  1. Is there any sort of feedback that you've saluted? I don't see any external or mirror animation, for example.
  2. I'm confused about what they actually added or changed. FWIW, hitting the salute command still doesn't actually do a salute animation unless you are on the catapult.
  3. Where is this one? When I search for "salute" in the bindings menu, I can only find the cat shot one that was already there.
  4. Missile prep takes like 2 minutes, so yeah. If you don't see the hot trigger light, it's not ready yet. Personally, I press missile prep and SW cool on startup. Perhaps not realistic, but at least I don't forget to do it (and there's no downside).
  5. Either launch under 20 or somewhere over 30. I can't see why you wouldn't be able to launch if you had either a TWS track or radar lock (or a jam angle track). There aren't any restrictions about range on launching.
  6. FWIW, shots between 20-30nm were generally considered a no-go for the Phoenix in real life. On a shorter range shot, where the missile doesn't loft, you really need it to be burning its motor almost all the way to the target.
  7. I think the deal was, after the (first?) Gulf War, they realized that the Tomcat just wasn't getting tasked for it's primary role of air-to-air (for a variety of reasons). I think Snort's reasoning was that taking on the air to ground role with LANTIRN gave the F-14 continued relevance, and more chance to continue in service than if it had stayed primarily air to air with the AMRAAM.
  8. One thing that seems to have been missed is a fix for the stepping sound effects for engine start (at least for starting the right engine on the F-14A). Also, maybe someday we will get a fix for the pilot model showing up in MP even though the option is unchecked. I think it's been like 2 years since this was supposed to have been fix, but was mistakenly left out of a build...apparently never to return?
  9. Can't recall exactly...could have been on the Discord, or Reddit. They also mentioned that the AI A-6 should be out in "the coming releases" (or something like that).
  10. They just recently said they hope the early A will be out by the end of the year.
  11. If it's rocket motor is still burning, it can pull quite a lot of G. On a shorter range shot, say within 15 miles, it's at least as agile as a Sparrow (and much more chaff resistant).
  12. Richard "Fox" Farrel...I don't think he was the CO, though, that was Emory Brown at the time. Fox Farrel had a very snappy salute for launching, which I believe is visible in some of the catapult scenes.
  13. I've heard it was actually worse in real life then what we have in DCS. The path marker in that video is jumping around to the point of being useless.
  14. OTOH, it would be nice if Jester at least moved and kept the antenna at the correct elevation of a datalink target, even if he can't lock it atm.
  15. What bind/Jester option are you using to lock them? If you are using "lock enemy," that won't work in this case, because they haven't been IFF'ed (the contacts are half squares, not and not the "^" shape), and so Jester will not lock them. There's a more generic "lock target" you should be using in this case.
  16. One tip I have is to bind the TID ranges to some hat or wheel in your setup. My reason for this is that the option to choose ranges disappears from the Jester wheel for some reason once you launch a missile (at least it always has for me). However, the binds will still work fine.
  17. Any chance we'll ever get the no pilot body check box in the menu to be honored in MP? I know it's a small thing, but I think it was supposed to be fixed like two years ago?

  19. Huh..well fwiw, I almost always have the canopy open when I shut down the left engine, and I've never heard the stepping on that one. This is for the A model, btw. Dunno about the B.
  20. That one is a known issue. I believe it only affects the right engine when starting up or shutting down, and only externally, or when the canopy is open.
  21. I don't think there's any indication (and there's probably not supposed to be) in that case. Best bet is to use the TTI timer, as I assume it will go active at 16-20 seconds to impact. If you are able to get an external view of the missile with F8, you can usually tell by it's behavior when it has gone active.
  22. 40 miles is pretty close, but also, are you cranking to gimbal limits after launch, to reduce your closure to the target?
  23. Anyone else notice sorta step behavior with the engine sound during startup of the first engine? Like it doesn't continuously spool up, but goes through 4 or 5 discrete steps. I've had it do that a bunch of times on startup, and at least once on shut down as well.
  24. TWS continues to be wonky, with both lost tracks insta-trashing missiles, and the radar seemingly showing hot targets suddenly moving at 90 degrees to their real course for long intervals.
  25. It actually reminds me a bit of the original camo proposed for the F-16. I do think it'd look better with a white nose versus black, though.
