porky_pig Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 Im looking to use something similar to an Ipad "WITHOUT" having to resort to buying an Ipad or any crapple related component. Guess you can say what I really want to do is export the CDU panel (and similar panel in the Ka-50) to a touch screen device like an Asus tablet. Are there any apps that can do this for this type of device? I cant nor ever will entertain the idea of spending 600-800 dollars just to export a simple screen.
pacotito Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 (edited) You could use Helios and a touchsceen monitor with your PC. I'm not sure about an android tablet but I think I read that Helios can use a second PC so if its a windows tablet it should work. Although in not sure about installing non windows store aps on a tablet. Edited May 19, 2013 by pacotito Pacotito I7-5820k@4.5 Z99 extreme4 16gb ddr4 520gb ssd. Gigabyte ssc GTX960 SSC 4gb

Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. pacotito Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 There are a few android apps that allow a tablet to be used as a second monitor. So you could go that route with Helios. Pacotito I7-5820k@4.5 Z99 extreme4 16gb ddr4 520gb ssd. Gigabyte ssc GTX960 SSC 4gb
porky_pig Posted May 20, 2013 Author Posted May 20, 2013 (edited) get an ipad and ictrl DCS for A-10C (there is a similar app for blackshark) No. The whole idea here is to NOT spend 800 bucks for something that displays a CDU only. That and Im most definitely not an apple fan. Overpriced crap. Edited May 20, 2013 by porky_pig

So any android based tablet can be used with helios? How does one link the two devices together to use in the simulator? Im trying to get an idea on how feasible it is to go to microcenter to get a cheap tablet like this here: http://microcenter.com/product/405030/Galaxy_Tab_2_Tablet_Titanium_Silver_-_Refurbished
pacotito Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 (edited) http://mashable.com/2012/11/01/tablet-second-monitor/ In theory any tablet should work as the apps above are just a way to interface with windows using the tablet as a second monitor. Are you looking for a tablet to use as a tablet as well? Or just for dcs? I've never tried with a tablet so I can't say how it would perform. Air display:http://avatron.com/apps/air-display I have absolutely no use for a tablet or likewise other than using as an output source for exporting cockpit functions, and a tablet seems to be the cheapest alternative to my problem. Otherwise, I would "probably" get an Ipad.

pacotito Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Yeah I would agree with getting a touch screen monitor as opposed to a tablet. Some can be quite pricey though. This is the highest rated one on newegg and the price is reasonable. $300usd. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824176356 Pacotito I7-5820k@4.5 Z99 extreme4 16gb ddr4 520gb ssd. chaos Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 Why don't you buy an MS Surface Pro? I bought one 2 months ago and it's great. Full Win8 OS, active digitizer pen and... USB connector! Why anyone would purchase an overpriced App-launcher is beyond me. The Surface is comparable in price to the 'top of the line' iPad yet it offers a complete pc experience. Multi monitor support out of the box... no brainer... "It's not the years, honey. It's the mileage..."

I dont have a whole lot of desk space, I might be investing in an Obutto pit soon, and something small and functional would work just fine for me. Doesnt have to be fancy, doesnt have to do anything other than be a touch input device, and wont cost me an arm/leg $0.99. Maybe if I cant find an alternative, but Id rather have something smaller than 10". Why don't you buy an MS Surface Pro? I bought one 2 months ago and it's great. Because its hard to justify spending more than 100 dollars to use an electronic device whos sole purpose would be to display the CDU screen on a computer game. 200 dollars is pushing my boundary, and 900 dollars the thing better cook me breakfast in the morning too.
TonyZ Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 What you want is Helios (free) and a small 10 in touch screen vga monitor.they can be as low as 100 bucks or even less.I used the usb lilliput monitors at first but hated messing with the displaylink driver they required to run them which kept messing up my screen displays and their power requirements kept overloading the usb hubs. Now i have 2- 8" vga touch screen monitors which i use for the mfd displays and you could use 1 of the same type for the cdu.all you need is a graphic card with a second vga output.then setup dcs world monitor config.lua to output the mfd displays to the second monitors behind the cdu panel created in helios.look around he internet for the monitors.they are out there.

If at any point you have plans to upgrade or replace it, you could just consider buying a large touchscreen monitor and kill two birds with one stone. I briefly toyed with the idea of getting one myself, but ultimately decided on 27" IPS display. http://www.newegg.com/Touchscreen-Monitors/SubCategory/ID-514 http://104thphoenix.com/
