A little update.

I got the GPU today. A gigabyte GTX 770 OC 2gb.

My old one was a Gigabyte GT 560 TI 1 gb

The rest of the system atm is an i7 2600 @ 3.4, 16gb ram and DCS on SSD.

I set all settings to max. Everything.

I then loaded a clouded mission with tons of moving units around me.

With old GPU: 5 FPS

With new GPU: 20 - 25 FPS

I am waiting for a new CPU, an i5 3570k. My next tests will be with new cpu at standard clock, then OC to around 4.2 ghz.

All in all I am happy. I never expected that I could run on max settings, but this test was to see how big the GPU upgrade was. And it was imo big.

I'm still running a 560Ti and am considering upgrading to a GTX 780.

Figure I'll wait until EDGE is finally released though and then see what people say.

My motto with PC upgrades is hold off as long as possible then spend more money than you can afford. Maybe we'll have GTX 880's by then!

hopefully we start seeing some actual performance games with the next series from Nvidia, because these last ones have all been just meh (speaking of in-game performance not benchmarks).

Yeah, DCS and Arma 3 are the only games I really play and they run adequately on my rig with the 560Ti and i5 2500k. I don't have the graphics anywhere near maxed out but I can live with that.

The way things are going though, I can see VR taking off with the oculus rift, especially when it comes to sim gaming. This will probably require a much better frame rate for a pleasant experience and thus, more powerful hardware.

I think we're on the precipice of virtual reality revolution, where being able to run games in stereoscopic 3D at increasing resolutions and high frame rates will make demands on our PC's again like the good old days.

Personally, I think it's damn exciting.

i have 2GTX570s, one of which is useless haha, but the lack of Vram is going to start hurting me, if it only had more VRAM, personally i hoping edge is better optimized for ATi, since ive always liked ATi more, because of their better prices and slightly less performance in games.

The latest ATi cards are fast and good value but I've heard they're hot, power hungry and noisy. I'd rather pay a bit more for a geforce card that runs a bit cooler. It's horses for courses though. Boils down to personal preference.

well i never buy stock cards from either company, i go for gigabytes, evgas or saphires (with their custom coolers).

and i highly doubt anything can be hotter or noiser than my current cards, its like turning on an powerful blow dryer, good in the cold winter though, keeps you nice and toasty.
