Vintovka Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 (edited) I cannot recommend this stick enough for DCS huey. I was lucky enough to pick one up used on Ebay for 50 dollars and it came to me in what appears to be absolutely perfect shape. Before trying to fly the Huey with my Logitech 3d extreme pro I was having all the issues everyone is complaining about. It is literally a night and day difference for myself. I can smoothly and easily control the helicopter through its various flight transitions. I HIGHLY recommend this stick it has literally changed the sim for me completely. I really hope this upcoming "improved" flight model doesn't change the sim to be easier due to "flight issues" people are supposedly having. Another thing to consider was my old Logitech 3D stick would cause inputs due to dirty or worn out pots inside the stick (twitchiness etc.). This was noticeable by just removing my hand off of the stick and the in game cyclic and pedals would move. This could very well be part of the issues people are having with the sim's "twitchiness". PeterP Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 (edited) You are 100% right about the FFB and stick! ( but not about the thread title >I hope the FM doesn't change < as I and others see some things that needs some retouch ) But do you know what is two times better than one MSSFFB2 ?! Sorry to show off once again... The answer: Two MS FFB2 with Cougar Grip Edited May 17, 2013 by PeterP
Vintovka Posted May 12, 2013 Author Posted May 12, 2013 Hey PeterP I have seen that crazy stick. Too intimidated to try that build for now but maybe in the future for sure.
MoGas Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 I totally agree, I use the MSFFB2 for the Huey or CLOD, I dont have the Pony, would be the right stick too.
Mt5_Roie Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 So I've been using a Logitech 3D Pro and am finally getting decent with it. But your right, if you let go of it, it makes some odd movements. Transistions have also been a bit tough, but I was getting better. So based on this thread, I went to ebay and ordered one this morning. So I'm looking forward to finally improving my flights to make them look a little smoother. Coder - Oculus Rift Guy - Court Jester
Para_Bellum Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 I have both the MSFF2 and the TM Warthog. The MSFF2 lends itself a bit better to fly a helicopter due to lesser stick resistance but I have no problems with the Warthog either. I usually play with the Warthog though because I just love the feel of the stick.
Mt5_Roie Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Vintovka, Do you use the force feedback setting? Can you also post your control settings so I can look at them for when my joystick arrives? Coder - Oculus Rift Guy - Court Jester
PeterP Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Options -> Misc. tab -> Check 'Force Feedback Enabled' Options -> Special tab -> UH-1H -> Un-check 'Central Position Trimmer Mode' Options -> Controls tab -> 1. Highlight the SideWinder row 2. Click FF Tune 3. Check Swap Axis for X and Y DCS-World 1.2.4 has the option to swap each axis individually -the screen shot is taken pre 1.2.3- you want to swap both for the MSSFFB2. Curves and dead-zones: Never use curves and dead-zones on the FFB axis - leave it linear. (at least in a Force-trim Helicopter) Using a curve will mess up the proper behaviour of your stick, as the FFB is calibrated to the full range of the axis movement and smaller or shifting the axis read out will bring in a asynchrony in the stick movment to the reported position. .

Vintovka Posted May 13, 2013 Author Posted May 13, 2013 Sorry for not responding earlier but PeterP is the man when it comes to the FFB2. Thats exactly as my stick is I basically plugged it in, started DCS world, and chose "swap axis" as PeterP outlined. Thats it and it flys perfectly. No curves or deadzones and I believe default saturation is 100 on each axis. Keybinds are already set as well. Button 3 is trim and button 2 is for weapons release. Thats all I use personally.
Grenadey Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 If only Logitech had reverse engineered the FFB mechanism for the G940..... Toad, Shark, Huey and Mi-8 driver. 27" iMac 3.4Ghz i7, 16GB DDR3, 2GB 680MX . Logitech G940 (modded), 2 x crappy Dell 1024x768 monitors for ShKval, ABRIS etc. TrackIR 3, Trackclip Pro.
ArtMan_NL Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 I have the msffb2 as well but for me it is still impossible to hoover that bird steady. It is waayyyyy to sensitive. How you guys manage that? I studied the hoover lessons very carefully but still I can't manage hovering. :(
Vintovka Posted May 13, 2013 Author Posted May 13, 2013 I'm not sure all I can say is practice practice practice. I don't feel the over sensitivity that everyone speaks of. I have played many different flight sims though over the years including the most popular helicopter ones. You just learn to anticipate and "feel" the aircraft. I can't even describe it. I dont even think about it anymore it just happens and I feel this only comes from practice. I wish I could offer some better constructive criticism but the big secret is just practice.

ArtMan_NL Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Thanks guys, yesterday it was a little bit better. I'm thinking about extending the grip. I have an thrust master Cougar with a FCC3 mod. Thats even worse to fly with...
Mt5_Roie Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 So my sidewinder just came in today. TRying to get used to her. Is there any way to have the grip be a little tighter...seems like she's way to easy to move around. Coder - Oculus Rift Guy - Court Jester
Mt5_Roie Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 She's plugged in alright. Seems if I have it trimmed all the way forward then I get some pressure pulling back on her. It's a lot different then any other joystick I"ve used. Coder - Oculus Rift Guy - Court Jester
easy Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Yeah, me too I'm VERY GLAD to still have my sidewinder since about 1999, when I started simulating with the marvelous Jane's FA/18 (best sim ever besides DCS, of course).....The stick feels great with this stunning Huey. A hell of a difference to the Warthog HOTAS. Such sensitive trimming. But I'd also want to extend the grip to a more realistic length. Anybody any idea how to and how long? To make it tighter, maybe try changing the trim force, otherwise I don't know. War is much too serious a thing to be left to military men. Charles Maurice de Talleyrand

easy Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 (edited) No, I did not. Viewed your video as well. Just don't dare to open my sidewinder to make the stick longer without a detailed 'how to'.... Yours look great - must be quite close to the real feel. Edited May 17, 2013 by easy War is much too serious a thing to be left to military men. Charles Maurice de Talleyrand

easy Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 Oh PeterP, now you made me see. Thank you! Wow. Thats the way it goes, will check that out. Indeed it must be the ultimate combo to combine the sidewinder ffb with the warthog grip. :joystick: :joystick: War is much too serious a thing to be left to military men. Cnuke Posted May 17, 2013 Posted May 17, 2013 I have received my ms ffb2 and I really have to get used to it ! I think I got mine in perfect condition , no wear and the FF is strong. I have read about swapping axis , and I have tried the little programs (simffb) to have force on the stick, but it cancels the (shaking force from p51). I tried bs1, bs2 (current dcs ) p51 and a10c. It will take a little time to understand what is suppose to be good and natural. But it is very exciting so far. You should understand that I have flown with the left hand thumb on a 360 controller and wasn't doing so bad :D Thats history now ^^
