Help please, Patriot STR killed me, AGAIN.

Hey there guys,

 

I've been flying on the maps in Multiplayer mode, taking the SU-27 starting at Novo.

On my way to Soshi, I have no troubles, land successfully and refuel. On my next trip to Batumi same thing I landed, refueled and all went fine.

 

But after I take off from Batumi, fly heading 050, climbing 32.000ft I get locked on. The first missile I managed to dodge and once I reached 30.000ft + I STILL get locked on. Getting blown away EVERY TIME...

It then says: Patriot STR killed <<Player>>. THE Fudge!!!

 

Refueling, flying, landing and all that takes quite a bit of time. QUITE ANNOYING seeing it wasted 50nm away from destination.

 

Could anyone enlighten me? The origin, the how's and the why's? Possibly how to dodge these situations? It's really frustrating..

Patriots is a long range Air defence. You should see the Manual at the RU RWR and see which is the Long range Air defence Signal.

 

With a Su-27 you have not much to do against a Patriot. You should avoid the Patriot position flaying low and never heading his Position. wait till your RWR get 3/4 of signal power, then start avoiding the position leaving him at your 10 or 2 a clock

Thanks Pepin!! Ugh, is there a way to spot them on the map? Like most units I can click on them, it shows me life and reach.

It'd make it a lot easier to avoid these patriots.. Do they have a specific symbol? Or name?

 

Flying low you mean they can't detect below a certain altitude? How high is that?

 

If I put him on 10 or 2'o clock though wouldn't that indirectly be heading towards him? :/

Use your RWR - will tell you a lot.

Ideally you want him on your 3/9 line.

Actually that Patriot in DCS is in carebear-mode, compared to the real one. But yeah, it's a tough thing, and the tactics mentioned by the other guys work comparatively well.

Terrain masking, terrain masking, terrain masking. That missile can't hit you if there's a mountain between you and it. The same logic applies to helicopters, but if you're ever taking on a Patriot missile system in the Ka-50 then something is SERIOUSLY wrong

Jep, that's the point. They force you down to Manpad and SAF level. :)
