I think in the end my choice of VR headset will come down to whatever is readily available to me for a fair price. I can buy a Rift for £400 from Argos (UK Shop) just down the road from me, I've seen the Odyssey for £500 and the Lenovo for around the same price, both mail order.... so the WMR headsets are not that cheap here in the UK. A question for any UK VR users on here :- Where did you buy your VR headset from ?. Thanks.

Thanks Mesenzio for your informative reply, I can get my hands on a Rift from the local shop down the road. However the Odyssey with the in built sensors is appealing.... I'll start doing some reading :)...

Thanks for all your replies, much appreciated. Just some basic questions to get me started and then i'll start doing my own digging for answers. 1) With regards the Rift what tracking sensors are required, I will only ever use it for flight sims..... i.e sat in a chair. 2) Do the sensors work in a darkened room or do you need strong light ?. 3) How many USB plugs are required and of what type USB 2/3. 4) What video output is required and I'm guessing that I will still be able to switch back to my desktop monitor easily when I'm not using the VR headset. 5) No doubt some modules will probably be better than others but on average how easy is it to read the instruments and radar displays etc. 6) I hear a lot about ASW is this unique only to the Rift ?, if so what are the other manufacturers doing when their headsets are not being fed 90FPS ?. 7) Recently I have had to start using reading glasses as I am now mildly "long sighted". I have no bother seeing distant objects but nearby words can be slightly out of focus, is this a possibly going to cause me problems when using a VR headset. Thanks.

Have just started thinking about buying my first VR headset, I have been put off in the past due to performance issues and the low resolution. However now that I have a decent computer I'm slowly warming to going VR. I have absolutely no experience of VR but from what I have read the Samsung Odyssey seems like a possible contender. I use VAICOM PRO so it's built in microphone would be useful and I believe it has built in motion sensors, so there’s no need for external sensors. The total sum of my VR knowledge is around two hours of googling, reading a couple of Odyssey reviews and posts within this forum so any advice on which headset to buy would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Not having a good experience with this latest 2.5.4 build so far. I have cleared out all the pre 2.5.4 files and my saved game "script" files. Currently i have VIACOM installed on my C: drive and DCS installed on D: drive. Running in debug mode VIACOM recognises my DCS installation path and has auto installed all the required .lua files in the correct place. I have tried using the custom Path option in the configuration but makes no difference. Haven't tried all my modules but most are not being recognised (displaying "Default", the Hornet and A-10C are both recognised, the AV-8B is also recognised but has only one radio available. Another problem is that when i call up an airfield, even though VIACOM recognises my spoken command in the log and transmits correctly what i have just said, often its the nearest airfield to me that will answer ?. Have attached some pictures, the modules that are being recognised have the game version displayed and MAN 22 or MAN 23 displayed on the configuration window. I have also tried manually side loading the files but getting exactly the same results so i'm at a loss at the moment.

helios requires net 2 to install ??.
Gunnergolly replied to Gunnergolly's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
After spending the past three hours trying to get the installer to work, i eventually come across this guide:- https://www.groovypost.com/howto/enable-net-framework-2-windows-8/ The above cleared the .NET 2 error, but it then asked for the "DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer" to be installed:- https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=35 Installed the above and Helios installed right away. So to help people in the future, tick the box below  Easy when you know how :music_whistling:!!!. -
I'm trying to install Helios but it keeps coming up with the following message. Anybody seen this before, never had this problem in the past and how do i get around it ?. Thanks.

[Official] SimShaker for Aviators
Gunnergolly replied to f4l0's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
It's not so bad, i had nothing on my computer anyway as i had only just installed Windows for the first time on this new build. Hopefully found the issue that was preventing SimShaker from starting in the process :). -

Gunnergolly replied to f4l0's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I gave up yesterday as I tried disabling Windows Defender and also couldn't see anything happening within the Windows event log. I'm in the process of doing a new build and since I only had Windows 10 and DCS installed I just wiped the whole lot and reinstalled Windows.... a bit drastic but it's only a 10 minute job reinstalling windows. I then reinstalled Simshaker, it worked three times from the desktop and then just stopped working again ?. I found the install path below for SimShaker:- C:\Users\myname\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0\O83EO8OP.0RA\9LNZG9X7.KXZ\sims..tion_8d02fb54339bfb80_0001.0001_8cd30b4b2adffb9b I ran it from there and a big blue "Windows defender" screen popped up saying :- "Windows Defender SmartScreen prevented an unrecognised app from starting. Running this app might put your PC at risk". So I just pressed the "Run anyway" button and then a "Windows Defender fire wall" window appeared blocking the above path again. Once again I just allowed permission for the app to run and Simshaker is now working again from the desktop. Hope the above helps. -

Just installed SimShaker for Aviators from here :- https://dreamsimteam.blogspot.co.uk/p/downloads.html When i double click the SSA icon a "Launching application.... varifying application requirements" window pops up briefly for a second and then nothing else happens ???. Usually i get a window saying something like ..... "i'm here for you have a good flight" pop up. SimShaker was working perfectly with the earlier version..... an ideas ?. Thanks. -
Thanks for your reply Hollywood. I spent more time this morning with the Training Mode and also doing the Windows 10 speech recognition exercises. Anyway i've got it working nicely now by watching exactly what voice attack was seeing/doing in the log. The trick is all in the timing of speech so i just say the ATC name, wait 0.5 seconds until i see the purple dot "awaiting additional input" line and then say "Select" immediately. VAICOM then transmits my message...... happy days . Took me about four frustrating hours to figure that out but got there in the end. :pilotfly: Cheers...

I have been using VAICOM for a few weeks now and i'm liking it. I have a strange problem with the "Select" command, when i try and call up ATC in the Caucasus map they are not responding with a beep. As a test if i just say the ATC name then voice attack correctly recognises what i have spoken. However when i include the "Select" command after saying the ATC name (with a brief pause between words) then voice attack just displays gibberish. Sometimes even though it recognises what i have said i.e."Kolkhi... Select" it still does not transmit my command. I don't have this problem when using the Nevada map, i just say the airfield name and then say "Select" and can communicate with them no problem. Any ideas what i'm doing wrong ?.

Is KB working ok with the MIG-21 and Viggen ?.
-
Please can somebody confirm that Kneeboard builder is working ok with the MIG and Viggen ?, i can not resize or position the kneeboard...... it just displays across both my monitors. All the other modules are working fine. Thanks.
-
Just installed this app and seems to be working ok as the kneeboard is the correct size and positioned where i want it to be in the top left corner. However it's not working for the MIG-21 and Viggen as the kneeboard is stretched across both of my screens which are positioned on top of each other. Is there a fix for the MIG and Viggen if you have a dual screen setup ?.
-
Just bumping my own thread, The Viggen in 2.5 is nearly maxing out my 6Gb Vram and so i have had to lower my "Textures" from high down to medium with this aircraft. Cobra847 if you read this please would you take a look at the text on both the weapon selector and weapon interval mode selector dials.. Thanks Gunner.

Guys i need your help !!!. Really sorry about the long post but have tried to include plenty of detail about my problem. I play using a 36” 1080P 60Hz LED TV which works really well providing that i can use in game “Vsync” and i also export my MFCD’s on to a 1366 x 768 secondary display. My PC that has two issues, the first is that it will not output more than 64 frames per second with Vsync turned off when playing DCS world. I have lived with this issue for ages as i found that if i used GeForce experience and turned on “instant” replay my graphics card would then jump up to the maximum FPS that it was capable of rendering. I understand that anything more than 60 FPS on my system is wasted but why is it being capped in this way, i cannot find the culprit ??. The second issue that i have which is the one that is really causing me a lot of bother is that when i play DCS with Vsync turned on my FPS jumps between either 60 or exactly 30. I understand a little bit about how Vsync works that if it cant hit 60 FPS then it will then switch to 30 FPS, however DCS with Vsync turned on has never done this in the past. If it couldn’t hit 60 then it would just render whatever it could, i.e 55, 45 but it never jumped straight to a solid 30 FPS ??. Normally, before i had this issue whenever i switched Vsync off i would get heavy tearing, however i’m not getting that now, there is no screen tearing no matter what my FPS is. However when i fly fast at low level with Vsync turned off i get stutters. I have done a lot of searching and read that people have been having problems since the Windows creator update caused by Game DVR which records in the background. I have turned off Game DVR and the Game Bar but this has not done anything. I have tried using Game Bar to record DCS and my FPS instantly jumps up to a solid 60 and stays there ??. Unfortunately when Game Bar is used it also disables my in game keyboard, i’e i can’t even use the Esc key to exit the session. However i have had it were i have shutdown the Game Bar using the task manager and DCS played at a constant 60 FPS until i restarted the computer. One time the Xbox app was running and so i used the Task manager to shut it down and my FPS again stayed at 60, however it is not repeatable. I have reinstalled windows 10 and a fresh install of DCS word OB and initially my FPS with Vsync turned off would render at its maxium. However something changed and my FPS started to max out to 64 again until i enabled Geforce “instant” replay. I have tried playing Steel Beast and the FPS is also capped at 64. I have tried IL-2 Sturmovik and the game has no issues as it renders at it’s maxium frame rate and will hold a constant 60FPS when in game Vsync is turned on. I have tried different driver releases but it makes no difference. The only thing that works is playing using full screen mode on a single screen, however that is not really an option as i like to export my MFCD’s onto a second monitor..... but full screen holds a constant 60 FPS. There is something seriously messing with my video card, and/or there are problems with ingame Vsync when playing in windowed mode . I have played in windowed mode exporting to a second screen for a long long time with Vsync turned on with no problems. I have tried using an external FPS limiter (RivaTuner) with the ingame Vsync turned off, the FPS stays at a constant 60 but unfortunately i get irritating stutters. I really would like to bottom this problem out as i have been experimenting with different things/settings for ages, but find myself getting nowhere and running out of ideas. I have attached my DxDiag if it is of any help and would really appreciate any input. Thanks. Gunner... DxDiag.txt

I have assigned the KB release switch to keyboard keys and it is now releasing chaff in auto mode when i set the release switch to the INT position. So it looks like the mislabeled KB release switch does not actually function when mouse clicked. I seem to vaguely remember that was maybe mentioned in a change log a while back ??. Unfortunately i have run out of play time tonight but will try and assign the KB release switch to my HOTAS tomorrow and see what happens.
-
Playing version 1.5.7 and these are my settings:- KB mode selector in mode A (automatic). Chaff / flare selector in mode R. Streak selector in mode 0. KB release switch: INT or KONT (tried both). U22A set to B-K (tried other combinations as well). KB pod has 70 chaff and 36 flare. Testing against BUK 11 SAM site and getting the flashing MOTVERK light when pointing the pod directly at SAM site. As soon as BUK 11 goes into tracking mode and launches a missile nothing happens .... no auto release of chaff ??. Have uninstalled the Viggen, run a repair and and reinstalled and deactivated all mods just to be sure. Please can someone point out where i'm going wrong :). Thanks.
-
I'm having the same problem, i cannot get the auto countermeasure release to work. My understanding is that the auto release can be initiated by either the APP-27 RWR or the U22/U22A pods, i'm having no luck with either method :helpsmilie:?. I have read and followed the manual exactly please can somebody confirm that the auto release is functioning correctly. Thanks...

How do you turn off the undercarriage Lights ??... V1.5.6
Gunnergolly replied to Gunnergolly's topic in General Problems
Thanks for your reply, i thought it would be a bug... just going to have to live with it for now i guess... -
Really not sure if this is a bug or ignorance on my part. Playing a night mission i'm unable to turn off the white light that you can see in the attached picture. It looks like the source of the light is coming from the wheel well's and illuminates the top surface of the wing too. I have searched through the manual but can not find any switch to turn them off. When taxying each main undercarriage leg is fitted with a white spot light and i would assume that they would automatically turn off once the undercarriage was fully retracted....... If that's not the case then how do i turn them off ??. Thanks.
