Hi guys,

would appreciate some guidance...

my previous rig recently had an internal lightning storm... which was interesting!

What do you guys recommend sys spec wise for a rebuild right now?

Forgive the stupid Q but am an OK stick and rudder guy, but dunno my ass from my elbow when it comes to tech... sorry.

Any help welcome.

Hi guys,

Just couldn't resist, 'cause you've described me to a tee! I too am looking forward to some knowledgeable, experienced input here... I can only hope simple words are used, but pictures would be better :smilewink: (low tech humor)

What is your budget? I'm assuming the "lightning storm" did quite a bit of damage so are you looking for a full build?

What I've got and have zero issues running DCS.

12 Gb RAM

i7 3930k CPU On liquid cooling OC'd to 4.1

ATI HD 7950 GPU

Not 100% on mobo, sry

I know this is not very informative but a good idea of what to look for in order to run DCS with no issues.

I did some changes on my system in the recent weeks wich noticably improved the perfromance especially while flying in DCS.

That is my current setup:

-i7 - 3770K which is overclocked to 4.5 GHz. A corsair H60 water cooling keeps it nice and cool.

-Intel DP77KG mainboard. Very nice and the graphical BIOS makes applying overclocks easy (don't use the automatic tool though). If I would buy another mainboard again today, I would probably go for an ASUS. Not because Intel mainboards are bad, I just like the qualitiy ASUS probides.

- 8GB of Ram. It is from Corsair, but I guess that really doesn't matter, as long as it is fast enough.

- ASUS GTX 780 Direct CU II graphics card. I got that a few weeks ago. It was expensive, but it gave me big increases in my game's performance. Probably it provided most bang for the bucket.

- ASUS GTX 560Ti Direct CU II graphics card. I performed well for several years, I just couldn't get rid of it. At the momment it just sits there and powers my second monitor. Does some load shedding of the 780 I guess. (But you don't need to buy a second card if you don't have one allready.

- A Samsung 540 Pro 512GB SSD. I got it together with the 780, and I am not sure if it did anything for the performance but it cut loading times down to half or even less.

- Two 500 GB Western Digital HDDs. At the momment I use those for data storage, bevore the SSD I used those for my games and Windows, worked well, but just much slower.

- I use a corsair 750W power supply. It was expensive, but it is from a excellent quality and provides cable managment which is totally recommended. Never go cheap on the power supply, it will come much more expensive.

I hope that helps.

Best regards,

Jonathan
