Why does this plane slow down when going downhill? I am moderately familiar with prop pitch and MP, as well as constant speed prop. But when descending rapidly the plane will slow down. And when I try to land the IAS goes to "0" somewhere around 125 mph and stays there. No Game Mode or Avionics, I only use SIM. It seems like when I first started flying it was correct, about 3 weeks ago. But since the latest patch the IAS seems buggy when landing and diving. Anyone else see this? TY, still a joy to fly.

Maybe a frozen pitot?

Good one!:smartass:

Pitot heat is a little switch near the battery. I don't recall the beginner's tutorial mentioning it, but you should probably make it part of your normal startup routine.

Don't do do that. IIRC your engine tends to die shorty after T/O if you turn on pitot heat on the ground. Unless it was a bug (it's been some time since I experienced that) only turn on pitot heat after take off.

So can you leave the pitot on without any damage from overheating? I did turn it on after the loss of IAS gauge, but nothing happened. Maybe there was not enough time and it should have been on before? What are the basic parameters for safe operation of the pitot heater, and is it electric, or does it use engine heat?

IRL, you don't want to turn on pitot heat on the ground because it can overheat and damage the pitot tube. However, that couldn't possibly damage your engine. If it does it in the sim (last time I tried it, several versions ago, it did not), then it's a bug. My guess is that your post-takeoff engine failure was coincidence--perhaps insufficient engine warmup (that's almost always the cause behind any just-post-takeoff engine quit I suffer).

Engeine wasn't damaged it just cut out shortly after take off. However that was quite a while ago. Not sure if that was intentional or a bug.

Good to know! Switching it on early has never caused me problems.

Please post a track.

TY sobek for your prompt response. I am still working with the CSProp, so maybe I am introducing drag with incorrect pitch. Sorry, it just seems to behave differently than the Spit 2 in Cliffs in a dive. Probably my ineptitude. Again, sorry.

It is an electric resistance, that warms the Pitot Tube. (and by warm.. i mean almost red!)

As a Basic Rule, turn on the pitot heat under 5°C (or under icing conditions)

There are no restrictions for how long you keep it on.

Remember is electric so in case of Generator Failure you should turn it off (as with most of other electrical load)

Its very difficult to really damage the Pitot by leaving it on in the ground... is more of a safety issue to the ground crew.. because it gets really hot!
