  1. It means ALIGN UNSATISFACTORY. That is, the transfer alignment is insufficient for weapon guidance. Make sure that you're performing a full gyrocompass "ground" alignment. You need to let the EGI go for the full 4 minutes and the INS NAV RDY indication begins to flash. Only then should you press the NAV button and engage EGI mode from the NMSP. It is possible for the weapons' transfer alignment to degrade if you sit motionless on the ground, or fly straight and level for prolonged periods (10-15 minutes). This is normal, and you should simply turn the aircraft about 90 degrees if on the ground, or maneuver the aircraft left/right if in the air. This should restore an ALN RDY state.
  2. IFF is inoperative for the time being, kind of like the Have Quick radios. It has clickable elements, and I'm pretty sure the sim outputs values for the systems, but the values are not plugged into anything. I suspect that once we are presented with the next fixed-wing fighter aircraft, there will be some IFF/SIF functionality included.
  3. I don't think I'd say it's "just fine". It severely lacks the fidelity found in the rest of the simulation. All things considered, it's due for a little love.
  4. TACAN and ILS work just fine, and have ever since A-10C came out. VOR and NDB are present too, but the A-10 does not have the equipment to receive/use these navaids. ATC is indeed very poor. I'd love to see it improved, but I'm willing to give it a pass because there is som much other stuff to do in the sim. While ATC is integral to the kind of flying possible in FSX, it plays a minor role in simulating tactical flying.
  5. First and foremost, don't hesitate to try it out. I've been an avid simmer since I was 6 years old...in 1986. For all these years, with the exception of flying with my brother in the same house via LAN, I never flew online/multiplayer. I joined a virtual squadron about 6 months ago, and flew online for the first time. It's a game changer - literally. I wish I had done it years ago. I only have experience with one virtual squadron, and its standards are fairly demanding. However, there a plenty of squadrons out there that cater to varying levels of proficiency and realism. There are also public servers available for less structured "air quake" flying. If you're interested in a structured experience, I'd recommend checking out this thread for more info: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=34062&highlight=squadron+directory There's also a directory here: http://en.wiki.eagle.ru/wiki/Virtual_Squadrons_and_Regiments
  6. I just got these pedals and had the same issue. Here's the fix: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1398682&postcount=27
  7. No, it didn't ask. When I set DCS-updater.exe to Run as Admin, it then choked on the next file which I think was AsmShadersCompiler.exe. At that point, I assumed that it would fail on each of the executables in /bin unless I set them all to Run as Admin. Instead of troubleshooting further, I went ahead and set them all to Run as Admin. It's possible that it wasn't necessary to do so for ALL of the executables, but I didn't check it further. Once I set them all to Run as Admin, DCS-updater.exe ran without fault. Thanks c0ff, all good ideas.
  8. Good, perhaps the culture has changed. I used to get crazy looks from people when I put earmuffs on over my squishies. Then again, this was from people who refused to believe that jet blast could overturn a semi-truck, and once claimed that there was no way a jet was "faster 'n a NASCAR!"... And, for the record, knee pads will save your life. I cannot begin to count how many thousands of hours I spent on my knees in the bellies of DC-8's, DC-9's, 717's, 727's, 757's, and A319/320's. Working at a cargo airline is worse because a lot of that bulk cargo is some seriously heavy sh*t.
  9. Double bag it. I used to use yellow squishies under earmuffs, and I swear by it. I used to have some really nice 3M earmuffs, but they don't seem to make the same model anymore. These are similar, and offer 28db of protection: http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/ELVEX-Ear-Muff-3RXE1?Pid=search Underneath those, use the earplugs that are "push-in" type. These have an internal stiffener, so that you son't have to roll them up to get them in. The easier they are to get in when you're running out the door, the more likely you are to actually wear them. (Blanket "so-to-speak" on the entire preceding paragraph.) Sometimes, the "cool kids" will have a chuckle at your insistence on proper PPE. Tell them to f*ck off...
  10. That was going to be my next step, to Run as Admin, but the DCS-updater.exe deleted itself, along with all the other executables (launcher.exe, dcs.exe, runlua.exe, etc...). They just disappeared. I thought running a Repair on the installation would fix it, but that shortcut also points to the missing DCS-updater.exe. The only thing I could do was uninstall/reinstall. I did eventually get it to work by manually changing the Compatibility settings of each executable in the /bin directory to "Run as Administrator" BEFORE letting the autoupdater attempt an update.
  11. I'm on Win7 Ultimate x64, logged into an administrator account. I downloaded the torrent version of DCS World and it installed normally. I then downloaded the A-10C module, which also installed normally. When I started DCS World using the new desktop shortcut, I got the dialogue box stating that a new update was available. I said yes, and allowed the updater to begin. It validated my local files, downloaded the update, and began applying the update. Immediately thereafter, I received the following message: I tried running the shortcut again, and received the following message: I thought that was weird, so I ran "Repair DCS World" from the Start Menu, and received the same error message. I checked the ../DCS World/bin/ directory and this is all that's there: I uninstalled, reinstalled and did not install the A-10C module in order to isolate the issue. The result was the same. I've tried it four times, and it's the same each time. Prior to running the updater on the 4th try, I made a backup copy of all the applications in the /bin directory. I was going to replace them and try again, but I see that at least half of the original files in the /bin directory are missing. Any ideas what's happening?
  12. I think he means that your mod is so much more realistic, that it should become the default effect for DCS. As in, it would be nice if it were incorporated into the game as standard. Edit: Sniped! Don't leave the room when posting, kids.
  13. Yes. The video was filmed over Tuscon, Arizona. It's the desert southwest and it's hot, so most roofs are light colored to help reflect the sun. Take a peek around Davis-Monthan AFB in Google Maps.
  14. Two different, yet related procedures. First, boresight the missile. Second, press "ADJ" on the MAV MFCD and adjust the wagon wheel.
  15. On the real jet, the seeker boresight procedure is something that must be done during each flight, for each launcher. It corrects for parallax between the missile LOS and the HUD LOS, which ensures both proper operation of the DLZ as well as agreement between the HUD wagon wheel symbol and the actual seeker. In DCS, we are given perfect missiles, so no seeker boresight is required. However, performing a seeker boresight can still pay dividends in DCS. If you plan on employing the Mav from medium altitude, you can re-boresight the missile at a greater depression angle, say 150 mils instead of the defult 70. This way, you won't have to dip the nose to get the wagon wheel near the target area, and you'll have a much easier time slewing. Technique only.
  16. During maneuvering, the oil pressure fluctuates. With zero or negative g maneuvers, the oil pressure can drop to 0 psi. This is ok as long the oil pressure returns to normal within one minute. The boldface for an erratic oil pressure indication is to operate the engine at minimum power (but not idle) and monitor the pressure. If, after one minute, the pressure has not returned to the normal range, the engine is to be shutdown before it has a catastrophic failure.
  17. A Breaklock results and correlate track is automatically commanded to ground stabilize the scene to aid in target (re)acquisition.
  18. Space stabilization is indeed TMS Left (hold). However, the same conditions for space stabilization are also met when slewing (missile video present, seeker uncaged, brakes released). The only difference is that slew commands act directly on the torquer motors which slews the seeker in the earth-fixed inertial reference frame. I'm pretty sure I submitted a bug with the details of the various missile states and seeker behavior. Obviously, I can't access it, but it should have been fairly recently... Or maybe I'm remembering it wrong, and I added a comment to someone else's report, or just posted it in the forum. I'm not sure exactly, but I remember typing the whole thing up somewhere. Lol...
  19. Hey Oleg, There should be a juicy bug report in Mantis, if I remember correctly. If you can't find it, let me know.
  20. Mav seeker stabilization has been bugged for a long time. The seeker is gyro-stabilized...when slewing, the seeker should be space stabilized. It's a known issue. It will get fixed eventually.
  21. GCAS functions such as the 90ft Hard Call are disabled when the radar altimeter is off/inoperative. PGCAS, on the other hand, uses DTSAS and continues to function even without the radar altimeter. As such, it is normal to continue to receive the PGCAS Break-X and "PULL UP" VMU messages.
  22. Leaving the hobby. Desperately need cash. Selling my stick and rudder pedals on Ebay. Here are the links: Stick: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140851671732 Pedals: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=140851692942 Regards, Nick
  23. First pic: a beautiful, crystal clear, optically perfect canopy. Right? Second pic: Same canopy when you look toward a bright light source. Notice anything?
