VanjaB Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 Hi guys, I want to do some overclocking to experiment with regards to performance in DCS and could use some advice. I have the stock cooler on my CPU and Im looking for a decent and not too loud air-cooled alternative. Any advice?
Bee_Sting Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Make sure you get a good water cooler like the H-100.Don't go cheap on overclocking your cpu.
Bolt-1 Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 I disagree, I'm not using any watercooling solution and the configuration above runs very cool when overclocking to 4.2ghz...will post temps when I get home I agree with not using $$$ watercooling. Unless looking for a clean (inside case) look. And there is nothing wrong with that. My heatsink and fan's can bring me to 5.2 GHz stable no prob. with temps no higher than 45 to 48 C. after 4 or 5 days straight. Of course a little higher with stress testing.. What I use is in my spoiler. The biggest prob with what I have is its HEAVY on the MB. My Specs. below ASUS TUF Z390 Pro Gaming I5 9600K@4.5 Ghz. 32 Gb. G. streakeagle Posted August 23, 2013 Posted August 23, 2013 (edited) Just overclocked mine for the first time last night... 4.2 didn't cause any temp issues. I have a huge side fan, two top fans, two front fans and the standard rear fan in a white Corsair Carbide series 500R. This thing is both quiet and cool! Nume Noctre Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 Hi, I have the 3570K on an Asus P8Z77 i Deluxe running at 4.6Ghz and i am using the Thermalright Macho H02 on it. Have no stability issues and the system noise is very quiet. Nume [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Check out my channel
BHawthorne Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 Depends on what you want to do. There are closed loop liquid cooling kits that are affordable or you can go with high performance air cooling. My personal preference is the Prolimatech Megahalems which is pretty much the defacto standard for air cooling for enthusiasts for a few years now. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835242008
metalnwood Posted September 6, 2013 Posted September 6, 2013 I have 5 h80's on i5's all at 4.5. I just do it because it's easy to set up and its extremely quiet.
Erforce Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 LoL i used to go at 4.3 with my stock intel fan with the 3770K. then i bought the H110i Watercooling for something like 90€. although i customized it a little, cuz it didn't fit in my case (swapped case/WC fans because they were too big to fit at top exhaust). Noise = quiet / very acceptable (unless you go nuts) OC = 4.9Ghz temp = with the wrong fans, i got to 75°C this summer. (30 ambiant) advantage = my high profile RAM are happy.
