badger66 Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 I think its a shame , flying online that user skins are not used more . Is there a reason behind this ? I understand that the player needs to have the same skin installed for it to appear in his game ? Is there any way to get (authentic user skins) included in the main game so everyone has them ? It just seems a shame to me that there are some brilliant artists out there doing some super work ..... and you only ever get to appreciate their work in single player ..... which I never use .

ENO Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 I think guys in specific squadrons have "packs" of skins that everyone is expected to install... that's the only way I've heard of to do it "in 5 minutes." As for the future- an option to "see user skins" would be really neat- granted I'm not sure how I'd feel flying wing on wing with the Red Baron (little infringement on my suspension of disbelief hahaa) but I have long missed the potential of seeing some personalization in the game. As it is, setting my personal aircraft number to 90210 in the ME is about as close as I can get. "ENO" Type in anger and you will make the greatest post you will ever regret. Pman Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 This has been discussed before and the problem is the size of the skins, some of which are up to 80mb in size. If the VA server was to supply those to whomever connected it would be a massive amount of load for the server. This one has to remain with the user, its not that hard to download a skin and install it tbh
ENO Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 80mb? I do remember that though now that you mention it... If you know offhand how big are the stock skins? "ENO" Type in anger and you will make the greatest post you will ever regret. "Sweetest's" Military Aviation Art
Pman Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 Stock ones are up to about 10-15mb tops. But they are pretty low quality compared to some of the ones on the market which are much much nicer. I have one I am looking atm which is 73mb... 1
ENO Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 So just to confirm if I download the skin someone else is using then it is visible? If not does it just default to a stock skin (basically whichever one is assigned by the ME?) "ENO" Type in anger and you will make the greatest post you will ever regret. Yes...normally for the A-10C it defaults to the stock Osan skin. v303d Fighter Group Discord | Virtual 303d Fighter Group Website
ENO Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 Okay cool! Might need to take a closer look at that. I'd like to get some subtle identifiers onboard. "ENO" Type in anger and you will make the greatest post you will ever regret. "Sweetest's" Military Aviation Art
Pman Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 Yep if 2 people have the same skins then it will show correctly :)

Also, since 1.2.4. you can put your custom skins in your saved games folder so when DCS is updated it doesn't touch your custom skins. v303d Fighter Group Discord | Virtual 303d Fighter Group Website
ajax Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 Yes...normally for the A-10C it defaults to the stock Osan skin. But for the Ka-50, unfortunately, you get the orange 'missing texture' skin. There is a fix available, posted by 159th_Falcon, here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=111573
