xxJohnxx Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Just a short question from a non russian speaker: It looks like the lefthand gun didn't case fiering, which can happen to machine guns. But why did it turn it's cannons arround? Recoil of the gun? And probably the most important question: Did anyone get hurt? The camera man from thr first video looks to be clear of the fiering gun, but the guys on the plattform in the second video look like they are close to getting killed by that thing. Hope it ended well for all of them! Check out my YouTube: xxJohnxx Intel i7 6800k watercooled | ASUS Rampage V Edition 10 | 32 GB RAM | Asus GTX1080 watercooled

dumgrunt Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 i wonder what caused it? a runnaway gun on a machine gun is generally when the sear gets stuck downwards, hence the breech block will just keep chambering rounds. all cannons that I know of fire from a closed breach. the drill is keep the weapon pointed at the target and get the no2 to cut the ammo belt. obviously didnt happen here. its scary enough on Mag58, f*** that on a 30mm! OutOnTheOP Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 (edited) i wonder what caused it? a runnaway gun on a machine gun is generally when the sear gets stuck downwards, hence the breech block will just keep chambering rounds. all cannons that I know of fire from a closed breach. the drill is keep the weapon pointed at the target and get the no2 to cut the ammo belt. obviously didnt happen here. its scary enough on Mag58, f*** that on a 30mm! Problem is, I'm pretty sure the turret crew doesn't have access to the ammunition. At least, I know they don't on the ZSU-23/4, and given that open storage of ammo in crew compartments is avoided to reduce the chance of explosion and fire when hit, I doubt the 2S6 has the ammo where the crew can get to it. I'm not even certain it's belted at all; I think it runs on a linkless feed system (like the GAU-8 ). It doesn't look like a simple gun malfunction to me- that one gun doesn't have the recoil to push the turret around like that. More likely, there was something wrong with the tracking software, it went into automated mode, and THOUGHT it was engaging a moving aerial target. Heck from my experience with portable counterfire radars, they'll track birds- and even generate ballistic solutions for them! *edit* ok, after another look, the radar wasn't turning when it went nuts, so maybe it wasn't tracking anything that way... but it still looks like a fire control malfunction to me Edited December 8, 2013 by OutOnTheOP
sobek Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 what did the driver say? There's a high propability you'll get banned for posting it here. ;) Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
maturin Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 There's a high propability you'll get banned for posting it here. ;) Actually, no. Completely clean, which tells you how extraordinary a situation it is. Вот это да! Semi-literally, "well yes to that." Not really sure how you'd translate it. Anyways, I'm completely in stitches. Such a sarcastic, sangfroid reaction from the peanut gallery. Much love, Rossiya. Also, the video is called 'Tunguska almost kills everyone,' so everyone's probably ok. It's not like you can get away with a flesh wound after several hundred 30mm HE rounds hit your car. 1
sobek Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Much love, Rossiya. I'm not sure why you would make this a matter of nationality. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
maturin Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Positive comments about countries are off-limits now?
Milli Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 I had to google "sangfroid". I like that word. I've now added it to my vocabulary. Thanks. Regards, Milli
Griffin Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 "Vot eto da!" is a normal expression of awe. "That was quite something" would be quite close in English. He does swear too, just some generic Russian naughty words.
sobek Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Positive comments about countries are off-limits now? What are you on about? Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!

Silver_Dragon Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I think that is some type of malfunction on loading ammo system.... very terrorific. Trooper117 Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Don't know anything about the gun system on that vehicle... but if the gun system has a gyro stabiliser built into it and it then has a malfunction (example, metadynes start to slow down) the whole thing can have a mind of its own. Happened to me when gunning for my boss in an MBT and the GUE cut out. The system started to wind down and with full demand 'right' on the guns duplex controller, it went 'left' instead and the gun (120mm) with a live round in it flew out of the safety arc and everyone went mad!... lol! :)
