Hi folks.

I was just cruising the net and found some excellent jet movies. They're called "Fighter Fling". I believe there are many versions of this. Looks like a series actually, since there is "Fighter Fling 2000 -----> 2004". Anyway, these movies are excellent. Quite long too and the footage is very cool.

Anyway, since the F-14 is going to be taken out of service (the F-18 was replacing it?) i thought it might be nice to create a F-14 tribute movie.

Now, is anyone interested in seeing such a movie, or should i just let it go?

Cheers ;)

yea an F-14 movie by you would be nice, the only downfall (that there's nothing you can do) is the fact that the F-14 model in the game is very....ugly. O btw...the Fighter Fling series extends all the way back to 1989, i have all of them and it's about 3.13 gigs. I think you can download it over at patricks.

Yes, i noticed the other fling movies as well. Lots of movies here:

And yeah, i know about the F-14 model not beeing...."all that good" compared to the flyable, and some of the non-flyable (F-16, F-18 anyone??).

But with some clever editing and good use of sound, the footage wont look as bad as the 3d model might be.

A 'TOP GUN' theme would be nice., also throwing in a few Migs would be a good touch like in the film....and don't forget the camera incident with the F-14 inverted over one of the Migs.

Or maybe even a touch of the FIREFOX (Clint Eastwood) film would be nice

Look forward to it G_A - you are da man

Cheers

Can't have enough F-14 movies. Also, F-14 models are never ugly. They may lack detail or resolution, but they are still beautiful nevertheless. All of them.

Ok, so it seems the interest is there at least..

But making a "top gun" style movie, or even "firefox", i think, is out of the question. Regarding Top Gun, someone has already made such a movie using the Tomcat, so i don't wanna go and copy stuff. I wanna do my own thing.

If it's going to be a tribute movie, then i guess i'll just show what the Tomcat is all about, trying to do so in a lovely style ;)

Those two screenies Caretaker posted are from Fleet Defender, the best Tomcat sim ever.

It featured detailed radar modes, Hawkeye Datalink, partly mouse-clickable pit with e.g. functioning MasterArm switch, immersive campaigns and several theatres.

I guess I played it all through about 5 times...

The Fleet Defender Gold edition featured a CD-ROM with a good multimedia presentation of one of the "Cats vs. Lybia" incidents, including tactical voice comm recordings, transscripts and event timelines.

Very good ACM learning stuff...:horseback

I still play the game occasionally on my old Pentium 200 MMX...:icon_syda

...but if you´re used to LOMAC and Falcon in 1600x1200 then you can´t stand 320x200 on a 22" for long anymore...

@ G.A.:

I´d love to see a LOMAC-based Tomcat tribute movie!

If you do one, you just can´t leave out reminding of the "Cat vs. Su-22" and "Cat vs. Mig-23" RL incidents, that made the Cat just as famous as "Top Gun" did.

Check out this movie with some of the original voice recordings:

That lybia incident. i have that entire recording on my HD ;)
Cool, could you upload that somewhere or post a web link?

PLEASE:icon_excl

I was searching for the complete footage for quite some time.

Too bad I didn´t buy a FD Gold copy, but I already had the basic version...

No, GA, buddy, I got you totally right.

I want the voice recordings, be it .wav, .mp3, .ogg or whatever:icon_excl

If i'm going to make the movie, some things i want are:

A mod that puts the F-14 model over the SU-33 AFM (so i can land and take off from carrier and operate the hook). Oh btw, is it really possible to land on the US carrier at all? Or do i have to let the AI do that? No big deal if the AI does it, the movie will be external views only i bet....maybe, just MAYBE some HUD footage, not sure yet.

High-res F-14 skin(s).

Hm, anything else i'd need...?

...and I have to admit, it's one of the very few legendary sims that I did not play :( And when I made the transition to 640x480 and beyond with USNF and then EF2000, there was no going back... pity as from all I've heard, it was truly an in-depth sim.

Oh well, maybe in 2012 or so we'll have a "historic" sim with a flyable Tomcat... :p

No you can land on the US carrier. I did it once with a Su-33.

BTW there are some great high-res F-14 skins on Lockonfiles

The Libya vid is on patrick's site. It skims over the mission quickly with some commentary and a little radio chatters. The visiuals were just put in except for the HUD footage of one of the kills, I think anyway. I could be a target drone kill.

If i'm flying the SU-33, but my external appearence is F-14.....wouldn't that mean that the US carrier would shoot me down? Would look kinda "wrong" in the movie :icon_toil
