This week, I`ll be looking at a new way to sort the A2A pilots list, because right now its not quite fair. Its favouring the "one flight, one kill, never return" pilots.

Someone comes in, shoots down one plane and leaves, they have 1 kill, 0 deaths, and are at the top part of the list. Someone else comes in, shoots down 100 planes and gets killed once, and they are in the second part of the table. Not quite right somehow.

Will probaby work on a scoring system something like:

Kills - Deaths - (4 x Team Kills)

and then sort the list using these "Score/Points" values, and eliminate the Kill/Death ratio column completely.

I will also apply the same kind of scoring for the A2G pilots table too.

(Thanks to Shamman for showing me a better way to "score" pilots)

I have a suggestion:

The same way K/D favours some people, so will the Kill minus losses. K/D Is vital for pilot perfomance evaluation though. A combat record is measured that way. Number of sorties and carreer longivity is another aspect to take in account for statistical representativity, wich is missing untill now. Dont eleminate K/D on the equation.

What I have in mind is to stop people from disapearing or start going bazerk for the most kills possible without fear of dying, is to divide the table into carreer ranks. The top batch is for pilots with greater number of Sessions (sorties) comprised in an interval you established knowing how many sessions there were hosted.

This way a pilot would be both rewarded for K/D ratio and carreer history.

looking at the current tables sorting it again if you implemeted this^^^^ you would get pilots with high double K/D digits (or more) apear on top of the table Such as Ice, eagle, Goya, Goon, ETC, on that order. This ranking looks fair to me. Like this:

Pilot:....||..K/D ..||Sorties||Total kills||

Ice.......||...10...||10-20||.....30.....||

Eagle....||....7....||10-20||.....40.....||

Goya....||....6....||10-20||.....30.....||

[The guy on this single slot is not of interest]

Mustang||....3...||5-10||......30.....||

Bupyc...||Perfect||5-10||.......9.....||

Slash....||Perfec||5-10||........9.....||

And so on, the lower the table slots the lower "soties" interval values (down to 1). The interval is up to your criteria and could be Dynamic on the chart as the total Sessions count goes up.

Note: you could rearrange the columns above to better match the order you have right now, Im to lazy to that ^^^^ Im tired of aligning text. :D

P.S. I hope our coments doesnt come too late to prevent any vain work. :)

Zorlac,

I LOL'd at your Chuck Norris stats. You forgot the one where he says he's been flying LOMAC for the past 25 years...as he says about the "Total Gym" which has only, actually been in existence for about 5 years. :beer:

Yeah I never understood that part about him using it for so long when it seemed it was just released not to long ago...but after all... he is Chuck Norris. Atleast you guys have a sense of humor... I was well known at this KLR650 forum.. had 1700 posts... well I threw a few Chuck Norris facts out there :p ... Well I've been banned for the last few days.. wonder when he'll let me back in :p

Its all about the infomercial. They figure they'll play it late at night on the weekends and catch you when you're drunk and ready to believe anything.

Heh...I guess there isn't enough alcohol in the world for me just yet. :icon_jook

I'd like to go on record to officially announce that the guy I team-killed, needed killing and we're all better off because of it. :)

I have another suggestion: Sort all the team killers after the pilots with a clean record (without team kills)

BTW, the guy you team-killed has Not yet made a team kill. He he he.

Anyway, Nice score Goya (You close in on Ice :beer: ).

OK, I`ll leave it in, but wont user it to sort the table (easier for me, i dont have to go and remove too much code :) )

mmm... got me thinking. my export/lua that spits out the mp_log also spits out the players currently in game for the server status page. I guess I could process the pilot's names every time the stats are exported from the lomac server, and keep a running total of how long each one has been "in game". Wouldnt be too difficult, and would give us a "serious" timescale to use... anyone who has been on the server for more than xx hours is classed as a regular, and ends up being placed in the top part of the table. Sadly, as this would be "on-the-fly" data creation (and not able to be deduced from the game event log history), it would take a while for the "usual suspects" to gain that much time to be placed in the "regulars" spot.... or I could wipe the stats and start from scratch, something I would rather not do.

Question: How many hours do you think it should take before someone is classed as a "regular"? (It would enable me to add another stats page... A "You need to get out more, and meet real people" stats page, a.k.a. a sorted page of accumulated server time per pilot :))

P.S. I hope our coments doesnt come too late to prevent any vain work. :)

I tend to think a lot about stuff before I actually get around to doing anything :). I`ll work on this during the week on the test web page server, and see what I can come up with before I unleash it on the live web server.

mmm... if i am able to keep track of pilot's "In-game" times, then I can do some extra stats as well:

average time between kills

average time between deaths

if I keep track of accumulated flight time for aircraft as well, I can do the same for aircraft...

OK, will have a look at this.

I think you shouldnt give a fixed amount of hours to classify pilot as a regular.

Because the amount of time to do that depends on how long the server has been running with this system. For example lets supose you had the server up for like 24h with 12 Sessions. A regular pilot would attend at least 1 or 2 per day. After you had the server running a month, no longer will 1 or 2 sessions be considered regular flying. It should be dynamic as I said before or you could simply determnine who has the most and who has the least on the database, and devide that into 4, or more frequency ranks. The nº1 rank should be cassified at the top of the table, and down to the least frequency class of players. Each sub table of frequency then should have pilots in K/D ranks like the example above.

Not realy. ;) Most poeple go there get 1 or 2 kills and then they leave. I get like 7, 12 or more kills in a single session (the amount of deaths is another issue). If you devide my total kills by those numbers you will know roghly how many sessions I've been playing since it started to track pilots (december). You will find out that the number of sessions is not high at all. ;)

I was there together with you on Saturday and today and also on Friday for a short session. Anyway I don’t make my alias public before I can first improve the k/d ratio :) (BTW, I scored 4 A2A kills this weekend)

The idea is to use my old alias (superfulcrum) for the A2G with the 25T in the future (This will give me of course a bad A2A k/d ratio)

Man I love stats and I am having great ping too on that 504 server.

LOL ok Im curious to know wich one of those is you. I also have a long way up to do. My score is so volumous that K/D is stabilized at 5 and Im having a pain to get it up. LOL Itll require something like 20 nill on one single session.

Its been a frenetic struggle to sort targets between team mates because everybody races at them once they get a blip on scope. Lots of fun robbing and being robbed.Kinda reminde me off the top gun contest. "Ice, move over I can practicaly shoot him from here!"

LOL I wished those Su-25's didnt plunge into the ground at the slightest sign of trouble though! :p LOL

LOL I ceased to use the Sidwinders for the simple reason by the time I get in range to shoot them any AA fighter will be alerted to my presence and he will be low and on AB. The AIM-9 has no legs at all in this game and I've seen it fall short too often of what it looked like to be sure kills. Numerous times I used the gun instead. I've been loading up Combos of AMRAAM's and Sparrows ever since.

Your new alter-ego player name is safe with me... not sure if its so safe with the few people I have already told :) (only one person so far)

Not like that at all, I've been playing at night, a bit before and after dinner. Plus, I divide my play for 2 or 3 sessions a night because of bad FPS. I also go for the most kills possible while most just manage their situation more calmly.

LOL, dude, its feels a bit cheap to be first place with the most kills (I am not sure I played the most sessions, however some people stop going there as much to preserve their K/D)

If its not too much to ask, One day I would like to see you make K/D per carreer status as with the examples we gave you on the previous page. Its more logical. This way its just going to increase the kamikaze factor IMHO.

Worse, everybody managed their carrers with the old scoring system and this just cheats on them.

Its up to you of course and we all apreciate all the work made to finaly measure up pilots with real numbers. :)

EDIT: Looking at the table more careffuly it seems to me that you implemented carreer ranks after all, but I think you made too many carreer ranks. I should have been in the same as Goya and Ice for example(I was actualy enjoying climbing the ladder). Its not fair if they cant attend as much as I do (again I dunno if this is riguorously true, but we should give the benifit of a doubt with a certain amount of frequency---->) 4 or 5 carreer ranks shuld be enough, I dunno if you should spread them linearly or in a logaritmic kinda scale. Because all we want is to prevent sporadic high scorers and leave K/D to tell the rest of the story.

The items on the previous page:

- Keeping the stats "current" with expiry on them

Still working on the best way to do this. Two options... well three actually.

1 - ignore EVERYTHING older than xx days. Pilots would need to be on the server quite regularly to keep up their stats, as the older stats "expire". Go away for a week or two on vacation, and you will plummet down the "score" table.

2 - for pilots who have flown in the last xx days, remember ALL their kills and deaths from the start of the log. This has the side effect of making it hard for new guys to climb the "score" table. I also have the problem of deaths of pilots who have "expired" from the stats. If Piltasso kills Numptie, and numptie never comes back, after xx days do I ignore Numpties kill in Pilotasso's stats? Or do I count it, making Numptie's stat sheet look terrible because I am ignoring his kills (time expired), but showing his deaths by pilots who havent time expired.

- Sorties

I am unable to count the number of "sessions" or sorties the pilots have. Do you mean the number of successful take-off/landing cycles here? (rather than take-off/kill/crash)

- K/D ratio vs "Score"

K/D sorted stats still exist as a seperate page, I havent replaced them with the a "score" based system. The "score" based sorted page is in addition, so both sets of ranks can be displayed.
