  1. So without any allied radar/range finder, am correct in stating that allied heavy flak is currently not functional?
  2. My flight goes right past them and the cannons will wake up and follow the planes but never fire a shell. I have set the min-max altitude band so that my flight goes right through it. I have also tried setting alarm state red, weapons free, engage air weapons, maximum intercept distance, and combinations of all those options too. Nothing works. The guns don't fire. The guns are QF 3.7" if that helps and I want them to fire at passing Ju88 bombers. Does anyone know what the problem is?
  3. I'm not playing very competitively, so ideally I'd like the settings balance to lean more toward quality than performance, within reason of course. My current rig is an i7-7700k and a GTX 1080. I get decent performance right now (again, non-VR), but hoped to get some community input on what settings others are running with the gear mentioned in the title. Screenshots would be great! Thanks all.
  4. I disagree. You can definitely kill an AI bandit at that range pretty often with a 120C if both of you are high and fast. Much more often than you'd expect a half court shot to go in, to use the bball analogy. Especially firing TWS, because they now won't even try to defend until the missile goes active and they get the RWR warning. Against a human pilot, yes, your chances of getting a kill from a 30 mile launch are very low. That still isn't a wasted missile though, because you most likely launched it with the intent of putting him in a defensive posture, not assuming it will actually connect and kill him.
  5. Looks pretty strange when small caliber rounds hitting the ground send a plume of dust 30 feet in the air. Seems like this would be a fairly simple thing to implement.

  6. Hi all, quick question about cruising in the F/A-18. When I fly air to air PVP, I generally load out with 2 fuel tanks, 6 AIM120s and 2 AIM9s. With this loadout, what is the best altitude and speed to cruise at? I would like to arrive in the combat zone with an altitude advantage, if possible, for BVR engagements, but if I try to cruise at anything above around 35k feet, I find myself needing to use the afterburner to stay in level flight... Even at full mil power, I lose speed and the nose slowly pitches up. Is this just a limitation of the Hornet or am I doing something wrong? How do you guys like to cruise long distance without wasting fuel on the afterburner and staying as fast and high as possible upon your arrival to the AO?
  7. Gamma is at 2. Not sure what the problem was but simply restarting DCS seems to have fixed the issue. I can see now. Weird.
  8. The mod looks great during the day, but if I fly a night mission its too dark to see anything in the cockpit of the F18. All switches and MFDs are very dark even at max brightness and floodlights on. I am also noticing that city lights are extremely dim. Anyone else have this issue? This is the only mod I have installed.
  9. I agree and I am very surprised to see that there are people here arguing that the water looks better now than it did before. The ocean looks like a giant, stagnant pond. No whitecaps visible at altitude even if you crank the wind way up... Also the ocean is way too reflective near the horizon. Looking at the real ocean, the water usually appears matte at a distance, not like a giant mirror. 2.7 visuals look much better overall, except for this one aspect, in my opinion.
  10. If you think the AA radar is functioning correctly, can you explain what pilots need to do differently now than just a few months ago to be effective in BVR? When I go up in a very basic, head to head, nose-hot BVR engagement with bandits that should have objectively worse AA radars than the Hornet, I am routinely failing to even see the bandit on my scope before I get an incoming launch warning on my RWR. I am 100% sure that my antenna is correctly elevated and looking right at the bandit. PRF is set to Intl. If others don't see an issue with the radar, that must mean I am making some kind of an error, so I would sure love to figure out what it is.
  11. Any video you see of an aircraft crashing into the ground, it always produces a huge fireball and a cloud of black smoke as all the fuel ignites. In DCS, the jet does explode but it doesn't look very realistic. Maybe a bit of a morbid topic, but I think there is room for more realism here.
