Bahger Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 I am trying to get a flight of F-15Es to strike an enemy group. In the Advanced Waypoint Orders" I have set them to "Bombing". However, can someone verify that there is no more "Attack Group" or "Attack in Zone" option available for AI ground attack aircraft, and there's no range circle for the area to be bombed? If so: If I want the group to bomb one enemy target, then another, should I set two "Bombing" commands in the Advanced Waypoint Orders menu with different targets and then expect the F-15Es to attack them in order of priority? I tried "Attack Map Object" but found that all the F-15Es did was dive from 25,000 ft and start burning insane amounts of jet fuel by flying NOE for no apparent purpose. Can anyone explain how this item works?
ENO Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Looking forward to an answer here myself- having some issues with it. I may be mistaken but I think before you have access to all the menu options you may need to make sure the bombers actually have munitions attached and aren't "empty" right after placing them. I had some issues over this in the past... I've seen search in zone then engage... engage group... etc... but I can't remember if it's in option, enroute task, perform command... Anyway, looking forward to an explanation (assuming the aircraft being empty doesn't help you solve it). "ENO" Type in anger and you will make the greatest post you will ever regret. Bahger Posted April 10, 2013 Author Posted April 10, 2013 (edited) Hey Eno, thanks for dropping by... There were no Enroute commands available for my F-15E flight. There has been some strange behavior associated with setting the "Bombing" and "Attack Map Object" commands. Sometimes they disable all access to the flight and it has to be deleted/re-placed. EDIT: Tried different starting loadouts (but I never get any "Enroute Command" options nor any search in zone then engage... engage group... etc... It appears you have to use "Bombing" or "Attack Map Object" to get an AI ground attack flight to engage anything. Can this be right? EDIT 02: Wait a minute, found it: I needed to set the Strike Eagles to a CAS mission (as opposed to Ground Attack) to get the Enroute command menu under Advanced WP Orders. Grimes Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Most of the AI tasks are filtered down by the main group task (CAS, CAP, SEAD, etc). As a result "attack group" is available for some tasks while not available for others. The filter is mostly created for use within the mission editor and giving tasks appropriate to the main task. Using the scripting engine to push mission tasks to aircraft we can assign pretty much any task type to any aircraft. So the filter is more in place for general purpose usability, although admittedly it does somewhat limit the scope of AI placed in a mission. Attack Map Object is similar to bombing in that the AI will carry out an attack on a point, the key difference is that attack map object will simply be an order to destroy the nearest world object (bridges, towns, etc) to the point specified. Bombing isn't necessarily meant for attacking ground groups. It can be used if the group is stationary or you use the scripting engine to dynamically add the task based on where enemy ground forces are at. If you want AI to attack ground forces, use the CAS task. If AI are diving and flying NOE it is likely a reaction to a sam threat. The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. Very helpful, thanks!

Phantom_Mark Posted October 31, 2014 Posted October 31, 2014 That worked for me, thanks very much indeed, my flights now attack the map targets I selected !
