BTW, it does this whether I use VR or Track IR

When I launch DCS, 3 out of 4 times it brings up the Splash screen, then does nothing. I'll wait for 5-10 minutes sometimes, but nothing happens. DCS shows in task manager but it's not creating any load, and that's it. So, I'll kill it then try again, and again, and eventually, it starts up. It's like there's some weird race condition or something that makes launching the game a type of roulette. Logs are of no help unfortunately. Unless the negative one's are diagnostic. === Log opened UTC 2020-07-06 05:41:02 2020-07-06 05:41:02.756 INFO DCS: Command line: "C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\bin\DCS.exe" --force_disable_VR 2020-07-06 05:41:02.756 INFO DCS: DCS/2.5.6.50979 (x86_64; Windows NT 10.0.18363) 2020-07-06 05:41:02.756 INFO DCS: DCS revision: 170977 2020-07-06 05:41:02.756 INFO DCS: Renderer revision: 20606 2020-07-06 05:41:02.756 INFO DCS: Terrain revision: 20611 2020-07-06 05:41:02.756 INFO DCS: CPU cores: 8, threads: 16, System RAM: 65446 MB, Pagefile: 0 MB 2020-07-06 05:41:02.902 INFO EDCORE: (dDispatcher)enterToState_:0 2020-07-06 05:41:02.907 INFO Dispatcher: 2020/7/5 22:41 V1803061700 2020-07-06 05:41:02.924 INFO INPUT: Device [Keyboard] created deviceId = -1 2020-07-06 05:41:02.927 INFO INPUT: Device [F16 MFD 1 {FD68A650-4940-11ea-8001-444553540000}] created deviceId = -1 2020-07-06 05:41:02.927 INFO INPUT: Joystick created[F16 MFD 1 {FD68A650-4940-11ea-8001-444553540000}], ForceFeedBack: no 2020-07-06 05:41:02.933 INFO INPUT: Device [Throttle - HOTAS Warthog {5868FB40-00E4-11ea-8001-444553540000}] created deviceId = -1 2020-07-06 05:41:02.933 INFO INPUT: Joystick created[Throttle - HOTAS Warthog {5868FB40-00E4-11ea-8001-444553540000}], ForceFeedBack: no 2020-07-06 05:41:02.940 INFO INPUT: Device [Joystick - HOTAS Warthog {BC60AE20-FDA3-11e9-8001-444553540000}] created deviceId = -1 2020-07-06 05:41:02.940 INFO INPUT: Joystick created[Joystick - HOTAS Warthog {BC60AE20-FDA3-11e9-8001-444553540000}], ForceFeedBack: no 2020-07-06 05:41:02.941 INFO INPUT: Device [F16 MFD 2 {08B20DD0-4941-11ea-8002-444553540000}] created deviceId = -1 2020-07-06 05:41:02.941 INFO INPUT: Joystick created[F16 MFD 2 {08B20DD0-4941-11ea-8002-444553540000}], ForceFeedBack: no 2020-07-06 05:41:03.078 INFO INPUT: Device [Thrustmaster T300RS Racing Wheel {A78D6780-FCF5-11e9-8001-444553540000}] created deviceId = -1 2020-07-06 05:41:03.082 INFO INPUT: Joystick created[Thrustmaster T300RS Racing Wheel {A78D6780-FCF5-11e9-8001-444553540000}], ForceFeedBack: yes, guidFFDriver: {7EC33D90-19CE-434e-8061-E2F879E204DE} 2020-07-06 05:41:03.083 INFO INPUT: Device [TPR T.Pendular Rudder {7A6B9B10-12E3-11ea-8001-444553540000}] created deviceId = -1 2020-07-06 05:41:03.083 INFO INPUT: Joystick created[TPR T.Pendular Rudder {7A6B9B10-12E3-11ea-8001-444553540000}], ForceFeedBack: no 2020-07-06 05:41:03.093 INFO INPUT: Device [Mouse] created deviceId = -1 2020-07-06 05:41:03.131 INFO SOUND: Using driver: wasapi (just waits here forever) Specs: i9-9900K 64GB DDR4 2080Ti 11GB ASUS Hero XI Wi-Fi 1TB Samsung EVO Plus NVME Drive + 4TB Spinner (ALL DCS stuff on nvme) Hotas Warthog + Throttle + TPR Pedals + 2MFD Pack from TM I buy my stuff directly from ED and not Steam (although Steam is installed)m and don't have Steam running when I use DCS. Whenever I say "flying", I mean virtually in DCS ... that's my frame of reference so if it's different in real life, well, I wouldn't know. That said, I was surprised when I fired up the F-16, loaded it up with weapons, then took to the skies. It feels a lot like the Hornet when weighed down. I have to get the thing naked before it feels like the bat out of hell that everyone talks about. That's what caused be to look at the T/W numbers, and see how close they were. But Bunny is right, who knows what they are at the moment you're throwing it into burner?

Makes sense. Thanks!

Reheat. I just took the empty jet weight, added fuel and pilot: Empty Weight: 23K lb Engines: 2 x 17,750lb wet (11K dry) = 35,500lbs 35,500 / (23,000 + 6200) = 1.215 Military power in the same situation would be 0.75

Actually, a clean hornet with 6k lbs fuel and 200 lb pilot comes in at 1.21

I read somewhere during my internet travels that guns in the DCS F/A-18 were gimped for national security or something to that effect (I believe it was a comment on a YouTube video). As one who particularly enjoys 1v1 guns dogfights in the 18 ... does anyone know: 1) If this is even true? 2) If so, to what extent they are made inaccurate? (if known) Honestly, it seems unlikely that anyone with access to a genuine F/A-18 would pose a greater risk because the guns in DCS are accurate. The guns sensor already gives you a "shoot" cue, so even if the one in DCS is wrong, the real one will be right. I'm leaning toward it being typical YouTube BS. On a somewhat related note, I think the F/A-18 is a very underrated dogfighter. The high AOA ability is downright deadly in the hands of someone that knows how to use it. Everyone always squawks about how it's inferior to the F-16 and F-15 for dogfighting, but I think it's competent against both. A guns-only F/A-18 is downright nimble. It definitely lacks the raw thrust of the 15 and 16, though, and gets dicey when the other two go into the vertical, but it's not a sitting duck by any means. Which brings me to my last question ... 3) why does the F/A-18 seem to be so perceptibly under powered compared to the other two? On paper, the difference doesn't seem massive. I've seen various sources with wildly different T/W stats, so I'll just use Wikipedia's numbers. F/A-18 Thrust/Weight: 0.96 (1.13 with loaded weight at 50% internal fuel) F-16 T/W: .095 (1.24 with loaded weight & 50% internal fuel) F-15 T/W: 1.07 (1.26 with loaded weight and 50% internal fuel) A difference, sure, but all planes a bit above 1.0 by the time they merge, with a ~0.1 advantage to the 15 and 16. Are the T/W numbers that float around just off?

Woot, perfect timing. I pulled the trigger and licensed it.

My 2.5 Cents I love DCS and I try to spend money with ED as much as possible. I've spent a couple hundred this year, and it's been worth every penny. These guys deserve to be financially successful, no doubt. Please realize that it has nothing to do with ED when I say that I hate, loathe, abhor, and regurgitate at the word "subscription". You're talking to a population, at least some of us (I can't speak for everyone), that comes "pre-abused" by this wretched bandwagon-jumping bastard child birthed by the unholy bastions of evil that are Adobe, Apple, and Sploogle. Probably 70% of applications that I paid for, in full, have gone subscription, some literally months after I purchased them. To be fair, it's not like I got nothing for them transitioning, for I got the company's collective middle-fingers shoved directly up my ... it's not important. And how many of the supposed benefits that subscriptions were supposed to bring, actually materialized? For the consumer, not many. If anything they are even buggier and less supported than they were before I started renting them instead of owning them. In fact, I hereby propose replacing the term "F**k You" with "Subscription" since they more or less mean the same thing in the 2020 USA. Bottom line, I love ED, and would be glad to buy more modules and show my support by spending more, but I would rather light my scrotum on fire and be given a bottle of kerosene to put it out than rent even more of my software. I've cancelled most of the other things that went subscription and learned to live without them. I couldn't do that with DCS, and would be forced to pay it if you ended up going this way, but I'd be an even more bitter, more angry person than I am now. Assuming that's possible.

There are a few visuals I’d love to see at some point. I know they would be in the far distant future, but they’d be cool: - The parting water effect when you fly 10 feet above the water surface - Mach vapor cone that forms when you’re crossing the sound barrier at some altitudes - denser condensation a/la the F-16 module I love pulling high-alpha maneuvers and generating massive amounts of condensation.

I’ve been using the demo of this for the past week. I’m really impressed with it. Nice work. As an individual user, the highest level I would conceivably need is Advanced, correct? The Enterprise version is mainly for teams and multiple users?

I just tried my first air refueling missions today, in a couple of different planes. Hole Eeeeee Shhhhhhh ... yeah I never thought it would be that hard. While I get that there is wake turbulence, we are offset from the tanker by, what, 30 feet or so. It almost feels like it would be easier in a shallow descent to stay out of the tanker's wake. Question, does anyone use auto-throttle, altitude-hold, or any other auto-pilots during fueling?
-
Do not, I repeat, DO NOT use the Piddle Pack from within VR. You're just going to have to trust me on this one. On a completely unrelated note, can anyone recommend a good chair for DCS? It's about time for me to get a new one.
-
I couldn’t see it either until I realized I had to be in the Beta version. You’re using that, right?
-
How much fuel are you carrying? I failed the first 10 times until I realized that I was trying to land with 9,000lbs of fuel.
-
Seriously, though, if: - a nuclear war ever wipes out 99.99% of the world's population and -the handful of remaining Americans need to use our salvaged inventory of F/A-18s to hold off the inevitable Mad-Max-style invasions from what remains of Canadians When whoever is leader at that time asks, "can anyone here fly a fighter jet?" I'm so raising my hand.

They hand-signal me into the catapult, I don't even need to press F2 anymore to get lined up! Once I'm there, the shooter routines are bad as a [person who has carnal relations with their maternal parent]! I gotta be honest, it's better than I expected. Finally, I'm a real Navy pilot. I said, I'm a REAL NAVY PILOT. :music_whistling:

Can someone help.me.settle.the burner on takeoff debate
Rex replied to Sublimearrepentido's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Hey man, I enjoyed reading it. OP is being a little rude. God forbid you're not all singularly focused on convincing some a-hole of that he's wrong, and not all thoughts need their own discrete thread. I'd say this was related enough. OP, nobody owes you anything, take what you can get. use it or don't, and be grateful. You don't have to tell people every time their post doesn't provide you with exactly what you want. Other people are in the forms too and maybe we get something out of it. I can't believe you got as many replies as you did. If some Internet A-hole insisted that F14s were powered by unicorn farts, I struggle to understand why anyone would give a damn. You're trying to win an Internet debate, but they're usually are no winners in Internet debates. I've got an answer for you, and it's as good as any you've gotten. Tell him: "You know, I thought otherwise but I guess I was wrong. Thanks for the correction." Then, go do something you enjoy, content in the knowledge that dude is wrong and it will likely eventually embarrass him. Being corrected is a gift. If dude slaps it out of your hand, don't try to get him a better gift. Shrug and walk away. Quora is a business which makes money on content other people give them for free. Let them hire their own fact-checkers to do QA, it's not your obligation.
