Hello this is my first post.

Im playing on 1920x1080p and I want to zoom out in cockpit view without changing the FOV because when I zoom out everything outside looks odd and small from the cockpit.

I tried "PeterP"'s mod but I still cant zoom out in cockpit without touching the FOV.

What I want is keeping the default world FOV and zoom out in cockpit to look around.

Maybe im not sure if I can change my mouse wheel just to zoom-in/out without changing FOV.

PS I dont have TrackIR.

Thanks :)

Zooming in/out is changing the FOV. I'm not sure what it is exactly you are trying to accomplish? It's like saying you want to get farther away from something without changing your distance from it.

Thanks for the fast reply, what am i trying to say is changing cockpit fov without changing outside view FOV,thats what i tried to say by zooming.

Because when I zoom-in everything is becomming too big like my head is stuck on the HUD.

When I zoom-out (Which I want) Now outside FOV looks too small and odd.

Sorry for my English I hope you get it.

This is impossible!

(zooming out without changing FOV - ZOOM is FOV )

You can't brake optical laws. - Its like starting a argument with GOD or the Universe - you won't win.

Here you get a idea abort the "why?"

(This is the first video of a WIP "Guide to the DCS View-Sytem")

I think I cant describe what I mean. thats because of my bad English :cry_2:

Here I took a screenshot and hopefully you guys will get what I mean.

I want to look the cockpit from backwards when I zoom-out everything else is becomming zoomed out because Im changing the FOV.

Im trying to set my head backward to see the cockpit and the hud but keep the FOV default.

I did fully understand what you want to say in post #3.

And again : no, you can't.

I thought you can set your head position whenever you want by tweaking config files.

Does it mean even TrackIR users are changing the FOV when they change their head position?

metalicalypse take time and look at PeterP movie, is very explanatory.

I too don't like distortions in cockpit in DCS and the only think I could do is too agree to myself that the default max FOV is way too big (140 degrees) and many of us got used to that "godlike" point of view.

The best compromise I found is to set my max zoom out FOV to 90 degrees in most of the planes and move my viewpoint forward a bit (ingame)

To actually move your pilot eyes forward you have two options:

1. Set in your Server.lua in the plane of your choice this parameter:

EyePoint = {0.150000,0.000000,0.000000}, bigger than 0. This is exactly what PeterP mod does... moves the eyes 15-16 cm forward in cockpit

2. Move your viewpoint pivot point in game via RCtrl+RSHift+Num* forward and save your preferred position as new default Snapview 13 (RAlt+Num0)

like in this picture of PeterP

Note that you can move your head only between 6DoF set boundaries defined in the same Server.lua a bit lower than Eyepoint. Also the Pivotpoint moves and saves positions in DefaultSnapViews.lua (game original settings) and SnapViews.lua (personal settings)

Guys... I think he is confusing terms due to language. He is not wanting to zoom-out, but rather only move his head further back in the cockpit. He wants the same FOV but with the camera further back... I think. Which I'm pretty sure will clip into the chair.

Metalicalypse, the second picture you posted is a much more real picture. The problem is you are lacking peripheral vision because you're monitor is like looking at the world through a small window. You can help by using more monitors, or by getting a Track IR that will let you easily move your head around. If you can't afford or don't want to spend the money on a Track IR, there are cheaper/free solutions out there too like http://facetracknoir.sourceforge.net/home/default.htm. Good luck.

Yes I want to put my head further back, in my screen the hud is looking very big, I know it looks like that irl but on my screen its very hard to look around, on A-10C is okay i have more windows to look but on Su-25T is very hard for me to enjoy the flight, thanks for your advice I have seen this earlier and will try to make.

If its possible to set your head back with TrackIR without changing the FOV then I believe it should be possible to change the values from config files to set back my head without touching the fov, if anyone is familiar with config files could you please at least tell me which lines should I tweak?

Edit: I found the thing I want this is what Im trying to say all the time, to move my head like I want without touching the FOV.
