The need for ground power supports the idea that the inability to start is the battery dying. I flew the other night, but unfortunately it was a rough night as I either hit the ground paying too much attention to the bandit or was shot down and didn't have a chance to test the theory.

Interesting. I will have to try turning the batter off after start. I'm not sure how that's right, Doesn't the generator still need a battery to provide electrical power? By Kill Switch I did mean the electrical kill switch. The manual calls for it on shut-down. I've tried both approaches, hitting the kill switch and not hitting the kill switch. Still no start.

After a sortie after a rearm, refuel and at times a repair, I am unable to get the 109 restarted. Once I pull the kill level, turn the boast pumps off, magnetos to off, and hit the kill switch I call for rearm/refuel or repair. After a successful rearm/refuel or repair, the plan doesn't start with the normal procedure. Anyone experiencing the same thing? Is this a bug? I did a search and come up with nothing that applied?

DCS Stable 1.53 Crash
Zooker replied to IvanK's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
I'm experiencing the same behavior. Happens with any aircraft. -
I just returned to tinkering with the 109 and there have been some significant patches in the interim. I've noticed a huge pitch up moment from the aircraft at cruise speeds. The nose down trim, barely counteracts the pitch up moment. Is anyone else experiencing this? Is this correct behavior?

The book is very enjoyable. You wont be disappointed.

The name of the Jane's simulation chat room and flight meet up site escapes me, but Hyperlobby is still around. Any reason why there isn't something similar for DCS? Would be nice to see server status and live chatting going on while at work....:music_whistling:

Did I misunderstand the book? My take away from this part of the book was the A-4 with the slats bolted up, was not as close a representation of the Mig-17 & 21, as an A-4 with the slats operational?

ITR and STR?

How about: F-14 Maneuverability, performance chart interpretation, a dissertation on the pros and cons of the Gen 3 US Aircraft vs Gen 2 Russian aircraft, (and to round it all off) a breakdown on Vietnam Airframe Loss Records and the implication for Rules of Engagement, Strategy, Training Standards and Effectiveness of Airframes and Aircrews......maybe? :book:

Although it got a little heated, I just spent the last 30 minutes at work, mind you, reading this great stuff...We can change the title of thread, but I enjoy seeing what's in the big brains on this forum. Better get back to work...

Interested. Pacific Timezone here.

The kneeboard definitely trips the gen c.b. and the battery c.b. They seem to be tripped when the kneeboard is closed after trying to change the page of the kneeboard with "[" and "]". Once the kneeboard is closed the breakers wont go back in until the kneeboard is opened again. Very odd and definitely a bug.

Interesting. I'll have to try that out. It appears the battery is 24v and the generator is 24v. Any electrical load placed on the battery at a time when the generator is not producing enough power, i.e. low RPM, should drain the battery. Would be interesting to see if the battery is recharged once it's hooked up to ground power.
-
Make sure your generator has been on the whole flight, and try not to put a heavy electrical load when operating at low RPM. I think the battery gets drained. I've notice this flashing myself. One question, is the gunsight flashing as well as the gear indicator?

Electrical Fuel Pump and Winter Start Handle
Zooker replied to SkyCaptain109's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
Just realized my generator circuit breaker was in the OFF position. I'm assuming my fuel pumps weren't operating with the generator off. -

Had this problem myself, with fuel pump circuit breaker IN. Any idea of the cause? -

Any information available to connect up with you guys? I'm interested in seeing what is being put together. I'm just looking to fly with some like minded people. -

I'd be interested in meeting up with you guys. I live in the Pacific Time Zone. -
I highly recommend the Snowball Microphone, especially as the host. Great podcast by the way, looking forward to the next episode.

The brake pads are activated by air pressure (pneumatic). Maybe there is a control valve that is link to rudder movement that directs the air pressure to either wheel and when the rudder neutral the air pressure is allowed to reach both sets of brake pads. I'm intrigued as well...Hopefully someone smarter comes a long...:helpsmilie:

I don't see anything wrong with learning in the Sabre. The systems are a small portion of learning how to dogfight. Right now you need to learn to get behind and stay behind another aircraft. I'd be willing to fly with you regularly, I won't make any claims to being an ace, but it makes it easier to learn competing against a human opponent. You never can learn enough about dog fighting, the moment you think you know it all, there is someone better that will wipe the floor with you. This is a great thread with a lot of good information.

Expect to die a lot! In IL-2, I had the flying part down, shooting was pretty good, and my BFM and ACM wasn't bad. Now in DCS P-51, I'm back to step one, flying plane and I'm dieing a lot. It helps to talk about it with others to. Another pilot might just describe a maneuver just right so that it clicks!
