Quick and dirty Afghanistan style repint of DCS world.

Problem is that this sand texture is already at 4096 x 4096 and the only way to make it sharper is to either increase the repetition which leads to tiling at higher altitudes or to increase the texture size to 8192 x 8192 and then you hit compatibility issues with older generation graphics cards....

Correct. This only modifies your textures that you see personally. It doesn't affect the units in the game, it doesn't change anything about a mission, and it doesn't need to be installed on a server to work.

The only reason that anybody else other than you needs to install this mod is so that when they look out of their canopy, they see the same awesome view as you :)

And yes, the trees are fixed

thx to others and you for reply... will try this awesome work soon.

with this mod FPS should be even higher like stock DCS terrain !

just sand and some palms sounds very FPS friendly :-)

I'm wondering about one thing, if you have the old beta Nevada map.

There when you are getting close to the ground, the texture changes to a very high quality ground. In fact an absolutely stunning one.

And with a bit more altitude it gradually gets into a general sandytexture like this mod.

I know it's a whole other story there. Still it's a pleasant idea for a dreamer:music_whistling:

Here are the 2 shots:

Iirc the current Georgia map has the same.. The higher, the less detailed textures. Atleast it looks like that but that might be my graphic settings?

My point being, if the current map has it too I don't see a reason why ot wouldn't work the modified desert textures...?

There is a low altitude noise file. If you can get me that first texture file (not a screen shot of it) I'll look at incorporating it.

Also, further updates to the fields so in general there are less of them... I tried and tried to get the circular irrigation fields in, but the size and shape of the fields in DCS is just too irregular to get them to work. I've also aligned a few of the trees that were not quite right.

The fields you are seeing in these shots are from satellite imagery from about 100km South of Riyadh

Highwayman/Stratos if you make any changes please remember to upload the individual changed files for those people who don't want to download the entire mod again.

Version 1 -> Version 2 patch

Install this over the existing files in the Mod folder in JSGME. The folder structure is identical, so just extract it to the main JSGME folder and you should get prompted to overwrite the existing files.

Thanks highwayman. So you've updated the texture to the one in your post above?

Quick and dirty Afghanistan style repint of DCS world.

What is currently the limiting factor preventing people from making a new seperate area next to Georgia?

EDIT: Nvm, it seems somehow to be hard locked by ED currently.

Yes, plus I've changed the fields to those on page 8 and straightened out a few trees that were not aligned correctly

To go with the Desert Terrain, I've started re-skinning Beczl's excellent Vehicle add on pack. I hope to have it ready for download over the weekend!

Looks great! Are you reskinning the custom vehicles or the default ones as well?

Only the custom vehicle pack for now, I haven't actually flown over this terrain myself yet, only viewed it with AI, so I'm going to post this pack up tomorrow and get some stick time in before looking at any stock vehicle repaints.
