  2. What is LEAVU2? Lockon External Avionics Upgrade 2.0 is a mod being developed for Fc2 LEAVU2 is a software package written in JAVA designed to be used for displaying interactive cockpit flight instruments and ingame data on external screens. OpenGL is used to render LEAVU2 2D and 3D instruments, and keyboard and mouse input is captured to allow for interactive user input. Touch screens are also fully supported, as is running the software on multiple separate computers connecting to the same game computer. ( Thank you Schizwiz for making the video! ) LEAVU2 aims to provide a high performance and low cpu usage solution for displaying these instruments realtime, at high enough framerates such that they will be performance wise indistinguishable from ingame instruments when playing. Data is sent from lockon to LEAVU2 over maintained tcp connections at high update rates, and there is support for multiple display computers connecting to the same game computer. If a connection is lost at any time, LEAVU2 will automatically try to repair that connection. One example is for example when restarting missions. There are also thoughts for supporting data input into the sim from LEAVU2 through lua commands directly to lockon, but that is currently not implemented. LEAVU2 has support for any touch screen or normal screens. Cockpit instruments can be drawn both with a GUI ( buttons etc ) and window frame, or if preferred, as a pure OpenGL display. Each display and instrument can also optionally support mouse and/or keyboard input directly, which can allow you to build a physical cockpit setup around them. Development Development of LEAVU is open source and source code is available at: http://kenai.com/projects/leavu2 Right now I'm looking for help in drawing 3d models for cockpit gauges and texturing these models. If you want to contribute to the leavu project we would appreciate all help, remember this project is fully open for anyone to view or contribute to, and it doesnt cost anything. Installation and download links Current version Leavu 2.2010.03.25 available at http://yoda.reservoirselite.com/YoPack/ Currently only manual installation available. An installer program might be created later if there is a lot of interest. Operating systems supported I have confirmed full functionality on these OSes : WinXp32 Win7 pro 32 Win7 pro 64 currently keyboard input is not supported under linux. Current projects * LEAVU steam gauges and other analogue instruments ( on pause ). At this point only has one working instrument, one half finished ADI and waiting to find people who want to model more. * LEAVU F-1x MFD project. By Yoda, GrayGhost, Moa and Hannibal This project aims to provide a mix of F-16/F-15 style MFD for the lockon F-15. Given the F-15 MPCD being very classified, and we only have a few pictures of its navigation, weapons and datalink pages, we use the F-16 MLU as a reference. This means we will get a little less powerful MFD/datalink, but this is sufficient for our purposes. We currently have the following interactive MFD pages : HSD, SMS, FCR and RWR * LEAVU datalink, provides data for the MFD project above * LEAVU threat specific TEWS/RWR sounds. Think Falcon4 how it has specific threat sounds depending on what threat type it sees. Leavu2 has this same capability, to replace the ingame RWR sounds with a much wider and realistic variety of threat sounds. You will need to provide the audio files yourself however. If you want to contribute with your own LEAVU module. Then please do so! make it happen :) .

  3. Updated 2009-01-29: Updated list of improvements one can make to improve performance. After reading several threads covering the subject of the performance in DCS Black Shark and never finding a good solution. I decided to make some investigation myself and hopefully clear things up. Scroll down for quick instructions on how to improve your performance/FPS. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Background: The game engine runs in a single thread or at least most of the computer load is placed in only one thread. As I noticed by using Process Explorer (available at Microsoft’s download pages). And in my case and for my friends the game always occupies all the resources of a single core (exactly 50% on a dual core computer and 25% on a quad core) indicating that the CPU is the limiting factor. Changing the affinity of the DCS.exe process in Windows Vista (with the scripts uploaded in another thread and also attached in this thread) the performance (frames per second) increases. The reason for this isn't because it allows the game to use all of the Cores, since it is only one thread and therefore can only use the processing power of one core at the most. Instead it allows TrackIR/Sound and other background tasks to run on a separate part of the CPU, separating the game from the other tasks that isn't in the game. The games performance is clearly limited by the CPU (in most cases where one already have a reasonably good graphics card). By overclocking my CPU from 2.4 GHz to 3.0 GHz, an increase of 25% I could see a very clear and close to 25% performance increase in the game. At the same time changing the graphical settings of the game generates almost no change in performance since that doesn't affect the CPU power needed (unless you boost the graphical settings to something extreme that makes the graphics card the limiting factor). This indicates the game is in desperate need of an update that distributes the CPU load into different threads so that more than 50% (25% on quad core) of the computer power can be used! (which will probably be released with a later version/next release of a module for DCS as mentioned in the faq by ED) -------------------------------------------------------------------- If you are subjected to a limited performance because of your CPU (which you can check by seeing if the DCS.exe process constantly uses 50% on your dual core CPU or 25% on your quad core CPU), you can gain a performance increase by doing the following things: Using the scripts that is attached below that change the affinity of the DCS.exe process. (Works best with Vista and later) Overclocking your CPU which gives a proportionally large performance increase (only if you know what you are doing!) Getting a new CPU that has greater processing power per Core. :music_whistling: New Stuff 2009-01-29: Reducing Shadows to Active Planar instead of Full gives me a few extra FPS Reducing Water reflection to Normal instead of High gives me a few extra FPS Playing in full screen instead of windowed (which i usually do in games) gives me an 15-20 FPS boost (even though full screen is at a higher resolution than windowed) (If you know something else or have another affinity script etc. let me know and I will update this post!) -------------------------------------------------------------------- Use any of these scripts improve performance (only for Vista or W7 since on WinXP it doesn't gives any performance increase) I would recommend Jesses's program since it is most user friendly: wombat778's script (DSCAff.zip): Step 1: Extract the contents of DSCAFF.zip into your Eagle Dynamics\KA-50 folder. Step 2: Go to the properties of your Black Shark shortcut and change the Target to the appropriate script/bat file (e.g., use a 4 core script if you have 4 cores, an i7 script if you have an i7 processor, an SP script for single player, etc). Step 3: Launch Black Shark using the shortcut. About 30 seconds after getting into a mission, you should see a big FPS improvement if using Vista. MidSilence's script (DCSAFF.rar): This is an application that MidSilence made which sets the affinity on DCS.exe to all processor available in the system. You need to be an administrator. (Run the script in the background while starting the game) Jesse's program (easiest and most nice looking) Download here http://code.google.com/p/dcsbsaffinitytool/ -------------------------------------------------------------------- My computer specifications: Intel E6600 2.4 Ghz (OC @ 3.0 Ghz) 6 GiB RAM Geforce 8800 GTS 640 MiB Windows Vista Business -------------------------------------------------------------------- DSCAff.zip DCSAFF.rar

  4. The Virtual Patriots Jet Demonstration Team was started in the fall of 2008. In 2009 the team has grown to a full diamond and 2 other support members. The mission of the Virtual Patriots is to faithfully and accurately replicate the demonstration flown by the Fry's Electronics Patriots Jet Team based in Byron, California. Their 4-ship L-39 demo is fast paced with constant action from beginning to end, and we aim to make it even more exciting. We provide the real team with ideas for new maneuvers and are working on new show music for their routine and possibly a new routine itself for the 2010 show season! Taking us under their wing, the Patriots Jet Team have integrated us as an official part of their team and we continue to work together to better the real and virtual flying experience. More opportunities to work with the real team will be revealed as time goes on, but back to the virtual aspect of our team. The pilots for this year's demo team are as follows: #1 Boss - Sien 'Sinister' Pileggi #2 Right Wing - Anthony 'Blaze' Echavarria #3 Left Wing - Ian 'Burner' Roberts #4 Slot - Travis 'Bow' Munoz #5 Lead Solo/Backup Boss - Chris 'STRIKER' Curtis #8 Public Affairs - Mike 'Cinch' Perry Our website is not currently finished yet and will be released along with the real teams new site, but our forums are up and running, http://www.virtualpatriots.com/forum. We encourage you all to come over and join us, and if you have any questions or comments for the virtual or the real Patriots, or wish to inquire about trying out for the team, we'll be happy to answer any questions you may have. More information about the real Patriots Jet Team can also be found at: Airshows America & Patriots Jet Team Patriot Jet Team Ventrilo: dfw04.hurricanehost.com / port 4500 With that said, I present the 2009 Virtual Patriots Jet Demonstration Team! 2009 Promo Video Watch in HD on Watch in HD on Vimeo Smoke On, Blaze

  6. Just dont hover within range of them and dont fly straight and level towards them when within range of their weapons, if you dont have any missiles left and only have rockets and your going up against tanks, go high and at the last minute swoop down and fire and then break away and you should be alright aslong as you are at a higher angle than they can raise their cannon at you when within range. flying across the front of them whilst making random turns is also a good idea if you are within range of their weapons, but whatever you do, do not fly straight towards them and at an angle that their maingun can sight you, if you do chances are you get to eat 120mm of lead/brass/explosives and you wont even know you got hit. As for tank AA machine gun fire, well I tend to find that it isnt really a threat that much, it can kill you, but if you fly it right the chances are it wont hit you at all. A quick test is to load up the Battle mission and then just fly and dodge all the machine gun fire, it is easy enough and thats on a huge scale which you arent going to face every flight, so if you can master that then you can be pretty sure that you will survive going up against just a few tanks. The 2 side wings on the leopard are basically extra armour and they should NOT be open in this game, as they are only meant to be opened when doing maintenance and needing access to below the panels, they swivel to allow access so that they dont need to be removed completely, so in this sim they should not be opened and if I recall I think in the upcoming patch its fixed.

  7. This aircraft is really great. I started on an Romanian Air Force Lancer Skin today and it turned out pretty good. Some tweaking still to be done. I will upload the template "made by beczl " as soon as the mod is released. I plan to make some more skins and release a skinpack after the initial release. here are some screens. And now i need to sleep, I have work tomorrow :( . BW Shaggy

  15. Last weekend, Volkel Airbase opened its gates for the annual RNLAF Open Days. This year I was one of 400 fortunate spotters who were allowed on-base on Thursday, the main arrival day. Below is a small impression of the spotters day: C-160 Transall of the Turkish Stars, with a USAF C-17A in the background Full reverse An SH-14D Lynx of the Dutch navy is being placed on the static show, right in front of us "Orange 2", the RNLAF F-16 Demoteam scooter, with the coach 'Bitch' (waving), and pilot 'Sheik' on the back seat The Spanish EF-18A is practicing its display During his high-speed pass, he hit Mach 0.99, resulting in visible shockwaves above the aircraft. Another rare participant to Dutch airshows is this Slovakian L-39ZA Albatross Another addition to the static show: a German Bo-105CB A PC-7 elementary trainer aircraft taxiing towards Hangar 3, the main recruiting place of the Dutch Airforce The new Dutch demo F-16, here with coach 'Omelet' at the controls, on its way to escort the Polish MiG-29UB F-16BM J-066 'Orange Jumper'. This is the most modern F-16 in the Dutch airforce, currently being used for testing the new M5 avionics package. Another highlight at the static line: a Greek F-16D Block 52+, which flew non-stop from its home-base to Volkel. The Polish MiG-29UB has arrived The 'Orange Jumper' on its way to its spot on the static show 'Omelet' laat nog even de bovenkant van de kist zien, voordat hij binnenkomt voor de landing. Before landing, 'Omelet' does a nice knife-edge flyby showing the Dutch Lion on the top of the demo F-16 The Dutch F-16 Demoteam represents KiKa, a foundation to prevent cancer in children. Every spotter entering the airbase donated a small amount of money, which was handed to F-16 demo pilot 'Sheik'. The sign he is holding says: "The participants to the spotters day at Volkel on June 18th, 2009, donate the RNLAF F-16 Display Team on behalf of the KiKa Foundation the amount of 1000 Euros" Another nice Slovakian participant: an Antonov An-26 And yet another helicopter landing in front of us: a Royal Navy Lynx Patrouille de France was nog druk aan het verkennen en oefenen In the afternoon, the Patrouille de France took off to locate landmarks and practice their display. That's it for now, next up: Friday - Airshow Day 1

  16. Cheers everyone. @Topol I cant do anything about point Nr 2 unless I reduce the number of field textures and replace them with a global grass one. That might work so I will give that a go. I understand the problem with the contras, I will mixture with the ammount of fields and try to reduce the colours. I hope you can bare with me for just a little while before I do it, as I have some other stuff going on. But an update should come soon. Thanks for the input :) BW Shaggy

  18. I've noticed that whenever I update my graphics drivers, things that use custom fonts (like my LCD profile on my G15) go all crazy and illegible, and I have to piece them back together again. It's very annoying, but I've never had it happen within an application like you're describing...
