The officer ranks are a little different to that pic. There is a light grey between each stripe in the RNZAF (something which always confuses visiting countries). Also the NEW ZEALAND is in black on the rank slides and the slide itself is a much lighter blue.

This picture here shows the grey behind each stripe, but even this isn't quite correct as the grey only appears between stripes not on the outer edges.

Ah there's the scoop. I'm not totally au fait with RNZAF ranks so that's good to know, thanks!

Very cool,

I missed your edited version including the Huey's in the mix, thanks again.

F/A 18F,

Thanks mate, it's really awesome of ED to do that and builds great repour with members and freeware developers alike. Hopefully ED will get a flood of new customers from our part of the world. BTW the 3 Sqn Hornets haven't been approved yet, hopefully next time DL mod visits they'll be available.

Well I have spent the last few hours looking at the latest changes to the Huey and especially the Australian logbook, ive got to say that at the least im disappointed that the Australian logbook turned out the way it did. When Aussieboy and i had the Australian logbook mod finished, there was a delineation between RAAF and Australian Army Aviation, the Army Rank slides unfortunately have been left out. Anyway for the Australians out there i suggest we wait till they fix the skins then go back to the Australian Logbook mod rather than the in game one, that is if you wish to fly Australian Army Aviation Corp. The NZ logbook mod will be out soon for the Kiwi's. I dont speak for Ausseboy here , these are my opinions. When i was asked if DCS could use our mod, i understood that both the RAAF and Australian Army components would not be kept separate, so this has obviously not allowed the use of both rank slides.

Gents,

I discovered a bug with the Aussie mod in how it deals with medals. I know that ED has taken responsibility with the mod, but I figured I would post it here for a learning repository.

The bug is insidious, but when you are awarded a medal it doesn't show up in your pilot log (despite seeing the medal properly on the debrief screen). It appears that the order of the medals listed in db_countries.lua is critical, and the lower tier medals need to be listed prior to the higher tier medals in order for them to display properly in the pilot log.

For example, DCS World lists the RAAF medals like this:

   award('Victoria Cross', _('Victoria Cross'), 3000, 'AUS01_Victoria_Cross.png'),
   award('Cross of Valour', _('Cross of Valour'),2600, 'AUS02_Cross_of_Valour.png'),
   award('Star of Gallantry', _('Star of Gallantry'), 2200, 'AUS03_The_Star_of_Gallantry.png'),
   award('Star of Courage', _('Star of Courage'), 1600, 'AUS04_Star_of_Courage.png'),
   award('Distinguished Service Cross', _('Distinguished Service Cross'), 800, 'AUS05_Distinguished_Service_Cross.png'),

So when the first award (the Distinguished Service Cross) is awarded at 800 points, it lists in the logbook as

           ["awards"] =
           {
               [21] =
               {
                   [5] = "Distinguished Service Cross",
               }, -- end of [21]
           }, -- end of ["awards"]

It appears that since there is a [5] entry without entries 1-4, the medal does not display in the pilot log.

Changing the logbook entry to

[1] = "Distinguished Service Cross",

allows it to be displayed in the logbook, and reordering the medals to

   award('Distinguished Service Cross', _('Distinguished Service Cross'), 800, 'AUS05_Distinguished_Service_Cross.png'),
   award('Star of Courage', _('Star of Courage'), 1600, 'AUS04_Star_of_Courage.png'),
   award('Star of Gallantry', _('Star of Gallantry'), 2200, 'AUS03_The_Star_of_Gallantry.png'),
   award('Cross of Valour', _('Cross of Valour'),2600, 'AUS02_Cross_of_Valour.png'),
   award('Victoria Cross', _('Victoria Cross'), 3000, 'AUS01_Victoria_Cross.png'),

should allow the medals to be entered into the logbook with the correct number

Thanks Home Fries, im sure DCS will take it on board :music_whistling: , thanks for your scrutiny.

Does anyone know if there is a DCS New Zealand logbook mod somewhere?

I would message Home Fries directly he has done all the work when it comes to modifying the logbook I'm using his USN add-on right now and it's been great. Are you looking for current RNZAF Squadrons or historical because I do have to say they don't have any current fighter squadrons.

Historical squadrons would be good.

Well I may have created a RNZAF log book with squadrons and proper rank. I looked up some of the RNZAF medals I hope I got them right. Send me a DM and we can talk about it also you have to download Logbook Improvements and USN/USMC for DCS World 2.7.10 and later first and then just copy the files I've created into your DCS World OpenBeta folder.

I did the following squadrons:

  • 75 SQN RNZAF (this is the squadron I would recommend for an A-4 pilot)
  • Navigation and Air Electronics Training Squadron RNZAF
  • 41 SQN RNZAF
  • 3 SQN RNZAF
  • 5 SQN RNZAF
  • 6 SQN RNZAF
  • 14 SQN RNZAF
  • 40 SQN RNZAF
  • 41 SQN RNZAF
  • 42 SQN RNZAF
  • Central Flying School RNZAF
  • 25 SQN RNZAF
  • 2 SQN RNZAF
  • 1 SQN RNZAF
  • RNZAF Boy Entrant School

Here's what I did for the Medals

  • New Zealand Distinguished Service Decoration
  • New Zealand Bravery Medal
  • New Zealand Gallantry Medal
  • New Zealand Cross
  • Victoria Cross for New Zealand
