Evening All

I can't write a short post. Nope, I've tried to, but it's just not in my nature. I start off all good intentions of sitting down to just a sentence or two. But then before you know it, five paragraphs are dancing before my eyes and they're laughing at me..oh yes.

So it's a bit of a pain in the neck, to find that once I wrestle enough control to be able to back away from the keyboard, the DCS Forums have logged me off!

Is there some profile setting I can change? I mean my last post only took me ten minutes and that doesn't seem too long to be logged on without causing the forum to come over all discombobulated.

At least I think it was ten minutes... I'm pretty sure it was.. sometimes it's a bit of a blur I admit.

PS: I seem to have lost a sock. I don't suppose you know where it might be?

Old habits of mine that help as well:

- When I know I'm about to post something really long, I type it in Notepad.

- I always, ALWAYS, mark and Ctrl-C any post longer than a few sentences before pressing "post". (My connection is sometimes a bit fickle, so sometimes my connection drops while I'm typing...)

Aside from that, yes, making sure that the forum is set to "remember" you (that is, you don't have to log in every time) will solve this as well.

This usually happens to me too. My advice: don't worry about it and log back in. Otherwise follow the advice of the above posts.

Check under your computer desk or behind furniture near it. That's where most of my socks end up. (This is why I really posted)

I do that too. I have lost far too many posts and things over the years to not type long stuff in notepad first.

Thanks for the advice all.

Well that advice is a bit daft if you don't mind my saying so! Clearly it's not going to be under the...... oh....... ok, well it seems it was there actually. Thanks for that then. :music_whistling:

Really? Never noticed... :megalol:

Another way to avoid disaster: the Opera browser has by far the best history management in any browser I've ever used. Say you've typed a long post and hit the "You're not logged in" message when submitting, Opera will just let you go back one step in your browsing history, with the entire form filled out just like you left it, so that you can CTRL+C the post.

This feature alone has spared me many hours of frustration. And even though I'm becoming increasingly unhappy with Opera for a number of reasons, this is one of the key features that keep me attached to it.
