mvpe Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Hi all, I'm new at DCS and have a question to SU-25T pilots. The problem seems to occur with the 500kr bomb. I lock a target with the Shkval, climb to above 1000km, and wait for the LA message in the HUD. However most of the time the Shkval looses its aim and resets to the centre of the HUD. I'm guessing this could be due to me having the wrong altitude and air speed rather than a bug with the game. In one of the tutorials the waypoint directs me to 3000 km and 440 air speed. Does anyone know what other alt/speed work with this bomb? Thanks.
Rangi Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Whats the view of DCS world like from up in space? It sounds like the Shkval is out of gimble limits, keep the nose pointed down more torwards the target. Without a track or video its all i can think of to help you. Ps. welcome to the forum. Fishbreath Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Is it just the autopilot that has roll/pitch limits, or will the Shkval lose tracking, too, if it's above 30 degrees of pitch/60 degrees of bank? 159th_Falcon Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Both skhval and AP have there limits. Though, both are separate and completely unrelated. Altitude and Speed should not be an issue. What happens if you replicate all conditions in which the skhval loses lock, except now you don't select the 500Kr? If it stops could be either two things, * a bug * a feature, skhval is now limited to the gimbal limits of the bomb? Night Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 If you fly directly above a target, the Shkval will go outside it's gimbal limits and will lose track. As rangi suggested, fly high and keep your nose pointed down. Let off the throttle and perhaps use air brakes so you don't descend too quickly and you shouldn't have a problem lazing the target during the bomb's descent. 159th_Falcon Posted September 3, 2013 Posted September 3, 2013 The KAB-500Kr is a TV guided bomb. Meaning its fire and forget. No need to guide it whit the laser. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] The keeper of all mathematical knowledge and the oracle of flight modeling.:)
esb77 Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 (edited) Make sure your target box is sized correctly, the KAB and the Kh-29T are pretty picky about that. It can also have problems with low contrast targets such as grass covered hangers or bunkers. That's just because the sensor looks for contrast, not a bug as far as I know. Oh, one other thing, if you do a steep climb you may be exceeding the limits of the Shkval system, either in total rotation or rate of rotation. Climb, zoom, lock target may work better than zoom, lock target, climb. Edited September 24, 2013 by esb77 Callsign "Auger". It could mean to predict the future or a tool for boring large holes.
