Vekkinho Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 What do you say which is better of FC2.0 and other DCS modules: CPU INTEL Core i5 670 BOX, s. 1156, 3.46MHz, 4MB cache, 64 bit, GPU, Dual Core orCPU INTEL Core i7 860 BOX, s. 1156, 2,8GHz, 8MB c., 64 bit, QuadCore I say i5 670 but those cache capacities are twice lower than with i7 860, what's better for LOFC2.0 and does cache really matter? Distiler Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 You might want to check i5 7xx, those are 4 core cpu, 8MB of chache, cheaper than i7 but without multithreading (not that you'll be using that much...). Also, as far as I know, new i5 and i7 automatically overclock cores in use when there are cores not used, so it might be similar perfomance that a 2 core cpu with higher stock mhz (DCS, as it is now, uses 2 cores) AMD Ryzen 1400 // 16 GB DDR4 2933Mhz // Nvidia 1060 6GB // W10 64bit // Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2
Vekkinho Posted March 14, 2010 Author Posted March 14, 2010 Yes I was thinking of i7 7XX but trouble is there's very limited range of available CPUs in Croatia during last year and a half! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Vekkinho Posted March 15, 2010 Author Posted March 15, 2010 i7 860 then overclock Hmmm...I thought i5 with its stock 3.46Ghz clock has more thrust than i7 860 @2.8  I guess cache capacity matters for DCS engine, right? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
4c Hajduk Veljko Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Hi Vekkinho, Here's the link that may help you deciding which CPU would be better for you. Kuky Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Vekkinho, cache does make difference indeed... the clock speed might compensate for the i5 but if you can get any near clock on the i7 by overclocking that'sa better deal if you ask me. Those i5 vs i7 is something like old Celeron vs Pentium CPU's No longer active in DCS...
Pilotasso Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 bear in mind gaming perfomance in most reviews is restricted to FPS's almost exclusively, which being graphics limitated are poor measurements for CPU's perfomance. 1 .
Konovalov Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 i5-750, i7-860 or i7-930 would be my three choices depending on budget and overclock the buggery out of them to +4 Ghz. Infiniti3d Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 The i5 and i7 8xx have a Hypertransport bus of 2500 MT/S ( megatransfer per second) i7 9XX have HT bus of 4800 MT/S. The Bloomfield CPU's are the fastest and more expasive ofcourse. Lynfield, i7 8xx and i5 7XX have 4X256kb L2 or 2X256kb L2 Cache. Also the i7 8XX and 9XX have 8MB L3 cache while i5 has only 4 mb L3 cache. Most info is meaningless, so ist good to read some reviews and compare the CPU's, plenty out there:thumbup:
