What do you think about P-51D and Flying Legends?
Dimebag replied to csper's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Not to distract from this thread, but when DCS Fighter comes out, it will attract the attention of the entire flight simming community, and in turn the wider gaming audience to a lesser extent. DCS Fighter is of the utmost importance to ED, and will determine their future success or eventual fade into obscurity, which is why they must get it right. This means having much of the features a great simulation is expected to have (such as a great campaign, excellent online play, wonderfull modding capability, and of course modelling of the aircraft in exquisite detail). I know ED is capable of two of those, but hopefully they can also improve in areas such as their campaign system and their modding capability (the are signs this is happening). The thing I am looking forward to seeing the most is how their mission generator system progresses, hopefully towards something which resembles an unfolding campaign. But anyway, back to the mustang. Everyone needs a midlife crisis, even ED. -
I'm angry because I can't fly at the moment... :badmood:

Mission designers could include images for use in the knee boards to aid in navigation based off landmarks. I wonder would this be possible? Or even target location photos?

Quick question wags, how will navigation be handled? Will you attempt to give a realistic form of navigation such as charts, and maybe an ongoing dead reckoning plot on the map, or maybe using adf? Or are you heading for more of a visual navigation based on landmarks? Just curious. Thanks. By the way, love the look of the mustang, inside and out. -
Very cool, those tracers look very realistic and it's nice to see the damage model from another cockpits point of view. Can't wait to get another mustang in my sights. Makes me wonder now, would the mustang be able to out dogfight the warthog? If the hog got behind it, it'd be 'goodnight Irene' for the 'stang.

I personally think that ED should be focussing more on the next DCS modern fighter jet, as this is definitely where the general audience wishes the series to go, and where the greatest gap is in modern military simulators. I am ok that ED are adding ww2 fighters to their set list, and can see that it is an intelligent move for them to stay alive in the market, as a ww2 study sim would be faster to create, and easier from a licenseing perspective, allowing them to bang several out fairly quickly. However for me there are a few concerns. Firstly, ED, while proving wonderful in their ability to faithfully simulate every grueling detail of an aircraft on the study sim level, have always been lacking in resources to complete the picture, with accurate and believable scenarios such as new theaters of war. If we are to bring the mustang to the very same area as previous DCS and flaming cliffs, it will be disappointing. Because of the mustangs historical service record, it is difficult to imagine a scenario where it would be at home in the current area of the world modelled by ED. The draw card of most ww2 sims seems to be the recreation of a historical theater of war. If ED faithfully reproduce the mustang, but fall short in other areas, it will limit both it's potential to be a great sim, and it's potential audiences interest. In saying that I might be wrong, maybe the new audience will accept the wonderfully accurate modeling of the mustang, despite not having an accurate surrounding to fly it in. My other concern is, how does integrating DCS MUSTANG, with previous DCS series add to the future potential of the DCS multiplayer capability? For me, it seems completely out of place alongside the a-10 and the black shark. And when ED eventually do bring out the next true DCS modern fighter jet, the mustang will be like the elephant in the corner.... At any rate, I will probably get DCS mustang, purely because I love a faithful reproduction of an aircraft, especially one as beloved as the mustang. Now as for online play, maybe if ED continue to bring out more ww2 aircraft, I can see how that would aid the online experience, but until then, I can't imagine too much going on there. -
Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
Dimebag replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Working on several aircraft at once, With none of them garaunteed to be released seems extremely risky with the possibility of wasting all your hard work when it turns out you cant release said aircraft. It worries me if they dont have a definite idea of which aircraft they are working on. -
Is the current DCS engine for A-10c or BS2 capable of displaying speculars and normal maps at this stage? Has anyone managed to use these tools to create a model which takes advantage of these features? I had a look at the texturing documentation and they spell a fair bit out for us, even with a translator.

So mr informant, what other little tidbits do you have locked up in that head? :notify:

Does this mean that you think that any DCS series which was carrier based would be pointless? -
Nope, better off just starting from scratch.

Pretty soon that dream might become a reality bud. -
Would be funny if they made you have the original LOMAC, FC1, and FC2.

Very nice model there, keep it up!

Not impossible, just difficult and extremely time consuming.

Dagnabbit, i want to know! :wallbash: -
I just hope ED aren't taking on too much at the moment. The compatability patch for a-10c, bs2 and fc3, FC3, DCS: Flying legends, and DCS: Fighter Jet. Thats four separate projects, i worry we may not see the most important of these projects, which is the DCS : Fighter if they don't really focus their efforts. IMO, in order of importance, they should focus mostly on DCS : Fighter Jet, compatability patch, FC3, then if they have some spare time give us the living legends. As exciting as it is to have all of these programs on the horizon, I would sleep better to know they are committed to the most important of these projects.

Strapping a Monitor to a Helmet for Immersion

Nice work, This would be even better though, shame about the price but if you combine this with trackir you would get the ultimate simming experience: http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2011/09/hands-on-sonys-hmz-t1-is-an-amazing-oled-3dtv-that-you-wear-on-your-head/ Just needs a bit higher resolution and fov and it will be perfect. -
Wow, i knew there was a compatability patch coming but this took me by surprise. Would be nice to see some screenies or video.

Open up modelviewer.exe and open the kabina-<your plane>.cmd file. Go to the view menu an switch to cockpit. Grab a pen and paper, draw up a table with four columbs, one is instrument, two is range on instrument from min to max (e.g. 0-1600kph) 3 is argument number, 4 is argument range (e.g. Depending on the instrument the range might start at -1, or 0, or even 0.5, and usually finish at 1.). For certain instruments you will have to note the instrument movement in very small increme ts such as every 0.1, others like a compass you only need to note them every 90 degrees of rotation, but you will have to learn when to do this yourself. This really is the only way to learn, even if you had someone elses table, you might not understand how the instrument operates, so this way you know the cockpit inside out. FYI, doing this will take many hours, it took around 3 days for me to extract all the information i needed, so i hope you are a patient person. Good luck.

Hehe, nothing like a little rumor thrown out there to stir things up hey GGTharos ;)
