Great explanation. Thank you Dagger.

In other aircraft such as the AV-8B the Maverick missile needs to be manually uncaged, partially as I understand to blow the protective covering off the seeker head. I was curious in the A-10 why this step is not required. Is it automatic, or some other reason? Thank you.

Contact Armored Target Ford xxx?
polygonpusher replied to polygonpusher's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Haha, you sure? Wow, Thanks... *has his ears cleaned... -
Occasionally my wingman will make a radio call such as "Contact; Armored Target; Twelve O'clock; Ford One Zero." I have not found in the manual, or in a quick forum search what "Ford One Zero," is. Is it a range? A map designation? I don't have any IPs in the simple mission named "Ford." I thought the call might refer to "me," but my two ship flight is callsign Enfield. Anyone know? Thanks for the help!

Re-SPI Target Again After Lasing?
polygonpusher replied to polygonpusher's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Ahhhh! Thank you Frederf! I understand now. :) Can't wait to try it. -
After watching the wonderful Targeting Pod tutorial by ExcessiveHeadspace A technical question arose... Say for instance the target location is set as the SPI by the targeting pod, and you choose to fire the laser to have a more accurate target location... In that case, do you then need to set the SPI Again (TMS Up Long) After the laser is fired, OR is firing the laser all that is necessary to "update" the SPI location? This question had been bothering me for some time, and I'd be grateful for any clarification anyone could bring. Thank you so much! Happy Hunting

Mk-82 Dive Angle, Airspeed Recommendation
polygonpusher replied to polygonpusher's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Thanks for the advice everyone. I'll have to try to stay out of my own frag pattern. Cheers. :) -
I would recommend programming it. If you'd like I can send you my X-52 profile so you can see how you like it.

Mk-82 Dive Angle, Airspeed Recommendation
polygonpusher replied to polygonpusher's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Thanks Smokey! That's an awesome video. Unfortunately due to a pre-exiting medical condition I was not able to enlist - made it as far as the bus to MEPS. Thanks again, Normally I release at 6,000 ft and 15 degrees of dive - airspeed varies What release parameters work for you? -
Greetings all, I'm very interested in learning the "by the book" parameters used for mk-82 / mk-84 CCIP bombing in the A-10. I realize that the CCIP pipper does most of the work for us - however I feel like I never have an optimal altitude and dive angle combination. I had found this table posted by Any Bush in his excellent article over at SimHQ. http://www.simhq.com/_air/air_101p.html The top line of the chart reads to me as fifteen degrees, and a release altitude of 1.3 (I'm assuming 1,300 ft?) for a low drag mk-82. Am I reading this right? 1,300 ft seems awfully low. Any clarification, information, or insight on proper release parameters would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much, And Thank You DCS team for all of your dedicated hard work. It's a beauty this one

As I recall Nomdeplume the behavior was the same even with various escape profiles set. I'll have to do an actual test to confirm. Is the "X" to be taken as a healthy recommendation only- in that the bomb will release even if it is "invalid"? I've let them fly with invalid release cues at what I deemed a safe altitude with no problems or blast damage.
-
The Minimum Range Staple just plain does not seem to like anything even remotely resembling a dive. Even at 10,000 ft 45 degrees of dive gives an invalid symbol due to MRS. at 6,000 ft and 35 degrees - still no go. Often the only time the MRS does not interfere is when the aircraft is pitched very little - less than say 15 degrees. These examples are with a Mk-82 with zero time of flight, zero minimum altitude, and no escape profile. Are your experiences the same? Other posts I have read seem to indicate so. Is the A-10 "meant" to do most of it's CCIP bombing with a level attitude? Maybe I'm trying to do things too much like the old Falcon 4 days... :)

Bringing the fight to their level...
polygonpusher replied to polygonpusher's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Before this gets out of hand, I don't think X4nPro's comments were meant to be taken too seriously or as some kind of personal assault against my airmen-ship. I certainly didn't. All in good fun ladies and gents. -
Bringing the fight to their level...
polygonpusher replied to polygonpusher's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Not everyone is a hog pilot, but I want to be absolutely clear - I am extremely appreciative of the complexity and fidelity of this sim. If anything were dumbed down or taken out for "game play" purposes, I would be extremely disappointed. I like the fact that you have to wait for the gyros to spin up, and that the cdu is a beast to learn... There is a special satisfaction that comes from learning these systems as they exist in real life. Though sometimes I may not play in a realistic fashion, most of the time I strive to do just that, and am glad for every but of fidelity and nuance I can get. -

Antics aside, I am looking forward to beta-5 :) -
I had to share this... While attacking a group of armor, my right engine was damaged so I made an emergency landing on the road. Safely down, I noticed the targeting pod was STILL tracking my assailant. Quite naturally, I followed the road back to his location - the last stretch across a grassland meadow. As I neared the tank, it's machine gun opened up, and I tried to respond with my own. Rounds from the GAU impacted uselessly only feet from my nose. Clearly this needed to be a point blank affair. Advancing to close the distance- short bursts of Avenger cannon testing the range, 30 yards, 20... I was almost there! Both engines died. Before my hog was shredding completely, I gave one last long pull on the trigger... The sustained fire caused the entire ship to rock back on it's haunches - rear wheels digging into the earth, the nose pivoting skyward; and with it a devastating stream of fire. "...low altitude capabilities..." I'd say so. :music_whistling:

Track IR 64 bit games support available From the Track IR website: 4.1.038 beta 03 (Posted December 17, 2010) Changes Added support for 64-bit TrackIR Enhanced games Unfortunately my Track IR v4 /w vector support still is not working with the A-10 64 bit executable. (It does work in 32 bit mode.) Has anyone else had success with the Track IR beta drivers & A-10 64 bit? Thanks

My highest praise for what I'm sure will be an astounding sim... but... the replay tools for Papyrus Indycar Racing on DOS were leaps and bounds above what is offered here. I'd rather have a jaw dropping sim than replay tools, but I think ED quite capable of doing both - lets keep encouraging them to do so.
-
I agree with Squirrel... I think I'd better leave this alone until final release, or else I'll just keep trying to get it "right," instead of actually having fun and blowing things up :)

"Quickie" If anyone has any thoughts as to why the boom operator disconnected me, I'd be grateful to hear them. I ask because I don't think I'm way out of the boom limits, yet I get disconnected right away. (see attached track) Thanks so much! BrokenContact.trk

I'm sure it will be addressed sooner or later -I just was curious if it were on the table for sooner. Sobek- thanks for clearing up who Ulrich is, I thought the name sounded familiar. Castle- I was hoping that a similar fix would come down the line for refueling Happy flying everyone!

Ah! I should have read more carefully the fix I referred to was indeed by Ulrich. My thanks indeed!
