Looking foreward to Mig 21 integration!

I still have the odd problem with Aries Arbourne Radio not finding my Export.lua but it seems to work! (just i can't turn the plugin off it seems without physically removing it from the TS3 plugins folder!)

If you installed the application with the normal installer, you should not have a problem. If you want to disconnect Aries radio it is recommended to use the TS3 menu Plugins/Aries Radio/Export.lua entry on/off. If TS3 does not find the C:\Users\[name]\Saved Games\DCS\Scripts\export.lua then you have an exceptional installation. Check the following

registry entry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/AriesWings (64 bit registry). There should be the variable DCSsavedGames. It contains the path to the SavedGames folder.

The default path should be C:\Users\[name]\Saved Games\DCS. If it does not match your Saved Games location, you should enter the correct path. Use caution, every modification in the registry may corrupt your computer system.

To all Aries Radio users,

I have to apologize for being inactive the last week, since a lot of people are waiting on the MIG21 mod. The reason was a serious crash of my development computer which needed external maintenance. Meanwhile I got the computer back and all works normal.

Sorry...

Best things always make us wait.

Take your time Towsim.

Thanks.

The presets out of the configurator were deactivated globally with the DCS VHF preset bug. It will be available again with the next release.

Sorry...

Since I did not find a possibility to define channel frequencies for the A10 in the ME, I tried to define the channel presets in the configurator. This would override any other definition. Unfortunately, there is a bug in DCS, which prevents the programming of presets. This even confuses the switch logic in normal use. I had not the time to check whether the bug is solved with the latest DCS version. If it is solved, the configurator defined frequencies will be set into the corresponding boxes.

Great job towsim, I have been really enjoying using Aries over the last couple of weeks.

A quick question, I cant find any footage of Aries in use so I don't know if this is a bug or not. The radio mic click sounds unusual, more like a squeek or a beep rather than the typical radio click. Is this normal, if so is this sound modifiable like the background sounds are? Thanks.

@Kaiza

You may replace the file [program location]\TeamSpeak 3 Client\plugins\AriesRadio\click.wav with a WAV file of your choice. If the original file was not damaged or exchanged accidently, I can only say, this is the click I have heard over 25 years in my tower.

Roger, many thanks! I operate mil radios by day also, (on the other end) but this is a sound that is not familiar to me. Perhaps a difference in equipment types.

Thanks again for your work.

P.S. Would be awesome to have the KY58 cypher tone too!

@Kaiza

If you have a description or an example, it would be welcome. Especially the KY58 is a mystery. The current functionality in Aries Radio bases on the DCS flight manual only.

Found some audio that should be of use. Have sent via PM.

Cheers

Have to tread with caution, but I got you some unclassified infos about the tone: http://books.google.fr/books?id=hHg-AAAAYAAJ&pg=PA42

The tone itself you could probably find in some YouTube videos, but its very similar to this: http://www.thelonegamers.com/2013/06/29/military-style-radio-beeps-for-teamspeak-and-ventrilo/

Now as far as simulating the tone, I believe, as a user, that these would suffice:

- background static then cypher tone after 25ms from PTT for talker, indicating proper key entry;

- cypher tone straight up to recipients on said key

- cypher tone then scrambled loud static when key is wrong or not entered.

@Kaiza and Dusty

Thank you for this valuable information. I will implement it as soon as possible. It will not come with the next update because the version is already under Test for release. But the version after.

Another question would be: Is a non encrypted transmission audible while the KA58 is set to an encryption mode for the given frequency band?

@paulrkiii

The switch logic was repaired today. It was a LUA issue. One of the DCS function returned a imprecise number. For confirmation, the DCS flight manual says UHF encryption for crad 1, VHF encryption for crad 3 and no encryption for crad 2. Your advice says VHF FM encryption for crad 1 and UHF encryption for crad 3. Is that correct ?

Nope. Unless you're crazy enough to remove the squelch, in which case I'm not sure.

Concerning the beep I may have the exact one, I'll PM you when I'm sure.

Per the A-10C-1 yes what I sent you is correct.

You sure Paul? The A-10C -1 I have (02AP12) states C/RAD1 for UHF, C/RAD2 for VHF/FM:

Page 1-321:

f. C/RAD switch - C/RAD 2-(FM) NON525 or C/RAD

1-(UHF) (corresponding light will come on).

I dont believe a C/RAD 3 setting even exists.

Anyway- towsim if you go down the path of cipher for FM it would be fantastic to give that capability to JTACs also. :)

At the moment I evaluate the information I got. Once the sound for the different situations are in place, I will implement it. For JTAC operations I have to modify the radio panel. Since there is no space in the GUI at the moment, I have to rework the design. But that should not be that difficult.
