drsgfire Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 I will try to explain what he probably means. He has multihomed network (computer connected to multiple networks) and wants to use specific network interface for hosting DCS game. The problem is that DCS picks only the interface which is used to connect to DCS main server and listens for connections only on it. This basically prevents hosting DCS games via Hamachi or similarly working VPN solutions, which use virtual network interfaces. It is legit to ask for an option to specify network interface. Imagine a situation in which a person lives in university campus and wants to host a game for friends from outside. No one will forward ports and no one will allow UPnP. VPN working behind a NAT is usually the only solution in such cases. If you look at the network.cfg you can still see that there is an interface setting. It is the local ip. Has anyone tried changing that in the network.cfg to a neighboring LAN ip to see if you can get through?

Game GUI still shows external IP, but it seems that game listens on interface to which IP from network.cfg belongs. So, it will probably work. Wir sehen uns in Walhalla.
drsgfire Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Game GUI still shows external IP, but it seems that game listens on interface to which IP from network.cfg belongs. So, it will probably work. Like I said before once I get this other installation done I'll post the results. I have an outside router too on a different ip range that I "might" try. That would require me moving my computer to another physical location and my machine is heavy :) I do recall having issues when I had Hamachi installed on my computer where the default LAN connection was picking up as the Hamachi 5.xxx.xxx.xxx address. I wonder if when they dropped the feature, his cfg didn't get locked up with the VPN address instead of his actual physical LAN address. If you can check that out and let us know what it says that would help. If it says anything other than 192.168.xxx.xxx then you probably have a problem. Unless you just run a seriously complicated network solution at your residence :)
G00dnight Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 I thought the op made it quite clear in his original post that he was asking ED for an answer to a change in the game that seemed to make no sense, No input from anyone else was required. Maybe it would have been better sent as a PM to an official or as a support ticket to ED but the op probably thought that he may get a quicker answer on here. Looks like he was wrong. I just wonder how an actual answer would help him. He made at least clear that he relies on the existance of the LAN option and won't play DCS if it is gone. So what would it give him if he gets the information as to why it was removed? The LAN option would still be gone. And as he refuses to discuss the true problem (and/or possible solutions) of his setup, he would still be without LAN option and therefore be in the same situation as before. Only one other useless answer richer. All in all, hrm, somewhat sub optimal approach to solve problems, if I were asked ... *shrugs*

drsgfire Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 So... this LAN connection still works even though it does not specify it on the GUI. I was able to direct connect in my LAN and still have outside users connect to the server. If that works then there is no reason why a VPN connection would not still work. You just might have to manually enter your VPN ip into the network.cfg for it to take. Good luck :)

I also had to rely on VPN to host games and now I can't do it anymore.
drsgfire Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 Open your User>Saved Games>DCS>Config Folder and you will find the network.cfg file. Open this with notepad. --------------------------------------------------- You should see something like this in a notepad window: connection = { "LAN", 1310720, 1310720, } player_name = "Server Admin" server = { disable_events = false, client_params = "motd=\"Welcome to A-10C server!\";", pause_on_load = true, public = true, mission_dir = "C:\\Users\\Jose\\Saved Games\\DCS\\Missions\\Ranger79", password = "", max_players = 10, name = "MidKnight Server", client_outbound_limit = 0, port = 10308, client_inbound_limit = 0, allow_object_export = false, integrity_check = { "Config/Weapons", "Scripts/compile.lua", }, } client = { history_size = 16, history = { }, } chat = { view_rows = 3, offset = 0, } ----------------------------------------------- Somewhere in the middle with all the others place this line: interface = whatever your vpn address is, (Example- interface = 25.194.246.31) --------------------------------------------------- I don't for sure know if this will work but it should... I think... lol. If you get an error after you put this line in, just delete the network.cfg file and the game will recreate a new default one. Let us know what happens.
Linx Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 (edited) Didn't work. How can I host this game normally then? I disabled firewall, uninstalled anti virus, allowed ports in windows firewall. Friends still get the "can't connect messege". :( I'm not behind a router so that's not a problem and I could always host every other game without a problem. The only way I got another DCS to connect was if the other computer was connected to the same modem. Is something blocking outside connections? Is there any way that I can host this game online? ENO Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Did you uncheck "public server" while you were trying to sort out your VM issues and forget to re-check it to host a public game? "ENO" Type in anger and you will make the greatest post you will ever regret. "Sweetest's" Military Aviation Art
