoping for fix so that you can't drive through them. It hasn't by chance got something to do with the vulnerability setting in options? Fearless DCS: BS 2, DCS: A10C, DCS: CA, DCS-P51-D, DCS: UH-1H
