Have you considered just using a set screw from the side to keep it from spinning? It should do the trick real nice. If needed for good measure, simple grind a small flat on the switch and the the set screw will "dog" onto the flat.

MTFDarkEagle, I noticed the landing lights ship in packs of 4. If you want, I'll split the costs with you and take 1 of them.

Quick build, low cost UFC for A-10C
ncimike3 replied to Bergison's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Great. I think I have it figured out with the exception of the wiring board. That seems to be a little tricky. If I had to pick one thing for more specifics, it would be the wiring board. Thanks again. -
looking for advice on a triple monitor setup
ncimike3 replied to ncimike3's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I do have another option. I still have my old Gtx 480. Currently trying to sell. Would it be recommended to keep it as another video card and drive my touch screens off of that? and let the gtx 680 do all the heavy lifting on the 3 main display screens without the triple head? Not sure how it all would pan out. I could sell the triple head for 250. Currently the GTX 480 is worth $160-170. Any opinions and advice is welcome. -

Great job. I think I'll try and build this for my sim pit. I'm not quite sure you meant by " inserted little button-caps into it". Could you be a little more specific? Thanks. -
looking for advice on a triple monitor setup
ncimike3 replied to ncimike3's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
regarding not needing the triple head: my thinking was that I only have 4 outputs on my video card. one output was for the triple head. the other 3 were to be used for touch screens. Like you I have a wip sim pit I started. mine will be much more humble. I looked at your wip pics and was in awe of your talent. So impressed. So is my thinking on the video output correct or flawed? -
I just got a GTX 680 video card with a Matrox triple head2go. I currently have 2 HP W2408 monitors. I could just buy a third HP 2408 monitor or sell the two monitors and go with 3 new monitors. The thing I don't like about the HP W2408 is that the bezel is huge. I was looking at into the MD230X3 triple monitor setup and it looked pretty good. I does however seem to be a bit short on Height. I'm looking for some input and advice from some of you who have been down this road already. Thanks. Mike

I'm looking into getting a new video card for my setup and after reading the posts have come to the conclusion that the GTX 680 is the best out there. The only question is should I get the "FTW" which has 4 gig of ram. I can afford either one at the moment. I guess what I don't know is what will the extra 2 gig do for me? Will it give me more FPS or will it allow me to add more monitors without taking a FPS hit? I am currently building a sim pit and plan on having 3 monitors in front with 2 below running Helios. Thanks for any help. Mike

As a hobby, I would like to learn how to start building my own gauges that work with DCS A-10C. I'm a mechanical engineer with some experience in VBA and fortran programming language but my experience with electronics is limited to building and repairing my own computers. Can anyone recommend the best way to get started. Are there any good step by step guides. I'm willing to spend money on output input boards and whatever else is needed. I thought I could start with just one gauge, and see how it goes. This is something I've always wanted to do and I figure stop dreaming about it and start doing something about it. Thanks so much for any help. Mike

Excellent work. Thank you so much. Looks like you took a lot of time doing this.

Question. Why is the anti skid switch put into the A10? In every check list and tutorial I've read, they always say to make sure it is engaged. I was just wondering, what kind of scenario would require that you don't need the anti-skid? wouldn't it make more sense to have anti skid just always on and engaged as part of the the built in system?

I used this http://www.hagstromelectronics.com/products/ke_usb108.html. Not that tough. 1 wire for each switch position with a common wire running through all switches. By the Way Jedi, Impressive work on the cockpit. I would love to copy it.

The wiring wasn't hard after doing a little research. They make these keyboard emulator boards that have a usb plug in. each switch gets a wire (or 2 or 3, depending on how many positions) that go to the board. The board comes with software that lets you program it. For example when I flip the landing gear switch up, the board receives signal and then is programmed to send the corresponding key strokes programmed for that switch. Not too difficult once you experiment with a few switches. Just gotta make sure that the key strokes you program in DCS match with what you program for the board. As far as the MFcd's, way too far apart. I would not do it the same way again. I would get a very small keyboard and get everything in tighter. It was a learning experience. But worth it.

Thanks Gadroc. The chair rumbles like crazy with the bass turned up. Drives my wife crazy. whole house vibrates. She is threatening me to move it to the garage. I do have a question for you. See that second monitor to the right? when I output helios to it with the left and right MFD data being exported from DCS, FPS went to hell. You helped me on the helios forum. But the way I understand your answer it is that if I let a 2nd video card do the output for the helios profile on the 2nd screen, it won't really impact my fps right?

I thought I would share some of my pics with the community. I'm a bit of a novice at this. I couldn't have even done this without the help and others on this site. This is my first cockpit build ever and sucks compared to some of the others I've been looking at. I'm quite humbled by how well designed they are. For my cockpit I retrofitted one of my kids gaming rumble chairs. Just finished this a few weeks ago and now I trying to learn how to add more monitors with Helios and other stuff.

[How To] Export ALL Indicators like MFCD via ViewPorts

perfect. Thanks so much. without support from people like you I would have given up this game a long time ago. I'm now on my way over to Helios. I'll for sure donate. -

ok. I got stuff showing up on my 2nd screen. What I'm running into now is how to get more than just the text showing up. for example, i have my cdu file showing up, but only the text. How does one go about getting the entire computer, buttons and all to show up. What am I missing? -

[How To] Export ALL Indicators like MFCD via ViewPorts

Thanks for the tutorial! I tried to put a digital clock on my 2nd rightmost monitor just below my Left MFD. However it appears on the upper right at the 0,0 position. Here is the text from my .lua file to see where i screwed up. Thanks for any help. _ = function(p) return p; end; name = _('Left Monitor 2 x mfd'); Description = 'Two monitor configuration'; Viewports = { Center = { x = 0; y = 0; width = 2560; height = 1600; viewDx = 0; viewDy = 0; aspect = 1.6; } } LEFT_MFCD = { x = 2560; y = 0; width = 840; height = 840; } RIGHT_MFCD = { x = 3640; y = 0; width = 840; height = 840; } DIG_CLOCK = { x = 2560; y = 840; width = 170; height = 170; } UIMainView = Viewports.Center -
Any way of getting a snap view to hold? I want to quickly view to the cdu and hold the view. I know you can get to the view by Num0+RCtrl then press Num2 but that is a 2 step process. I also know that it can be snapped to by Rwin+Num2, but that is only as long as the win key is held down. The moment the win key is released the view is gone. I'm looking for a way for a one step key stroke to view the cdu and hold it.

i worked on it for weeks and finally was able to fuel the whole aircraft on one attempt. A couple things that helped me. First and most important is to keep the the part of the fuel boom where the colored fuel stick exits in the upper window section as shown in the attached picture. I've put 2 reds lines that form a "V" overlayed on the picture to show you. When I approach I don't even look at the HUD, I only look at that upper window highlighted in yellow. I keep that "V" centered and at the top of that window. The Next thing I did that really helped me is having slightly more power than I need and then when the I start creeping in too close, feather just momentarily and slightly the airbrake. Just a quick open and close. No need adjusting the power at all. Using the throttle has a delay but the airbrake is immediate response. A modified a mission just for air refueling. It starts you out in the air with very little fuel, directly behind the tanker. Radio is already tuned in to the tanker. I've also attached a .trk file to view how I use the air brake. Not sure if it is the "approved method" or not but it worked for me. Lastly, make sure after every failed attempt/disconnect, you reset your fuel door, otherwise the tanker will not rehook up with you. AIR REFUEL PRACTICE.miz

I'm sure this has been asked many times but after 5 minutes of searching the posts I couldn't find my answer. How do I get a Nevada map to show up? I try to set up a quick mission and for the life of me can't see Nevada or Nellis AFB venue. What am I missing? I see so many videos of guys flying in the Nevada map. The reason why I want to fly Nevada so bad was a few months ago I was out golfing on a course in Nevada called "The Paiute" and 5 A-10s buzzed us at about 300 ft off the deck in Echelon formation, right down the 13th Fairway! Ever since then I'm obsessed with getting the Nevada Map but to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

I've been playing around with DCS for about 8 months now on and off. Still a novice but getting much better on the Nav and CDU stuff. Just learned bulls eye offset nav last week. This weeks goal is AAR. I'll give this a try an let you know. Thanks so much for the help.

I would really like to try to practice tanker refueling. Is there a mission I can do this in? How do I go about it. Is there a secret to do this. I opened up one mission that included a tanker, I radioed the tanker on the right channel but no response. Do I have to get to certain location first? I read the manual a bit but it wasn't real clear on how to initiate contact. Any practice missions out there just for this? thanks for any help in advance
