  1. Thank you for your insights Worrazan Interesting you mentioned having DCS on a separate drive to the OS. RE: Oculus updates. Oculus isn't hijacking and forcing Windows updates. I meant Oculus's OWN software updates are forced on the user. So you get everything going good and then an Oculus update comes and within hours it's installed and you pray it doesn't break everything. And Oculus updates are gonna at some stage be dependent on having those Windows updates, so it's a loosing battle. 100 years in the future we will be all trapped in VR and unable to get out.
  2. Dear god, you were spot on! Somehow compatibility mode was set to Windows8 and I didn't notice it. Wasn't looking for it so I overlooked it here. Not sure if I accidentally ticked that on. I'm usually pretty careful with making changes, I take screenshots etc before I apply changes. It is possible my mouse floated there and I clicked there totally by mistake without realizing it. When I uninstalled DCS it must have been retained in registry. Going to check the registry settings based on that winzip example. Might be hidden back there. [edit] I just checked and the registry setting is removed since I now changed it in DCS.EXE Properties (Compatibilty settings) Spent hours trying to fix this. Lost a whole day. Can't thank you enough Worrazen :clap_2: I turn off win updates and even delay them, every few weeks I shut down and it installs a few updates... infuriating. Even Oculus forces updates and you can't turn them off.
  3. [RESOLVED: Thanks Worrazen] Hi all I am trying to open DCS stable version and getting a Faulting application error in event viewer. Here is the story (Whole day spent so far) Some details: I am running Stable version of DCS, so not open-beta related. DCS version 2.5.5.41371 Standalone version, not steam install. I do not run any mods. My sim PC is dedicated for sims only, no antivirus is installed. Eagle Dynamics folder has permissions set for full access control for all users of this computer. WINDOWS 10 1903 -OS build 18362.592 I was reading this forum thread about improving frame rates and disabling full-screen optimizations in registry. I tried it out and didn't get any improvement. Presumably because I was *already using disable full-screen optimization via Compatibility Tab for the sim exe files. I reverted the (backed-up) registry changes. Everything was fine and game opened okay. Found out I can gain 2.5fps if I used Alt+Enter and use full screen (VR, normally is narrow window on the desktop) I decided to test if disable Windows Full-Screen optimizations for "dcs.exe", "dcs_updater.exe", "run.exe" was really doing anything at all. Wanted to see if it really was improving fps or not. *I've had this disabled for sometime now, sim has been working okay. Sim has been working fine for a few months now with Switched on (Disabled Full-Screen optimizations) Today I switched off (default) (Disabled Full-Screen optimizations) - game played fine - ran some Frame Rate tests. Switched back on (Disabled Full-Screen optimizations) - game would not start Switched off (default) (Disabled Full-Screen optimizations) - game would not start I could see DCS_updater.exe appear in the task manager list, then dcs.exe appeared, but then after about 2 seconds it disappears again. The game doesn't kick off and start up the loading screen. This lead me to check event viewer and I saw this application error: At this point I was astounded that a simple change could stop the game loading, changing full screen optimization back to default (unchecked) didn't get it going again either. I've changed this setting a few times in the past while running frame rate testing with no ill effects. Tried reboot of PC. No Fix. I tried clean & repair of DCS - no luck with the problem, same error. The repair & clean runs through and does all the checks. No files are deemed required nor downloaded. I tried resetting all my NVidia control panel settings in-case of some conflict - no change, same error. Getting desperate thinking must be a corrupt game file, so I deleted all the files in dcs world\bin (except for dcs_updater.exe) Tried repair again and it re-downloads all the deleted files fine. Game still won't load though. I tried deleting all the main files in dcs_world root except for -DCS_updater repair.bat -autoupdate.dat -autoupdate.cfg -And deleted the dcs world\bin folder flies again (except for dcs_updater.exe) The aim of this was to delete all core game files and leave all the huge textures and models and let the repair rebuild the core game files. Essentially a crude delete/repair of DCS. Tried repair again and it re-downloads all the deleted files fine. Game still won't load though. Same error in event viewer. I backed up my saved data config files (thinking one of my user config files might be a problem), then deleted the saved games user config files. Tried starting DCS - Still won't load. Then I pulled the trigger, complete uninstall of DCS including all user config files to try start from scratch. I use VR, so thought maybe something conflicting there and a fresh install will not utilize VR so hopefully can get DCS running without VR and build on that. Takes 7 hours to install stock DCS on my connection, so when it finished, I was sure it would be okay. The install went through without any problems, ending with "Installing Runtime files" DCS.exe still dies in the task manager list... same error. I tried install DirectX redist again (from DCS World folder), just in case of a problem there - no fix. Tried uninstalling nvidia drivers and ran ccleaner. Reboot, re-installed nvidia drivers. Still nothing from DCS. I noticed Blindman in this forum suggested to removed windows update kb453269. This update installed 3 days ago so I don't think it has affected my game, I've been playing fine the last 3 days & my PC is rebooted everyday so any updates have not affected me, but I uninstalled it anyway - this didn't fix the problem. Tried Windows restore point; last one was 4 days ago when there was some minor Windows updates. Windows says unable to restore to that point, love windows xx I tried instead running DCS.exe (not DCS_updater.exe) and same problem. I checked the autoupdate_log.txt and all it shows is the repairer ran successfully. I checked dcs.log in user saved games\DCS\logs and it only shows logs for when the sim last opened successfully. When DCS.exe starts up, it immediately quits, so no logs are generated in SavedGames\DCS\logs. Thought my PC graphics was corrupt so I tried DirtRally. Worked fine. :noexpression: Long post I know, but I want to give you all the facts so you don't have to speculate too much. I have spent all day on this and hitting a wall now and appreciate any suggestions. Anyone have any ideas please ? and thank you
  4. Does the Huey's ball on the slip indicator function correctly in DCS? I remember reading somewhere in these forums it's physics is reversed due to a bug... :( or perhaps this is corrected now. But I want to know if it does indeed work correctly?
  5. Thanks guys for confirming the issue. The gunner FPV does face 180° as well sometimes, I forgot to mention that.
  6. Hi guys Since the last official stable update, I have noticed that occasionally when I switch to Huey's side gunner view, the view is either pointing 90° forwards (left gunner) or 90° rearward (right gunner) Problem exists for both M134 and M60 guns. It doesn't happen all the time, seems totally random and can't be replicated on purpose. Full DCS game restart "sometimes" fixes it. Once it is bugged, no amount of re-arming or re-joining session will get it right again. Happening for me in MP. iirc happening in SP as well. I have Rift-S so I thought initially it was just some VR issue, but then quite a few others in MP servers also have mentioned the same issue and they are using Track-IR or VR. Everyone I ask says they have this issue. Been flying the the Huey this last couple months and I have not seen this behavior until the last update. Sorry if this is in the wrong thread.
  7. I bought BK2, and the amp died after about 13 months from purchase from normal use in iRacing, never turned it up to high volume. For the BK2 price it is not worth the unreliability of the amp. I was hooked on bass shaking after that, so I bought two more 50W Aura bass shakers and my own 180W Sub Woofer amp. I set all 3 bass shakers (2x Aura + the original butt-kicker shaker) on the same sound channel (in mono). Bass Shakers are all mounted to my cockpit sub-frame. I used to use "Sim Vibe" software ($55usd) for iRacing which was awesome. I continued to use this Sub Woofer amp + 3 Bass Shaker hardware config in DCS. Just using the sound output from the game split to the bass shaker amp and my regular sound speakers. Audio splitter cable $1. note: Voice comms & music going through a separate USB sound card $5 + headrest mounted rear speakers. ........ and I tell you, just the vanilla game sounds through the bass shakers makes DCS a much better experience. (Using VR) Without bass shakers, DCS feels dead to me. I think the devs have put a good level of emphasis on bass sounds so that DCS works well in this config. Amp ~$120 USD Aura shakers ~$60 USD each BK2 kit ~$160USD (don't buy, unreliable amp) My cockpit shudders, vibrates and groans like sitting in a real air frame. And in VR, the immersion is on a ridiculous level. :D The Huey's main rotor blades cause crazy reverb and this changes depending on the force stress on the blades. Fast movers; air flow gives a nice rumble. The afterburners in my F15 kick you in the butt when they light up. Fly-by sonic boom..... brace yourself. Shooting guns, I feel the brrrrrt in my body. Go into free cam and explosions punch. Tanks rolling..... scary, run away. Neighbours don't hear anything, but I feel it.
  8. Yeah so installing DX9 2010 fixed it. You would think that installing Windows and the latest Graphics drivers for my 680GTX GPU would install everything it needs. Not so it seems. edit: thanks for putting Resolved into Thread Title. I forgot to do that
  9. I use the Samsung Nvidia High Definition audio set to primary intentionally. I use the HDMI cable from my GPU directly to my Samsung monitor (TV). This way my sound goes off when my monitor goes off. Useful for reason do do with amplifier setup, TV media center, more convenient etc. I tried just basic speaker output (on board motherboard sound). Still saw that error "Can't start XAudio2." I cannot use the Realtek Digiatal output at all. Only the Speakers Output works and Samsung Nvidia works for sound - (pictured audio devices) I don't have any amplifier with optical input so cannot use Realtek optical Output either. I had this all working okay on my previous build which had no updates applied to it (except x64 SP1) and Windows was only a few days old. Some Update somewhere broke my Media Center codecs so this is the reason I reinstalled Windows again yesterday. The only difference here is I just copied the installed files over to the new Windows build. I got to thinking....... I thought maybe something is missing now since I didn't use the nomal DCS installer...... IDK....... just trying anything here. Anyway I installed Dx9 (directx_Jun2010_redist.exe) and the then damn sound started working in DCS.... can't believe it.. dcs.log 0000.559 INFO SOUND: loaded 1096 sdefs from "sounds\sdef" 00000.593 INFO SOUND: Using driver: xaudio27 00000.598 INFO SOUND: XAudio2: Using device ID:'{0.0.0.00000000}.{f9d8b078-df4e-401a-851c-2cb71c6f72b3}' Name:'SAMSUNG-4 (NVIDIA High Definition Audio)', channels: 2 00000.638 INFO SOUND: XAudio2: channel layout: Headphones/Stereo 00000.639 INFO SOUND: Using SSE FTZ/DAZ mode. Sound works on HDMI and Speaker output. :pilotfly: Thanks for sympathy with my issue BIGNEWY
  10. Thanks BIGNEWY for jumping in. NB I had to rename dcs.log to dcs.log.txt in order to upload it here. I had this hardware configuration working okay until I re-installed. ie: Using HDMI cable from GPU output to monitor with speakers. Just after posting before I did try to use the speakers output instead from the motherboard. Rebooted & still no sound. Back on HDMI output at this moment during the log generation. EDIT added whole "logs" folder zipped DxDiag.txt dcs.log.txt Logs.zip
  11. Please help I am having extreme difficulty with this game. I had major issue with a new Windows install couple days ago. I had only just installed DCS 1.5 on that build. Also had downloaded DCS twice to get it working (wasting 2 days on the torrent system and used up all of my my download limit - I have only 60GB p/m) On my new Windows build, Windows update corrupted something, I spent days trying to resolve it, but so I had to rebuild again yesterday. I used up a deactivation getting UH-1H off it. I didn't want to torrent all the DCS program files (wait again for hours/days) and purchase another $25 data block from my ISP for the privilege to reinstall this game... so I copied the Program File Eagle Dynamics folder and the User Saved Data folder from my old drive. I can run the game, the old settings I used work, missions load up etc. I renamed my USB ID device numbers in the lua filenames so I could use these profiles again. (I did try exporting them but it only exported ONE Button at time, so gave up on that) I have re-activated my UH-1H module again The problem now is the sound does not work. DCS does not even show up as a running application in the sound mixer when the program is running. It should be there, but it isn't. (Pictured) Is there something that would cause the sound to not work from copying the Program Files directory? I tried ignoring the Saved Data Files and just copied the files in the Program Files directory (vanilla install so to speak), still there is no sound.
  12. Hi Guys I managed to fix it myself. @cichlidfan I updated my nvidia drivers from 364.51 to 375.57 & rebooted. Also I uninstalled DCSw 2 and DCSw 1.5.4 and re-installed DCSw 1.5.4 directly from website. A 12GB dl and a few hours later it re-installed . Exactly same issue... Could not access the OK / CANCEL button (hidden off the bottom of screen) C:\Users\myprofile\Saved Games\DCS\Config folder completely empty, no file I can edit. virus - I just re-installed Windows a couple days ago, not installed anything else at this stage except Adobe Reader and Antivirus. I think DCS can write to the SAved Data folder: I was able to create an option.lua file in Saved Data folder & using 1280x720 made the very top of the OK / CANCEL buttons available and I could make changes and they were saved. I also tried using Windows resolution set to 1280x768 (the same as in DCSw default), the game loads, but is double in size and can only see half the top left of the interface @Rangi No options.lua file exists in my saved games folder, so cannot rename it :) @Sigma1958 I changed Windows resolution to 1280 x 768 same as in DCSw default, game loads and is double in size and can only see half the top left of the interface This got me motivated to think it was something else that I was thinking about as I woke up earlier today in bed..... I have my Windows set to zoom at 150%. I do this so I can see Windows properly on my 42" TV from my couch. My PC is my media centre, TV tuner / PVR, browser and game centre - all from the one PC. It's much more comfortable to use when Windows is set to 150% size when sitting a few feet back. So I have Windows set to zoom 150% - this doesn't affect other software or games in full screen mode. But I tried and changed Windows zoom back to 100% and then everything worked properly in DCSw. I've never seen other software be affected by Windows set at 150% zoom. Thanks guys for trying to help. It's good to try different things to rule out potential issues and eventually narrow down the problem. .
  13. So I managed to create my "own" options.lua file from a template file I found in C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\MissionEditor\data\scripts I stripped out the redundant options data, so I could just input my own values for width/height/aspect ratio. I used ["graphics"] = { ["aspect"] = 1.777778, ["height"] = 720, ["width"] = 1280, }, This was the only thing I could get to work so that I could manage to see the top few pixels of the OK and CANCEL buttons. I went back into the menu of the game, changed it to 1920x1080 /16:9 and the game restarted of course, but it it now only shows about half the screen now. [see screenshot] I'm using HDMI from a nVidia GTX680. Not had problems like this before with other software. I had this going okay a while back okay using dcs 1.2.4 in 1080p. edit: added attachments (current options.lua attached producing oversized screen) options.lua
  14. Thanks Cibit The problem is though.... my C:\Users\TREX\Saved Games\DCS\Config folder is empty because I have been unable to create any changes to the default settings so my game has not been able to create an initial options.lua file that I can edit. I'm stuck in a catch-22. I cannot make changes and save them so it will not create a options.lua file that I can hijack and over-ride. The code you posted may work, but it is not the entire content of the options.lua file so i still need the beginning and end headers of this file, otherwise my game crashes when I load it using just the snippet you pasted in a file I create myself. I'm using notepad2 Is there anyway to have a code block that just includes the changes I need to make to get the buttons to appear so I can get things moving. screen height / screen width / aspect ratio Also I need the beginning and end code to make the file complete. Remember - I don't have a template to start with.
  15. EDIT: RESOLVED - I had Windows zoom set to 150%. I set it back to 100% and DCSw is resolution is fine now Hi pilots Been away a few years. I have KA-50 and UH-1H. I cannot see the OK and CANCEL button on options. It is defaulted to 1280x768 and seems to be truncating the lower portion on my 1920x1080 screen. I cannot change the default resolution and save it from in settings options screen. The truncated lower portion happens in sim/game and in starting menus. I have searched for about an hour here, tried a few things, most people just suggest to delete the "..../user/saved games/DCS/options.lua" and restart the game to fix this type of thing. Problem is.... I have no "..../user/saved games/DCS/options.lua" file create yet because I cannot save any option changes, so there is no file yet to delete. It is a vanilla install. I installed DCS 2 from the website, and also 1.2.4 which self updated to 1.54. Newly formatted Windows 7 x64 Ultimate. Same problem exists in DCS 2.0 and 1.54 I tried with another 1680x1050 spare monitor and set the Windows resolution to its own native 1680x1050 - similar issue. OK and CANCEL are off the bottom of the screen. I tried my other monitor set to 1280x1024 resolution in Windows, but the menu interface goes much too huge to navigate it at all. I can only see about a 2/3 of the menu. It's been quite frustrating. Some screen shots included when my monitor is set to 1920x1080 in Windows & game is default settings. Pics have been reduced in scale. Thanks for any help.

  17. Hi guys Had a bit of a search and couldn't find anything. I would like to change the sensitivity of the mouse when moving the head in cockpit around. If I adjust the mouse sensitivity in Windows, the sensitivity of the mouse cursor in game (yellow pointer crosshair) and the mouse in DCS menus will change, however - changing the Windows mouse sensitivity does not seem to affect the sensitivity of the mouse when controlling the head look around feature (L.Alt+C) How can I adjust that sensitivity? It doesn't seem to be a setting in the Controls Menus either. Thanks
  18. You are in the new trimmer mode where you have to put the stick back to centre manually before it responds again. Try the other mode, Go to single player >> options >> gameplay Uncheck the Central Trimmer Position mode. This gives you 0.5sec of no response after releasing the trim button giving you time to put the stick back to centre yourself. Remember when you release trimmer this sets a NEW virtual joystick centre position to where your physical stick is.
  19. I had the same issue, Right click and run as administrator fixed it.
  20. It's the multimonitor config you have .. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=972664#post972664 To play with NVG (1.0.2) I have to halt use of multimonitors and revert the options.lua file back to single monitor.
  21. Thanks mate.
  22. I am confused. If you cannot see any menus, then how do you know where to click to start a flight? Or are you just guessing where the instant action button is? Are you perhaps only using Multiplayer game? You have to configure controls and settings via the single player which is the orange Black Shark icon.
  23. edit: Yes, the title should spell Unbalanced..... 'I' and 'U' are next to each other on KB Sorry to make a new thread, but alas I did search and checked the user manual. When I deploy vikhrs, sometimes it uses up one side first resulting in an unbalanced A/C which is difficult to fly. It happens maybe 1:20 sorties in MP. I always make sure the both reticules are lined up when firing and I keep the ka50 level and still and use low burst mode (single vikhr). Most of the time I do not wait for the laser to cool before launching, but I am unable to find anything that says I should wait after locking the target to use a single vikhr and only need to wait when using High burst mode (2 vikhrs). This problem doesn't always occur and I use the same parameters to fire vikhrs so I cannot figure out what causes this seemingly random event. The following picture shows how it's used up 5 on the left pod first and one on the right, which shows both pods are actually working. I deployed all these in single Low burstmode. I continued the mission after taking the screenshot and I used all the remaining vikhrs alright so the weapons systems were functioning correctly. It should alternate firing vikhrs from both sides as what usually happens, occasionally it does not. What causes this? Thanks if you can answer this.
  24. DTWD's Basic 'Make my god-damn game speak English' MOD http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=55383
  25. Those training videos AND the producer notes can ba found on youtube. The upgrade is essential. Both for multiplayer and the better sound engine and other fixes.
