Hi,

after 1 week of testing, I don't know what to do :

I have a high end computer with SLI GTX780 and i7 3770k@4.8Ghz and I have microfreeze with Helios (1680*1050) + Surround (5760*1080) on DCS.

I think it comes from Surround + Helios because :

  1. with one screen for DCS and Helios on other one, no problem
  2. with 3 screens on DCS with MFD on fourth one (7440*1080), a little bit freezy but playable
  3. with 3 screens on DCS (5760*1080) + Helios on fourth one : no problem
  4. with 4 screens on DCS (7440*1080) + MFD export : no problem
  5. with 4 screens on DCS (7440*1080) + Helios and no MFD export : micro freezes which make games really annoying to play
  6. with 4 screens on DCS (7440*1080) + Helios and MFD export : micro freezes which make games really annoying to play

The problem seems to come when DCS and Helios are merging. I still have good fps (around 50-60), it's just micro freezes and I don't know what to do. I have just format my computer but still the same.

Maybe someone can help me !

Thanks

Hi

yes I have a SSD with Helios and DCS on it. I have no sound card and I placed Helios and DCS on different cores (I disabled HT on bios)

My cores aren't full load when playing.

I have a MSI Z77 Mpower motherboard and I use its sound card.

I don't think Helios is using sound ?

I'm in RAID mode. Don't you think strange latency only comes when I use Helios and DCS on same screen ?

I think problem really comes from Surround and accessory display : with fourth screen in T shape and resolution 5760*2130, awfull freezes but 45 fps.

A lot of people here have AMD ATI cards, maybe that's it

I've been battling a similar scenario with helios and 4 screens. Just when I think I have everything tweaked just right I'll be plagued with stutters. Unfortunately, I think there may be a bug in FPS representation in-game with CTRL-Pause also.

I am currently able to run the game + helios as smooth as butter if I turn Windows Aero off. The FPS deal shows 11-15fps which used to make me mad and I'd just resume testing other settings, because everyone says to run Helios with Aero on. Well, not only does the game run like butter with what appears to be incorrect fps #'s but helios is also back to being instantly responsive with aero off, like it was on a single monitor without surround.

I'll try an external fps tester and I'd hate to think that aero off is my fix because it's so minor, but so far I am stutter free and running very smooth gameplay at what the game reports to be 11 fps! Also, note if I turn aero back on and if I ever get the game down to 11fps it's a sluggish nightmare and while aero on gives me much higher fps the range is a huge fluctuating mess from 7 to 56 and stutters constantly - so something is fishy.

I would try with Aero off and IGNORE the in-game FPS monitor and see how you feel.

dcs runs on a dedicated cpu for sounds.

I'm also having the same problem with stuttering, or slow export refresh rate.

I'm running Nvidia Surround with 3 combined screens and a fourth display for Helios.

With Aero on, Helios gauges stutter and appear to have a low refresh rate, however my in-game fps are mid-50s.

With Aero off, Helios is smooth as silk but my in-game fps are mid-20s.

This setup used to work in previous DCS versions, but I'm unsure when the problem appeared as I hadn't loaded up DCS for a very long time until recently.

I'm currently using Cap Loz's profile, I'll knock up a simple profile to test and report back.

Thanks,

Edit:

Well a 'simple' profile using a cut-and-paste of the flight instruments and engine cluster from Cap Loz's profile is running smoothly with Aero on.

I'll go through Cap Loz's prfile to see if I can narrow down what might be causing my problem. It's strange though, this profile used to be fine with previous versions of DCS.

Okay, seems to be related to transparent backgrounds (in Helios) in some way.

If I set the background to 'fill' instead of leaving the entry blank or using a background with transparent regions, there is no problem and everything runs smoothly.

No idea how to overcome this problem yet. I still need to be able to see my DCS MFCD and other exports through my Helios 'dash'.
