Skall Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 For a while now I've been wondering how your wingman knows what his heading/range from the bullseye point is when calling out targets so easily. Today I decided to spend some time with the CDU in hopes to slowly conquer it and as I was mucking about I see "HUD OFF" on the ANCHOR sub page of the WAYPOINT page. I hit the LSK next to it and it turns to "HUD ON". Looking up at the HUD I see BULLSEYE followed by what I assumed was my heading and range from the BULLSEYE. A quick double-check with the ruler on the map confirmed my assumption. So I go, "ohmagerd that's how they do it". Then I think, "why isn't this on by default"? Is there an easier why to get your heading/range from the bullseye? I doubt it considering this is right in your face (HUD). 1
Tetra Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 You can also obtain your heading/range from bullseye with the TAD and find or make any bullseye call the same way. Fish's had a good video on the TAD, the second half covers the various techniques for hooking the bullseye to do the above. My Mods: Radar Warning Receiver Audio Expansion G-Breath Sound Mod

On the side, I know this isn't the FC3 area but anyone know how to get heading/range from bullseye from the cockpit of the F15?
NoCarrier Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 On the side, I know this isn't the FC3 area but anyone know how to get heading/range from bullseye from the cockpit of the F15? You can't. Apparently, ED thinks bullseye calls are too difficult for the FC3 jet jockeys. 1

Skall Posted September 13, 2013 Author Posted September 13, 2013 I have found most bullseye are waypoint 1 on servers.. So with that you would leave your nav set to waypoint 1 and then in the HSI you would have a distance given in miles from where you are from the Bulls. then you need to also use the hsi to find which direction the bulls is from you.. then you would call the bulls 180* from where your hsi points So for example you are about to merge in a dogfight and have someone on TS with you trying to locate you to help.. you look at the hsi and it reads 72miles and it's point at for simplication 0 or 360*[both are the same] and your alititude is 12,000ft.. you would call BRA 180 72m angels 12 or FL12 BRA stands for Bearing, so in this case you see a 0/360 heading back towards the bulls you would tell them you're 180* from the bulls.. this way if they were smack dab in the center of the bulls you would have to turn to heading 180 to roughly intersect you. R stands for range from the bulls in this case it's 72 miles and A stands for alitude or angels 12, 12,000 or flight level 12.. Keep in mind you might also want to give them your current heading also and a rough esitmate of speed that way they can alter their course as to fly in a straight line and intercept you quicker.. I want to add though this takes time to get used too and can be daunting when you're trying to concentrate on not getting killed.. I play on 51st and I've had several instances of 104thSpade ask me for a location to help and I just freeze up unable to tell him where I am.. and I die because he can't get in and help.. BTW if Awacs is availible and you ask for a bogey dope I do believe they will give you BRA from your exact point in space.. So if they call BRA 282 100m hot 4500 this means that you would need to turn to heading 282 to intercept head on. you know they are 100miles out at that point Now since they called out HOT means it is heading directly at you so your point of merge will not be 100 miles more like 50 miles if both you and the bogey is traveling at the same speed and the bogey is at 4500 ft. Now say they call the same call of BRA 282 100m cold 4500 what this means is they are running away from you.. turning to heading 282 you would go 100 miles and they could still be 100 miles in front of you if you had the same air speed.. or BRA 282 100m flanking 4500: Flanking means they are not heading directly at you or away.. They could be parallel to you or flying in a tangent that could result in them being 90/180* to your side or behind you. Keep in mind with any flanking call turning into bearing listed probably will not give you a direct intercept.. if lets say I'm heading 0* and need to turn left to 282* I would turn to around 240*-270* On another note with a flanking call and awacs avoid using radar and just use awacs to get you into the bogey of around 20nm that way you don't alert the bogey to your presence way ahead of time and with a quick turn on of radar lock and fire your chances of a splash is greatly increased. Nice. Very good info there.
