TARS was super easy and quick to get to work, Aeries on the other hand didn't work and even crashed my game also doesn't have radio degradation.

So if you ask me TARS all the way, what problems are you running into? Because it has always worked perfectly for me back when I used it a bunch.

TARS all the way. I don't need another ingame menue, so TARS is my first choice.

paulkrii, I'd like to know how you use TARS if you haven't had any problems with it. On our regular squad nights (mostly 10+ people) it is always a mess using TARS (and Aries)...

With TARS, you just have to guess, or kill immersion by assigning speakers to radio's.

You do know the real radios in the A-10C are the same right? I'm guessing no from your statement.

As to assigning radios to speakers, although it's likely to get killed because the fleet will likely be in the boneyard within 2 years we actually had an upcoming TCTO to allow pilots to do to just that, assign which ear(s) the specific radios would come from.

Luck I guess. I've been using TARS for 3 years now, occasionally had issues but the majority of the time it's been stable and good to go.

IMO I wish ED would incorporate VOIP to make all radios in the sim operate realistically but I don't see that happening.

RagnarDa, can you confirm my claim Aries is more stable than TARS?

Obviously this is like playstation vs xbox in that you're mind is set up and no one can agree. Mine isn't but again we haven't had issues with TARS in the 476th so we're not changing. Now, if we are forced by out TS3 server to move to the latest version well then we'll have to figure something out since TARS hasn't been updated to work with the latest TS3.

Also, I would have loved to see more functions come out for TARS as was outlined a few years ago but that hasn't happened for one reason or another.

I can confirm that we had lots of problems with both systems.

If you are claiming the real radio's in the A10 also split up radio's to the helmet's speakers, I don't believe you. What do you mean the A-10's radio's are the same???

I'm saying it was a planned TCTO, not how our radios work presently. But you believe what you want. By "radios are the same" you have no way currently in the A-10C to know what radio is being broadcasting on unless they tell you.

Anyways, you're hell bent on making TARS sound worse than it is and I'm just gonna leave you with it.

@Paulrkii,

the only reason why TARS MIGHT be working for you guys is using an older TS3. Because believe me, with the latest TS3, TARS is crap as hell.

LOL...we're one version behind not 20 years old. And it's been stated by the developer of TARS that it will not work at all with the latest version.

Is by any chance the reason you're using an old version of TS the stability of TARS?

No only because TARS does not work on the latest version per the below post.

http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1892226&postcount=1106

Important Update (and part of the reason I've seemed a bit incommunicado):

TS has removed DirectInput from its latest release, so the entire input scheme for the TARS application is being converted. For the time being, don't update your TS if you want to use the multiple-PTT features of TARS. I'll get you an updated version as soon as I can.

TS' developers have stated in the past that DI would be removed, but there wasn't much warning that it would be so soon. Of course that's what everyone is saying, but we shouldn't have taken it for granted. We'll be up and running with a solution before much longer, so don't worry.

It will, there's just no guarantee that you'll always be able to get input if you deactivate/reactivate the plugin until changes are made. The same goes for changing TS3 settings while the plugin is turned on. Disconnecting and reconnecting to the server seems to resolve it for the time being, but that's not a permanent solution. Right now I'm having users run a test (see the TARS thread) to see how much functionality is lost, so that we know what' s going on.

The latest release impacted any TS3 plugin that took advantage of DirectInput.

If you're having stability issues with the software there are very clear instructions on how to submit a crash report, on the TARS website, so that it can be reproduced and investigated. I haven't received one of those in months. Nebulous reports of "instability" without any concrete description of what's going on are of absolutely no use.

I would estimate that around 70% of the time people report it not working, it ends up being one or two people (in say, a group of 4-6 individuals) who have something misconfigured. This makes it seem like it's not working for anyone. That's why it's critically important that you keep logs if you think you've found a bug and you want us to look into it. Sometimes it turns out that there is a bug, and having the logs allows the bug to be reproduced.

Do you think you could go over setup from start to finish? i seemed to have missed something and i cant get it to work.

I have tried several times.

In tars everything checks out and is green/installed. TS just wont pick it up. always says TARS not running.

What version of TS are you on?

Does this need to be installed on the server?

Don't install the geforce experience if you're running an nvidia card. Run TS version 3.0.12. I had an issue yesterday where my PTT buttons wouldn't work though until I relaunched DCS and restarted the plugin. In all fairness I've had several issues with TARS before and I can see why others don't use it but being in the 476th, it's mandatory.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's an awesome piece of software and really adds to the realism but it can be a right PITA to get set up and running correctly.

As a niche, 3rd party add on though, within the already niche combat flight sim market, I don't think support is ever going to be that great for it.

I uninstalled Nvidia experience and am still not getting things working.
