  1. Has anyone got Vaicom working smoothly on the latest stable release? (Just trying to figure out if the issues are fixable or whether we need to wait for a patch)?

  3. Hi, Thanks for that. So it doesn't sound like there will be a 'surprise announcement/release' in the near future - we'll have a bit of a heads up before hand. I'll stop waking up every morning and rushing to my PC to see if it's been released yet like a kid at Christmas time. Cheers
  4. Just wondering what the release protocol is normally like when this is ready. ie: Will it just be announced out of the blue "Available for download" with no notice out of the blue...or will we get upcoming notice that it's likely to be available in 2 weeks, or it's "with ED for testing", etc first?
  5. Thanks GD. That's what I thought. When flying I do set the ball in centre, but I guess the question is where is exact center. As this happens over a period of 10 minutes or so - it's possible that we're not going to be able to see with our eye exactly where 'perfect trim' is setup if this is the actual cause. I was kinda hoping for a "Yeah - it's a balance ball / trim issue, and the way I get around it is yyyy" - but looks like that's not the case and there's no solution - I just need to either find a way to deal with it or get a different helicopter that I can trust to stay on course for those sort of requirements.
  6. Cheers David. Exactly what I needed to see/know. Appreciate it!
  7. Oh -it's not just me then. Good to see. Anyone have a fix for this yet? (I'm assuming we don't have to download a new/updated copy of Vaicom?
  8. Oh flip - when I first read this thread I thought it was about selling DCS out to EA - Electronic Arts, and I thought darn, their goes the planet! It's about early release - phewf.
  9. If I understanding correctly the problem would an acceptable solution to this be that when EA decide to release a new stable release they announce the open beta version number that they’re going to use and delay 2 weeks and then release it. Those wanting it earlier can do a OB update knowing that it will be the next stable release but everyone else has 2 weeks to get their add ons updated to work? (is the problem is unannounced stable release updates?)
  10. Aaah - OK. Going to be slightly hard to justify it as a out-of-sale purchase then for what I'm considering for online use when I already have the Huey. Darn. I'll keep the Gazelle purchase for a sale day for more offline fun, and hang out for the Hind or Kiowa for online MP stuff.
  11. Thanks Gizmokev, Just wondering on it's capabilities at the moment. Does it have the Mistral anti-aircraft missile available to use? Is it capable of transporting cargo? Is the sniper available? Does it have significant speed advantage over the Huey? (What is it's cruise TAS)? I've already got the Huey now which I'm loving off-server just mucking about, and flying by the seat of my pants, so that 'need' is already met. To buy the Gazelle I'm trying to justify it by what I can do with online servers and whether it's going to give me an edge over the Huey. (After all, the Huey was purchased for a different reason - offline 'mucking around' but think with the servers I fly on I'm going to need something a bit more capable than the UH-1 in order to survive). :)
  12. Just curious why you set it in 2 different locations? I was under the impression that these two settings were identical as far as what is done behind the scenes (ie, upping SS to 160 and leaving PD at 0, or increasing PD by a decimal and leaving SS at 0 would be the same as what you're doing above. Or is there something special about mixing the two in that I'm not aware of?
  13. Oh dang - it is a bug then, and not one they're interested in fixing then. Thanks for letting me know - I won't waste my time. Maybe it's time to buy the Gazelle. ;)
  14. Well, after reading the passionate replies I've seen back and forth since posting - I'm having second thoughts.... about waiting that long now that is. ;) While at this stage I still plan on getting it next sale, with all the controversies spoken about this bird - it seems to have brought in the most debated love/hate debates that I've seen, and I'm so tempted to just pull the trigger now and not wait so I can see what all the fuss is about. :book: One question - does it have the Mistral anti-aircraft missile available to use yet, and is it capable of transporting CTLD cargo? After all, who knows how far away the Kiowa is and this sounds like it would fill the waiting gap.
  15. Hmm.. OK. I'll have to keep working on trying to figure it out myself. I'm not sure if it's a bug that should be reported - just trying to figure out if I'm doing something wrong that people know what first. Thanks for the reply
  16. Thank you for posting this! I've been getting into Helo's myself and have been interested in the Gazelle from a 'fly by the seat of your pants' perspective. I've read numerous posts on both sides of the fence, but a testimony from someone who changes sides is worth more than 10 testimonies from people who don't in my opinion (regardless of the side) - simply because it's a human trait to believe and stick with the first thing you believe and argue that point. Not that other testimonies aren't worth considering - they sure are - but changes in mind tend to hold a bit more weight because very few people seem capable and it takes a lot to admit when we're wrong and it normally takes more evidence to change someone's mind than to keep them believing their first impressions. (Hence the saying about first impressions). There's a good chance the Gazelle will be on my list of 'to buys' when the next sale comes up (assuming there will be another sale). Thank you for being humble enough to come on and admit you were wrong!
  17. Sweet. Thanks
  18. I have no idea if this is the cause or not and this is a total guess - but I wonder if there is some 'super sampling' effect coming into play. To explain - in VR - we have a fixed resolution for our headset. However we have an option to 'Super Sample' which as I understand it tells DCS that our headset's resolution is larger than it really is. As a result, the graphics is calculated for a higher resolution display. It is then down-sized to display on our VR's projection. Even though the end result with and without supersampling is the same resolution being projected - there is significant difference in clarity between having native resolution vs a greater resolution (supersampled). I don't fully understand the why's or what black magic is behind this. (It kinda makes sense for 3D objects as they're rendered more accurately and then when downsampled it makes sense that the image would be better.... but for straight text in the cockpit it also makes a significant difference as well). The guess I'm putting forward is that what you're seeing maybe a similar result. That the image being recorded on youtube was done in 4K (thus much greater clarity), and then put back to 1080p - but since it was downsampled and not originally rendered in 1080p it gives greater clarity just like VR SS? I have no idea if this is possible or not, but if you're able to lie to your PC about your monitors resolution, and if your monitor will automatically downscale - maybe you can get better textures by changing your display adapter to a larger resolution to mimick what has happened with the youtube experience (or what we see in VR)?
  19. Thank you! Can anyone control them, or just those with Combined Arms?
  20. Hi Shadow. Thanks for that. So when starting DCS, there is no difference between loading into a server for C.A. vs normal play (if I can call it that)? ie: I can jump into a helicopter on normal play, and then F10 and control units whilst flying that helicopter - or do I need to switch to a different slot (thus losing my spot in the helicopter) in order to control units via F10?
  21. Thanks for that, but the specific reason I would be purchasing it would be to control ground troops in tandem whilst flying in game. I'm sure that CA can be fun on it's own like that - but the need that I have varies considerably. I only need it to work in the F10 view.
  22. Hmm.. didn't think of that. I thought some of the startups wouldn't have key combo's and would require LUA's such as tuning in radio frequencies and values. I'll have to check out how far I can go with key macro's. Thanks for the idea.
  23. I'd be interested to hear the reasons why it was dropped. Always good to hear another side of the story to get a different perspective. I get the unfair penalized if there are dropouts (ISP, or otherwise) that is no fault of the player, and maybe that was the reason - and it was easier to comment out code than it was to deal with the difference between someone returning to a slot vs seeing a connection fully drop. I don't know. I can understand how frustrating it would be though to fight someone, finally have them defensive and then see them disappear on you. I've never had it happen thanks to playing on strict admin'd servers. :-)
  24. Good idea with your ISP - but also check locally as well. If you have antivirus built in with firewall - it may have detected what it considered abnormal activity. If you have a smarter router - same deal. At this stage I think we're beyond the normal easy stuff and it's going to be something wild and whacky - so leave no stone unturned. FWIW - if your friend can get on another ISP (phone hotspot, 'borrow' a neighbours wifi by connecting to their internet temporarily, or take his PC to a friends place, etc - that will help 'rule out' or narrow down a lot of possibilities without having to go through them one by one. I would start by considering 4 areas: 1) His PC 2) His network / ISP 3) Your network / ISP 4) Your PC Do your best to knock out each area as best you can to narrow it down. If he can connect via someone elses internet connection, that rules out (1), (3) and (4) and focuses only on (2). Alternatively if it also fails then it narrows it down to (1) really. Good luck with it!
  25. Whoa there? This is the first I've heard that SSAA is better than MSAA. I always thought it was the other way around? It provides more clarity + AA than MSAA on the HP Reverb? :shocking:
